Hey there folks. I have a fungus gnat infestation and have never seen them before. Been having the problem for about 3 days now, there are thousands in my 4x4 tent. I have used neem oil spray on the base and the top soil, covered the soil with 2" of perlite, sevin dust on the perlite, and have have sticky traps on top of the perlite and hung next to my light. I have killed 90% of them but no matter how many I murder there seems to be some still roaming about. Yesterday I thought I'd gotten them as they lay dead all over the top of the perlite and in my traps but today there are still quite a bit flying around. I'm just getting them to flower and don't want little bugs in my buds YO. Going to get some nematodes tomorrow. Is there anything else I can do to get this problem erradicated?

i just used my vacuum cleaner on half strength and sucked away all my white flies. have you placed sand on top of your dirt? about a half inch of sand will help. good luck :eyesmoke:

Well here ya go friend, There is a organic product A little pricy but reallllllllly good stuff. NOt an insecticed not toxic to humans. Try az-max. use as a drench in the soil. The larve wont feed on your roots they starve to death before turning into flys. This leaves little nitrogen bursts in your soil for your plant to feed on. The fungus ( algea) that the flys feed on becomes inedable to the fly so it starves as well. no new eggs. It deforms their wings and they don't fly to naboring plants. They hang out till they die. This stuff can be used as a drench, a foliar, or sprayed on the surface soil as a preventative. Leave your extra mixed Az-max in a bucket mixed with vinigar It will have hundreds of dead flys in it when you return. Also check the thread on cali-clean made in your kitchen with 5 small habeneros, This stuff is the absolute VERY best for spider mites. And it kills fungus nat flys instantly on contact . It HEALS bug chewed plants like liquid bandaid. and can be used right up to day of harvest doesnt screw your bud up at all, or flavor it, if you keep it off the buds itself.
Also see above about less water and drying it out fungus nats will not live, breed or perpetuate in a inapropriet enviroment. Make it Inapropriete, so they don't re- manifest themselfs. They eat algea, Where there is moisture and algea, like what grows on your delta cubes durring cloning fungus nats will gather, keep in mind these fly in. But mostly you bring them in, bagged soil has fungus nats and their larve and eggs properly nuke your soil and this will eliminate this. I drench a tub o soil every time i buy a bag and let it dry before using it. ONce again Az-max for the drench.

Yeah I'll check out Az-Max sounds legit. I ordered some beneficial nematodes yesterday as well. I don't over-water as this isn't my first grow, just my first expanded grow. I bought some new pots from home depot that have drainage and they are only in the those pots. My sealed bottom pots have none of the bugs, which is strange as they are all in the same tent. I'm getting all sealed pots next time and using a higher quality soil if not coco. If you've never grown in sealed pots before I suggest you try it as I have really stable and healthy plants every time with them. Thanks for the info.

If you have vinegar and dish soap mix that together and leave it around your pots the lil suckers will get attracted into the solution and die! as for the larvae you can az-max or go to home depot and buy artificial nematodes.. works amazing

The soil I've started to use exclusively will have a few nat's with it. I live next to an Oregon coastal lake, The nats this year is epic.
So I use the drench in the soil when I get it. I dump it into a plastic tub drench and forget about it. when it drys back out I use it.
This soil I like comes in 2 cu bags. Gardner and Bloome is the brand see pics with composted material. db.jpgdb1.jpg This soil in my opinion is totally suitable for MJ. This stuff is soooooooo much better than that over priced fox farms.
You wouldn't talk me into using anything else EVER. And get this $6.00 a bag!

What makes this better then ffof? Does that bark give you slivers?
Being cheap with 2cu ft is a great thing an if its solid i wanna try it but I don't really look to cut costs at my dirt since its so important
