I am a positive person, and I believe in the power of the people. Old, negative people that have been defeated by life like you and your partner are the biggest problem in our country. Come on man,"75% of RESPONDENTS said" you know what that means that 75% of the pro mj people that bothered to respond said yadayadayada.
You don't understand Tex politics and the part the medical industry in Houston plays in it.Texas politics is run out of Houston by the oil industry and the medical and pharmacutical industries and none of them want mj legal in any way,it hurts all of them financialy.My brother in law worked for Sen.Charlie Wilson for years so i have a pretty good understanding of whats happening in Tex politics.
When someone brings up norml and some kind of poll numbers i lmao. A Texas judge would laugh norml and their pro mj attornys right out of the court room.Those numbers you post mean nothing.
The poll numbers that it would be defeted by 80% of the vote came from a 2hr news special about med mj i watched on a houston news station.
They may be a little high but if it came to a vote today it would be pretty dam close to 80% against.

You took my comment in a completely different direction and missed by a long shot to say the least. By no means was I bashing the cause, only your immediate angry response to his first comment which turned into this 4 page defense mechanism against all who post.

Charlie Wilson was around during the cold war and that poll had nothing to do with Norml, they just quote it on their site. There is also another poll that was conducted this past year (2011) that said 35% wanted legalization for recreational purposes.

35% of who?Poll conducted by who?I wish what you say was true but it's not.I moved back to Tex from Cali. LA area because my father was dying of cancer, he passed away in sept. now i'm taking care of my mother.When she passes(God forbid)my ass is outa here!!!I'm going back to Cali. or Colorado,i have family in both places.
When i came back to Tex. i got busted for 4lbs.I had 1 of the better lawyers in the state and it cost me $40,000.00 with money being slipped under the table to keep out of the joint.I got 5yrs super strict probation and they were'nt playing,1 little fuck up and i would've gone straight to the joint for 5yrs.My friend is still in there!!!
I'm not on prob. now but i have a felony possesion of mj on my record.If i get popped with just 1 gram i go staight to the joint i won't be able to buy my way out.The judge made sure i knew this!
Stay out of the Tex court system it's fucking living hell.

If I may, I'd like re-open this thread...

I am really bored today... Day off of work, honey-do list not on the docket, I decided to Google MMJ news in Texas and this was/is the most recent thread. I no longer smoke due to random drug testing at work. My temperament and personality have taken a turn for the wicked since I quit smoking in March 2010. So much so that I've begun a search for a new job to provide for my wife and children that will allow me to relax with a little weed now and then.

I WANT MMJ IN TEXAS!

Based on what I've read in this ONE thread, which caused me to join this site, I take Johnnyorganic's knowledge as gospel. HB1491 is surely dead.

I've considered the e-mail your local State House Representative and Senator thing (Leo Berman and Kevin Eltife respectively), but feel that I'm wasting my time without really having something meaningful to say. What persuasive tactic can I/we use? Is writing them a waste of time? Visiting them in person? Do they think we are all miserable stoners wasting their time?

What can we do that is really meaningful to this cause? Who are the activists and where are they? Can we be activists and still wear our Shield of Anonymity to protect us from those who would seek to excommunicate us in this bible belt state? I'm in an industry of professionals (allegedly) and would fear for my job if discovered as even supporting such a cause. A cause I believe in, but not enough to sacrifice the well-being of my family for...

Uh... Thoughts?

Don't take anything I write as Gospel unless you verify it yourself. If you followed the links provided and determined the veracity of my statements, excellent.

Berman is a retired Army Colonel and a decorated Vietnam Vet. He flew helicopters. As one might suspect, he is a serious man. But he is also a reasonable man. And he almost lost his wife a while back to a serious illness, so the MMJ issue might resonate with him. He's also a Teabagger, so the Fredoom and Liberty pitch might work on him.

Eltife has a reputation as a Senator who works as hard as he parties. And he has a reputation as a man who likes to have a good time. So the recreational aspect might appeal to him.
