Getting started.

Hey guys! I have researched quite a bit to avoid asking retarded "already asked" questions.

So first I have realized from reading hundreds of posts that without me giving you Exact measurments its hard for you to help me.

I am building a DWC one bucket system. Its really easy.

I am also building in my room a little grow room out of 2x4's and white plastic. The dementions are going to be 4 feet long 6 feet hi and 3 feet wide.

I only plan on growing ONE big ass plant (ChemDawg D possibly, I havent really decided on strain yet.)

I want to use a 400 watt HPS with a digital ballast. I understand I am going to obveously have some heat issues. So at my local HYDRO mart the guy today was trying to convince me to buy all the most expensive stuff and obveously he is a sales person so I hesitated and figured I would ask you guys before I bought anything as far as a light goes and inline fans and stuff.

With my grow space I am wondering how I could handle the heat issues that will arrise for the most affordable way.

I plan on getting these nutes;
advanced nutrients(micro, grow, bloom, f1, carboload, big bud).

I will post more... pics (when i get a nice paycheck to buy everything) and when I have more arrising questions.

Is a 400w HPS going to bring out some nice buds if I am only flowering one plant?

Thanks Highly Appreciated!
:peace:

Yeah, a 400 will grow some nice buds, even on one plant. But you are using it to about 1/8 of its potential. How have you got ventilation figured?

Well I am still thinking about just going all out. getting an inline fan and ducting but im a little confused on how it all works. :-( i know plants need constant new air comming in to the room and also hot air exiting and a carbon filter for smell but it just sucks since im only starting one plant that I have to go out and buy all of that.

Do you think a 400 watt hps will be overkill? will it will be a waste ? I mean I never know. I might want 8 plants in the future but if its complete overkill I might as well get a smaller light..and save some money right?

hmm... I just think for my small space (and only wanting to grow one plant) it seems like a lot of money.

I have seen people use t5's for flowering and i mean they got an OZ out of it but if I am only growing one plant I want to treat it right so it treats me right later... :-)

No, not overkill at all. At 12/12 for a straight five years, it never cost more than $25 a month in electricity by my own admittedly shaky calculations. And it's big enough that once your good at growing you can put as many plants as neede to feed your ever developing habit and new list of pot friends and hangers on.
When I ran a perpetual harvest during those five years, at my best I averaged 3.5 ounces of weed every 19 days or so. That's quite enough for you and everyone you know, or to make a small income, if you go that way.

You're good. You'll need an enclosed reflector is all. So.. here's the deal.. You can use passive intake by making a hole or two near the bottom of your rig. After that, drop a 6" carbon filter tube near the floor (yes, your carbon filter will work inside your cabinet) with an inline fan blowing through shielded 6" flexible ducting to your enclosed reflector. On the other side of the reflector (or cool-tube, but that's more $$) another inline fan to more flexible ducting and out. That way, you enclose your heat, vent it AND take care of scent with one duct and no true intake hole. This method will cost you maybe $800-1000 with bulb and switchable electronic ballast.

Another option is MAJOR CFL, which is way cheaper. When I say MAJOR, I mean go get 2-3 200 W CFL's and reflectors for them and then just vent with a carbon filter and passive intake, as I suggested. This method will be under $500.

After that, skip this one plant idea. With all that space, you should get to Attitude seed bank's website and order some feminised Warlock. Plant 4 and you will be extremely happy. It's an indica that colas like a massive sativa and it has the highest supposed THC count ever @ 29%. If nothing else, look the strain up. It's a legitimate legend and getting harder and harder to find.
