Seriously, I'm loving this gardening business! So much fun!
Spent hours today with a new approach... I call it "The halfday shed"!
So I cleaned out the brick shed thoroughly. Lined the window with 3 layers of garden cloth stuff... Also put a few layers on the floor for good fun.
The plants are going to go to bed in there at 20:30 every night and start work on their tan at 09:00.
It's pitch black in there so will do the job nicely.
I put them in there today at around 17:00 so they get plenty of darkness to help em into flower stage. I'm also gonna buy some Canna Terra Flores for feeding. Gonna get hold of some Blackstrap molasses to sweeten the smoke too, Tesco?

The only comment I would make is whether it might be worth running a fan in there, if it's possible for you. They like to breathe in the night and a fan will help to make sure they get plenty of fresh air. I'm planning to use a fan if I start putting mine in the garage. Just a thought ...

No plug point in there atm but could use an extension lead. There is plenty of air circulation under the door. Just a thought, how do I go about running a fan in there. I have a few 120mm computer fans lying round like this one. Can they be run off a battery and what sort? If so I could just jigsaw a small hole in the door and cover with something like this.
What you guys reckon?
I moved the plants this morning as planned and noticed dozens and dozens of dead slugs surrounding where they sit outside. The pellets are doing a brilliant job. Might remove the ones from ontop of the soil over the weekend as the others should be enough.

Hi Staro, I was thinking more of a room fan on an extension cable. Just to keep the air moving around the plants so it doesn't become stagnant during the night. Given it's outside and there is a gap under the door I wouldn't worry too much about an intake fan if it was me, but what do I know?

I haven't used it myself Staro, but I seem to recall people saying 1 or 2 tablespoons per gallon of water. Make sure you get blackstrap molasses as it's the best quality (it's thick, guey stuff LOL). You can get it in Holland and Barret health food shops.

Yep got hold of some blackstrap molasses. It smells nice, although think this could be a marmite thing, love it or hate it.
I couldnt remember how much to put in so I put one large gooey tsp in with 2.5 litres.
Am I right in saying a gallon is 4 litres?
I bought a cheap desk fan which I screwed to the wall. It points down on all the plants moving the air round the small space well. It comes on for 15mins every 45 mins on a timer, that enough?
I'm gonna keep on with the veg nutes until I get signs of sex. As soon as I see white hairs on my plants (which I hope will be on all of them!) i'll switch to flowing nutes. Both Canna. Something is growing on the nodes, it's very small. Does anyone know where I can find some really close up shots of hairs and balls? Will the signs of sex appear near the top of the plant first?
Photos over the weekend, if you're lucky!

Good stuff mate, they'll like the molasses I'm sure. Yeah, a gallon is about 4.5 litres. People seem to put in one or two tablespoons per gallon. The desk fan sounds great. That should keep them better fed with O2 (they respire in the dark) and let them grow loads in the night.
You'll get pretty good pics of pre-flowers here GROWFAQ. Yes the pre-flowers will appear higher up. Look above about the fourth node. Good luck, hope you find loads of girlie bits. Look forward to seeing some more pics

It took me like a month after the first little "things" popped out of the nodes to figure out what was what, basically if it doesn't have hairs after about a week or so its prolly a male. Check the growers bible for good early preflower pics...

Have had a good look and think it's gonna be harder than I first thought to sex these bad boys (girls!). How easy is it to photograph the nodes? I don't have a digiSLR or manual focus on my digicam. I was going to invest in a cheap magnifying glass to get up close and personal with my pups xx

Well I did my best to take some photos of nodes this morning. I'm not seeing any white hairs or balls but instead the start of new leaf growth. Because they are on a 12/12 shed routine the new leaf growth at the nodes has almost stopped, but then I'm not sure what to make of the plants....

Well still nothing from my plants on their sex. Maybe it's a mystery.
What's the worst that could happen? No sex at all and no bud?
The weather has been godawful recently and I'm seriously doubting the potential of my crop now. The sun really needs to shine this august to turn things around. They are still growing even though they have been on 12/12 for nearly 7 days. I haven't fed them with either veg nutes of bloom nutes as the soil won't dry out. Considering making some sort of cover for the soil in the next few days to give the soil a chance to dry out a bit so I can get some nutes and molasses in.
In the meantime, some pics...
