ok so i now have three plants that have begun to bud. my problem i am now facing are these damn animals. they have started biting my branches off but leaving them on the ground. i have several branches that just stick out of the main stalk with no vegetation on them.
So im asking if it is a good idea to cut the bare branches down to the stalk to prevent the plant from wasting energy on the useless branches.
when i get home i will post pictures so u can see the damage and get an idea of what im talking about

yes you can rip off those branches. Many people rip off bottom branches and such to promote airflow as well. Nothing bad will happen. + rep!

Get some netting from your hardware store and block them off. Yes people usually will cut off the lower portions of the plant to focus the main growth on the chutes and cola, look at some journals and you will see pretty easily what they are doing.

Ive heard of guys placing mouse traps around them to keep lil animals at bay also. If you need to go that far lol

If they were my plants, I'd be sitting out there with a blunt and my pellet gun. You can cut the branches down to the stalk but the animals will prolly just go up to the next set of branches. You can put a fence/screen around your plants as that might be enough to keep rabbits n shit away

Thats a bad ass idea with the mouse traps lmao, you'd have to atleast have 50 around to take down a ground hog

There was a similar post :weed:

Someone recommended 2 foot lengths of garden hose.

They look like snakes and the smaller animals won't go near them.

I use chicken wire :joint::peace:

Actually the fencing is a good idea but it makes it stand out more and look suspicious. A lot of outdoor growers get bags of hair from a local barber and spread it around the plant and human urine is good too, just piss all around the area.

if you can afford fencing, put some old t shirts around the grow and spray them with a perfume heavily every time your there. Some animals wont go near the smell of a human.

Get some Big buck urine and put that around it.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldnt buck piss attract other deer which is what he DOESN'T want? Same with the animal hair.....as far as I know they hate the smell of HUMANS so like I said just scatter some human hair and take a piss all around your plant and that should keep most pests at bay. The perfume/cologne idea wasn't bad either. I've even heard of people using deodorant to rub on near by trees. Or you could take it to the extreme and hook up a fence to a car battery lol. But don't piss on that....

I think "prune" is a more appropriate word here... LOL... I wouldn't rip anything off my plants. :)

thanks everyone!! too bad i didnt get to read any of these before i visited them today:-|
while i was there i tried to piss as much as i could around the pots. also i got some of my hair and put it around the plants. i literally stuck the hairs to the branches, we'll see if these deer have the cajones to strike again..i'll take all your advise and use some innovation to fend off these fucks:fire:

im gonna get more hair, and piss. then im gonna pick up some irish spring soap cause i hear that works too and its cheap.
garden hose is cool but its not as cool as the blunts and pellet guns. i definitely need to seek revenge on the cottontails for eating two of my plants back in june....now ill be eating them haha. karmas a bitch aint it

i gotta say though, i enjoyed getting a sample off my plant. suprisingly it got me baked right now and its only been budding for about a month, if that.
sorry for the long post..time for me to gobongsmilie

Please, to those of you who grow outdoors and might be having problems with deer, or even in the case of smaller mammals: don't go the route of lethal traps or poisons. I urge my fellow cannabis growers to be somewhat considerate and respectful of the environment they grow in. This includes being considerate of the animals that call the place home; from deer to mice, they were there first.

Not only are these methods of control inhumane and ethically questionable; they just aren't very effective. Especially if you're putting out mouse traps and rodent poisons when your problem is actually deer. In which case, there are plenty of options such as those already recommended: urine or human waste-based repellents, camouflaged fencing, sound/light emitting devices. Also, the deer and other animals go after the freshest, most tender and lush vegetation in the vicinity. Maybe that ends up being your cannabis plants, but it doesn't have to be. You could easily plant other things a bit further away, but in proximity to your pot plants. For example: carrots, lettuce, green beans, sunflower, clover, tulips, geraniums, etc.
You could also bring some oat/grain feed and/or ordinary wild bird seed mix for the rodents and lagomorphs to lessen the odds of them eating your plants.

robdogg, I would be more worried about the negative karma you would be inflicting upon yourself by attempting to seek 'revenge' on some defenseless animal that most likely had nothing to do with your plant being eaten.

Mother nature provides this wondrous, magnificent plant- which we selfishly plot to grow for our own personal gratification and enrichment. It can undoubtedly attract a slew of critters besides just people, and for good reason. Unfortunately it will potentially be looked upon by these critters as a delicious source of food, which they happen to depend on to survive. After all, we have for the most part seized their environment from them; confining these animals to smaller territories in which to search for edible vegetation. On top of this, we have upset the balance of nature and negatively affected wildlife in various other ways. I think the least we can do is truly embrace our plants and the nature which provides for them by showing respect and appreciation for it and all of the little, living things that make it whole.

The attitude some of you are expressing towards those creatures you presume to be insignificant is utterly disgraceful.

You are going to get a lot of ribbing for posting that, but I wanted to be one of the ones who commend you for taking that stance. Some will say tree hugger, but true hunters and wild life lovers will appreciate your words. It was very well written.

nullis i respect your view on this sorta situation, however what i am doing is in no way inhumane or cruel. I dont want to argue over this topic becuase i find it extremely unlikely that either of us will change eachother's views.
when i said i would get revenge on the rabbits, I stated that i would that i would actaully eat the rabbits. Ive eaten rabbits around here before and i know they are pretty tasty.i dont kill anything to have it go to waste. and i dont plan on killing any of the deer. Im using natural methods to get my problems away. i dont like feeding them other foods because it only worsens the problem down the road and it causes new problems in the eco system. trust me, ive seen this happen before.if anyone is against killing animals yourself for food, i suggest you watch food inc. it will show you where/how our country gets its meat.
