for my idea i have got a box with a hole in the top for my light bulb to go thru, the inside of the box is covered in tinfoil so the light will reflect off of it or something, and i have 2 ice cream pales of soil that i will put the seeds in. i will put the box over the ice cream pales and stick the light into the hole. will this setup work? does the plant smell like it does when the weed is dried out?? i am growing this under my bed so i need to know if it smells!!

You should be using CFL bulbs.
You can get 150watt cfl bulbs at most stores that sell light bulbs for about 10 dollars..
Make sure your buckets have drain holes for the water to get out.
Your plants will begin to smell.. A LOT! when you begin to flower (switch light cycle to 12/12)

It's bad to let your ROOTS stay in standing water. If the bottom of your pots don't have roots in them, then you're OK.
You can leave roots in water if it is aerated, e.g. churning about.

Yes, you can top the plant to keep it shorter. To keep one that small, you would have to top at the 5th, 7th, and 9th nodes, as well as have a shortened vegatative time. Topping, or pinching, is just removing the top of the plant. It can be several inches, or just the very tip. And you don't need any salve, the plant will heal itself.
Cutting at an angle is used for rooting the cutting, providing more surface area for roots to form.
