Grow op etiquette for the spouses/others.

Had to have a conversation recently with the s/o. Was a very easy conversation albeit, but an important one. What are some rules for your grow that involve spouses, children, who ever? Obviously I talked about light control, and though not a problem now could be if my timing was different.

My question
What are some points to make while having this discussion. Pest control issues, herbicide fungicide issues tracked in. What else?

Lights on and off times obviously, tell them to change clothes before entering ! What more is there ? Family secret can keep a family tight better than anything else. All in it together, no matter what ! If it ain't legal where you are the obvious things arise, whose is it ? Yours, the kids n wife knew nothing as they are banned from your porn area ! Last bits your choice !

My rules are simple.

All of my grow is situated behind a fake wall which leads to a walk in closet (my grow area)

I have a secret door behind a book case that is not visible without moving the book case.

rule 1. No smell in the house.
rule 2. No going into secret room until kids are asleep.
rule 3. No harvesting until rule 2.
rule 4. No telling friends etc

You sound like Batman with a hidden bat cave.

My tent is in the corner of the garage hidden behind a shelf so you can't see it from outside when the garage door is open. I also have a 6 ft tall bakery rack on wheels that I have to roll out to get to it. When company comes over they never go in the garage. I've only showed a couple very close friends.

It was hard graft to do it all lol.

all the work was done before the kids started popping out lol.

so they know no different.

the walk In closet used to be in the spare bedroom which later became the kids bedroom lol.

so I removed the door and cut a new one in our bedroom (the stairs separates both bedrooms) had to add an I beam to support the brickwork that was removed to make the new door.

then blocked up the old door and plastered the bedroom side.

Then built the stud wall in our bedroom to house my storage area and walk way to the closet.

Is there a specific book you pull out to make it open up like in the movies?

I fucking wish lol.

nah I just move the entire book case using brute force lol.

the door isn’t really hidden it’s just a small 4ftx2.5ft DIY door that doesn’t have handles or anything.

So there is a small gap all the way around the door but it’s wallpapered and painted the same as the room. So it blends rather than hides lol.

I kept the closet grow hidden from offspring for 9 years and 9months. Then the pandemic hit, my HPS died, a month later my veg florescent ballast caught on fire. When the new LED's arrived I needed to rebuild the flower side of the closet to account for the sagging floor and the new light being wider than my HPS. Oh and the nutes I was using started having availability issues so I had to change my nute lines and my local hydro shop cut down to 1 day a week for about 3 months.

With box after box of lights, bottles, and bags of grow stuff arriving by mail and the required construction to the closet to fit the new light, there was no hiding it.

So I spent 2020 teaching her how to grow and this year she has a couple tomato plants in the backyard with the most f'n expensive soil and time release nutes a tomato has ever grown in.

Now the family goals are to move out of the war zone and to a free state.

Right now the rules are 1) keep the mouth shut and 2) dad's grow belongs to dad, stay out.

If she harvests good tomatoes and learns the liquid nute schedule, I might hopefully have a backup feeder to take care of the plants if I have a back seizure.

I prefer to be super low key. So much so i dont even grow indoors, outdoor only. Nobody, not my best friend or brother knows i do this. If nobody knows, NOBODY knows. its impossible for pissed off friend or spouse to turn ya in if they dont know. Starting and curing plants gets a bit tricky but good planning pays off...
