Hemp Seeds

High producing THC cannabis seed is simple and easy to purchase. However does anyone have a lead on where I can purchase non-sterile hemp seeds for growing?

I swear I can't walk 200 feet along any fencerow around here without finding some ditchweed.

Check out rural roadways/ train tracks in Iowa, Nebraska, Southern Minnesota and Illinois.

Its all over the place.

Etsy.com search viable hemp seeds. One seller, great communication and I got an extra seed because one was smallish. Both sprouted, no fake. Good luck.

Five year old thread.

Not sure why anyone who isn't growing commercial hemp would want these, but by US Federal law all viable hemp ceeds are illegal and considered "mari-juana". So without the appropriate permit/licensure you can't really buy viable hemp ceed legally anywhere in the USA. All hemp seeds you buy as feed are "supposed" to be sterile.

Most of the feedstuff is milled (crushed) or for people-food de-hulled so contrary to what's been written above, its pretty unlikely to be viable. I can't imagine that you can just buy a 50lb bag of untreated viable ceed over the counter anywhere in the USA, but that said, I don't doubt that a few individual beans from the "sterile" feedstock might germinate anyway.

I've heard (but never seen nor verified) that some kinds of commercial birdseed contain viable hemp se-ed, so that might be another option.

If you're willing to import it, there are probably a number of sources that would be happy to sell it to you. For example:
http://www.northcountryseeds.com/products/viable-hemp-seed

Obviously, if you live in the midwest or anywhere where there is feral cannabis (ie "ditchweed") you can find ceeds if you look for them.

And I'd imagine there are multiple places where you can get some within the USA (eg Etsy, Ebay, etc). Lets face it, if people are selling drug cannabis ceed, you must be able to locate non-drug cannabis ceed somewhere!

Really in the US?

New York

Dont believe me go to a feed store and talk to the counterperson about it , I have had several conversations about it with them. It is a very common issue when feeding whole seed . The concensis seems to be as long as your not cultavating it on purposs it's not a issue

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but this is becoming more relevant here in CO. Has anyone ordered or germinated seeds from the hippiegeneralstore? One of the very FEW places willing to ship viable seeds to CO.
We have our license and plot, but genetics are scarce..

Would it be a huge loss to place a small order to find out for yourself?
Considering low availability it may be worth a try.

Breed them yourself after you acquire the genetics!

Actually yes..making a blind purchase for 80 plus acres would be hasty. If only there were a forum where I could ask a specific question..
I can afford to buy the seeds and breeding my own strains is my job...that was not the question here.
This is not for a side project, this is for a publicly traded company so I was looking for some expertise..but thank you none the less. Viable Hemp seeds are a gamble right now on what you actually find IF you can find them and hopefully you speak French, Italian, or German for the real deal..it's easier to find Jerry garcias ashes. I have indigenous cuts available, so not all is lost.

I actually know an old lady I can get viable hemp seeds from, but she wouldn't have enough for what you need.
Considering I've grown a plot of hemp before, I think I have a bit of expertise.

After you grow one harvest you will have more experience than me though...
I only had a small 10 acre plot, but it was for a friends family who already had plans for it's use + didn't need massive amounts.

How many pounds of seed are you trying to get?

Hoping to get at least 100. Want to buy in bulk from multiple sources for r&d purposes. At this point, willing to take cuttings or even tissue samples just to get something rolling..not really trying to be the next Kentucky seed story either. Right now it is a don't ask don't tell situation here in CO regarding seed origins.
