First Time to Grow need a suggestion

I just need suggestions on how I should set up my closet grow. I have never grown mind you. I took 1/2 of my closet in my bedroom;

3ft wide(can expand to 4 maaaybe 5ft)

X

20"deep

X

6ft high

I have been doin my reading and feel like I'm ready. Just wanted to hear any suggestions from experienced growers.

Lets just say its unlimited, for the most part...

how about airflow - venting etc?

About airflow.... um it's in a closet so I guess it doesn't get too mush airflow although the door and window in my room are open more than half the day. As far as stealth... the person I live with knows about it but no one else.

Still, heat builds up and needs to go somewhere. This is a big mistake people who start out make ( i have even made it).... You need somewhere for that air to go. Hows about a hole in the ceiling of the closet, get a decent blower or fan and suck it up there, is that a option? if you start using a 400-600 watt hps it will roast your plants with out good venting.

oh I forgot....

I have a 1.5-2ft storage area above the closet. That's above the whole closet which I can use.(the area above the closet is about 20"high X 20"deep X 7ft wide. just a big storage cabinet.

are you saying you are considering using the storage area? or venting it to there? Not sure where you live, but depending on the climate it can be a pain. What a buddy of mine did was build a grow box up in teh attic. Disconnected a bathroom vent and ran it in there, so its always getting warm or cool air. Then ran another vent out of the box.

like that dude said use a 400 wat metal halide for vegin and a 600 watt hps, you would do better with a vertical grow set up with those dimmensions

I just looked at your grow journal. I have an Afghan seedling that I sprouted (one out of the 8 I original had.) in organic miracle grow potting mix. It is about 4" tall. I have it under 2 cfls 23 watt each(I thought they were 100 watt but I guess they are 100 watt incandescent equivalent). I saw a cheap way to rewire a 150 watt hps security light. If I used 3 of those set perpendicular to my width and had a fan blowing right above the canopy, between the lights and plants. I have a computer fan rated at 70cfm.

the 150 i have in there is a rewired econolight $20 bucks including the bulb. I plan on getting one more. Yeah those are only 23 watt, equiv to a 100 watt. I would say you would need a bigger fan to vent 3 150's. all depending on the space you grow in of course.

yeah you will need a better fan to vent. If you can go through the ceiling vent it into the attic, some osc. fans would work great.
I used bushmaster, stop's vertical growth. my girls are around 10" and stopped vertical growth. I read one grow log, afghan kush under a 400 watt hps his got to be 41 inches tall.

I wouldnt keep the remote ballasts in the closet too. They get warm. The 150's are easy to wire up. I used the casing it came in to make the ballast housing.
I think if you can tackle the air flow situation 150 x 3 - will be a sweeet set up man!

with that kinda of lighting, they can get big. But if they are in small containers, they will only get as big as the root space they have. Less root space shorter/less plant. I used bushmaster, mine are @ 10 inches going into 3 weeks into flower, they have stopped vertical growth. They are as round as the 2 gallon buckets they are in though, very bushy. If you are going to do a sog like that, your best bet is clones. Grow a mom plant or 2 clone the hell out of it. Once the clones root, flower them. That way the roots have more room to grow. If you veg them in small containers then flower them you might run into some issues, i believe

Do you know how to clone plants ? my suggestion would be. Keep a plant growing, cut all the clones off of it, wait 2 weeks for them to root, once they do, flower them in the 32 ounce cups. I have never tried growing from seed in that small of a container, I am sure it can be done though.

I plan on taking clones from my Afghan when I find out she's a girl and trying to flower them in the cups. I want to use a hempy bucket method for the cups. What is your medium right now? What have you tried b4?
