Cool, I bet they need watered constantly though. Soil is kinda fine. Will have to add some store bought soil. I dont think you could fill a hole up with water, drains so fast.

to funny I went looking for the right angle for your pic. went the wrong way. but I knew I had seen that hill side before. I watered every 2-3 days. took I think 3 big totes of old potting soil, 2 bags of steer manure, 2 bags of pete moss, 2 cup of lime and 6 5gal buckets of echo compost tilled it in about 2 feet deep. About a 8x8 patch. had no issues with bugs. Chicken and pheasants another story.

Better that it drains well than the clay I have to deal with. Just ammend well and your good to go.

What do the chicken and pheasants do other than scratch the base of the plants. I would think deer would be troubles.

There where 4 pheasant hens out by the grow. At least one of them tried to land in one of my plants and broke the plant so it laid down broke all the limbs at the base of the plant. could have been the chickens but I don't think so. No dear problems the Dogs keep them away. Oh and chicken's can rip the shit out of plants. The soil around here is mostly sand.

Oh great LOL, My field is loaded with pheasants and quail, they sit on my back fence and I shot one out my kitchen window once. Never did that again, seemed to funnel the sound right back thru the window. Jesus christ about blew my ear drums out :)

Well I hope you dont mind I pick your brain now and then. So for security. Right now I have 4 golden retrievers, are dogs attracked to these too chew on? I imagine playing in them would be catatrophic. My neighbors have a ton of chickens but they never come over because of the dogs and if i plant outside I dont think the pheasants would bother them because if I put em close to the side of the house the dog kennel is right by it. I got a 6 ft privacy fence between the house and the garage so it should stop the view from the road if someone pulls in the drive. I'm just worried what if these get over 6 ft tall. I have decide to put a few of each outside just to try them.

The soil is sandy being down here on the river. I'm surround by vineyards so soil is good. Almost gets like powder.

Well good news my seeds showed up today. Shipped on the 28th from attitude, so 10 business days are not bad.

So should I drop these in a shot glass for a soak till they just root and then put them in the rock wool or do the paper towel bit?

I'm also thinking of starting a first grow thread and keep the camera fired up. What do you think. Put it in the hydro/aero section? Get out of this one then?

if your doing hydro start them in rock wool. guess I've never started a seed for hydro set up. but don't just soak them.

wow i thought everyone put em in wet towels or dropped right in water to start germination. One big thing im learning here is everyone has there own method so I guess they get good results. And never be afraid to try something new.

hay man, did u make those yourself
Yea I made the buckets better than 60 bucks each lol and they work great for a drip type. Cost me about $100 for 15 buckets. Only mistake was used wrong tubing, should have used dark tubing due to algae. But easily remedied and covered up.

Stumps I'm building a outdoor grow room/ greenhouse also. 12 by 20' was gonna have it off the ground due to ground bugs but just might leave the floor and steps out now and just plant each one its own 4'4 section. Fence the bottom and no animals will get to them. Found some plans for this, cheap and easy, my middle name lol. Only drawback is 1/2 misses the morning sun till 10 am. So might just not plant that side. Do tomatoes or something lol. Thats an idea, could drop in some corn on the fence side those bastards grow seven feet and would provide some more viewing cover. If this pays off will move operation next year into the garage, 1200 sq ft there.

Grow Shack Begins.jpg Grow Shack.jpg Grow Shack 1.jpg

Edit: corn might not be a good idea, just remembered last time they got all kinds a worms and catepillar type bugs had to spray the shit out of them with seven. Oh and before anyone asks why some of the pvc cement tubes look like their tipped to the right in the last picture, ol' dufus bumped the floor base with the tractor. Oh well just call me dufus lol. Took some shimming but we got the floor level.

Just tested the RO filter i put in. House water 368 ppm, RO water 23 ppm. Not bad for this hanford radio active well water. LOL

I was just thinking something similar. but using rail ties 4-6 up then pvc for the roof. I would love to see your plans. I'm guessing you have well water. Your's is running about 100 higher then mine. Mine goes from around 200 up to 280. Do you get that great yakima river water also? I joked about not using nutes last year. I get plenty from the river water.

No I dont use river water all from home well and have a irrigation well. River is 700ft back to the end of my property. We were considered artesian untill all the vineyards tapped into the aquafier and pressure dropped.

I found the plans here had intended to sell quail, to much state bullshit, worse than selling weed.

Also had a underground water system to keep water cool or not freeze. Might use it to put in nutes.

If height is a concern then you can allways bend them over when they get tall to controll height. It was mentioned before and it sounds like you are working on it but I do want to mention it again. The ability to cover the plants late into flower (around harvest time) is essential for an outdoor grow. protect from them from the Oct. rains.

Thats why I'm going with a greenhouse this year. last year oct rain stared early sept. was a pain in the ass. lost about 1.5 plants to mold.

So do you think they would get by if they had a tarp over them? But the sides could get wet to if it's windy I guess.

I think some of the cali guys build a frame so they can tarp over. saw pic's on a thread. I think it was fdd's.
