well if it is from an engagement ring, at least it owuldnt be too expensive to replace. i jusst looked on that site that grobo posted and you could get another for $400 or less. plus, if you have a piece of jewlery that shoddy that the stone is falling out, you're probably an idiot.

I pretty much look at the floor all the time. I find stuff all the time, most of the time worthless.

he is right...take it to any jewelery shop and have it graded...might cost you 20 bucks but hey if you have a rare color stone it is worth way more than just a regular diamond.

i would laugh my dick off if you went to a jeweler, paid $20 for them to tell you its a CZ. and I mean laugh, hard. you know, one of those belly laughs that hurt your ribs... that's how hard I would be laughing. I might even shit my pants a little.

it depends where you buy it. i bet all the diamonds on bluenile are GIA certified. that's nice and all but I don't think it's worth the extra money to have a stone that is GIA cert. I prefer antiques and usually they won't be gia cert because they were around before GIA and in order to cert, they would have to remove the stone from the setting which isn't something you want to do with an old piece. I don't think it's worth an extra 1k or 1.5k to get that certification. I guess it depens if you intend on selling it in the future though, GIA certified probably has a better resale value but again, if someone is buying it to wear, they won't care if it's EGL, some don't even care if it's certified so long as you purchase from a good jewler.

the point of my post was that even if his stone were certified, he doesn't have the cert to prove it so it wouldn't sell for the same price as a certified diamond unless he paid to have it certified. I am curious about the value!

If it is GIA certified, it may have a number etched into the side of the diamond, which would tell you who purchased it and where it came from. 1/2 carats of good cut, color, and clarity will bring upwards of 350 to 600 dollars. I just purchased one from Diamonds.com for my wife, .65 carat for 730 dollars.

Interesting story, wife and I were in the bar, crazy busy, my wife tells me she lost one of her diamonds. Our friend starts looking, bumping into people, she proceeds to reach down in the carpet and pick up the diamond. This was only like a .4 carat diamond. I quess her beer goggles work that night.

I have to work all week until tuesday and there is no local shop to have it checked out. I have to drive 45 minutes to get it checked out.
