theres a temperature that chemical reaction happen best at, and it happens to be around 70-80f. after that, any hotter, the reaction breaks down. any cooler, the reaction slows down.

Stick it in, the soil temp and air temp can be way different.
Plus you can check the temp of your pot roast. Seriously you need a soil thermometer. Just another 20 dollar gadget.

Agree, then I use a separate thermometer located where plants are to dial-in...I used to crack dome cover but now have a vented one.

try a heating pad on low under the sink. Works every time. A heating "mat" is just a fancy name for a heating pad you can get for 10 bucks..or you can buy a mat that obviously gets way too hot for 25. Hmmm. When it's easy, let it be easy.

lol i tried germing a seed and i put it on a wetpaper towel in a baggie and i put the baggin on top of my 150watt reflector felt nice at the time......but now im pretty sure i cooked it. it poped out but hasnt grown the tap root any larger for a day now

I wanted to add that this is a great link.
I thought to suggest that the OP buy a Johnson Controls A419. We use these
in mycology to use temps to control all sorts of different action.
....but they cost easily twice as much.

P.S. Note though that one commenter on that site said that using that
controller took some tweaking.
