Welcome All to:

Honkeycorn`s Party Cup Grow Off Contest Entry!

I decided to join the current party cup grow off contest: https://www.rollitup.org/general-marijuana-growing/427922-party-cup-grow-off-new-1.html

I have chosen 4 AK-47`s in week 3 planted into some custom DIY Air-Pruning party cups :) Which I have now affixed "RIU" Stickers on as per rules.

Two in the "Standard Grow" catagory and Two will be topped and entered in to the "Weed as art" catagory.

Soil is a hand mix 3 bags basic soil to 1 bag perlite. Optimum Hydroponics base line with Supermax B1, cal-max, bud ignitor, big bud, over drive, floral nector and some superthrive.

Here are some pics from week one and two:

Here are pics from this morning:

I will be using this nute schedule:

Nute pic.jpg

So far they have been under a single CFL in a small area of the Growdrobe:

DSCF1629.jpg

After planting in the new and improved party cups today they are under 4 of those CFL`s in a larger side of the Growdrobe:

DSCF1626.jpg

Im thinking of finishing them under a 250 HPS, but am not sure yet... Any suggestions?

This is my the first time using a party cup for longer than a month, so any ideas or pointers for growing out a full cycle in these cups would be appreciated!

Peace,
Honkeycorn

Thanks man! Lots of work I tell ya... but worth it in the long run!

Ya, its only one layer of pet tough door screen, its expensive compared to the landscape fabric I used b4, but the screen give`s better results all round(drainang, airpruning) Plus the fabric ones retain to much water and can go moldy or mildewy.

Regards!

Ya dude, i've had all my small ladies in party cups at one point and ya man it seems as soon as the roots start to take hold in those u gotta water once a day at least. :) :)

Man dude!!! u should have seen my ladies this morning HOLY SHIT!! they were supposed to to get watered yesterday but when I checked them the pots still seemed heavy on all of em so I didn't. Go and check when the light came on at 5pm today....... FUCKERS ARE JUST HANGING!!!!! I WAS LIKE WTF!!!!!! I AM SUCH A DUMBASS!!! LOL, :) watered em quick real good and they got better almost right away :) :) now they looking fine, WHEW!!! :)

My advice for party cup would be to use air purning pot an water every day.
But you got those figured out. lol

Ive ran plants 30+ days in a 10 oz party cup, with no root circling they work good.
Could definalty give you an advantage in party cup grow...
It you stack the Air purning cups in another party cup they wont dry out so fast an should stil prune? (seen Hobbes do it with 5gal buckets)
I put a bit of screen on the top of the soil also to slow evaportation.

Watering em is messy, so bottom feed mine by submerging half the cup in water to speed things up an get an possible dry spots.

How long you going to veg them?
Ive always thought 24/7 for the first 3-4 weeks would be better than 12/12 from seed.
You'd be giving em alot more light for the first month witch grows better leafs an roots with less stretch.
An they wont show sex tell around then anyway.

When I grew lil plants in folgers cans for SOG the ones I topped an fimmed yielded less than the natural plant. (3 weeks veg)
But If you veg em longer topping an fiming can increase yeild (6 weeks veg)
So Id try an let the art "trained" plants veg awhile longer then the natural ones.

What kind of art/ training you going to try with em?

PS Good looking Cab.

Oh man... thats too funny... I did the same thing on saturday...

Friday they had dried out really really bad, all the leaves were drooped flat, so I gave them a watering and checked them two hrs later. In 2 hrs they had sucked all the moisture from the soil and were standing straight up hapily! :) So I watered them a second time that day to re-moisturize the soil.

Then I checked them Saturday in the morning B4 I left for the day and they were moist to the top from the 2-watering day previous. I got home 8 hrs later and they were dry as fuk agian!

Im going to make some kinda container that these cups sit in that provides an inch of water to the bottom of the cups so that they can absorb water if they need it. Kinda a preventitive measure. LoL

Hey Scar, been a while, good to see another familiar face :) Thanks for the info!

I will be trying the double cup or some kinda container to reduse the evaporation. I have also already put upsaide down cd`s on top of the cups to help with that too.. plus it reflects :-P

I also submerge the cup for watering/feedings. Much Easier.

Havnt really decided on veg time or style yet... So far they have been on 18/6 for 4 wks and two will be topped @ the end of the 5th wk. Then given a wk to recover and will be going to 12/12 @ the beginning of wk 1 of flower (7 wks since seed).

I may go longer on the veg for the topped ones... not sure yet. The topped ones will be done Uncle Ben style (4 main colas) or as bet as I can Immitate, LoL. Here`s a white widdow I topped a month back:

Hmm.... good call actually :) I was gonna just wait on thinking about watering for another day, BUT i think i'll be checking on them tonight actually. Ya man, when I did water them they were so dry that almost ALL the water i poured in instantly found some kind of hole straght down to the bottom. So I had to do little by little then got the idea to let the bottom trays sit with a good amount of water, I look at them like 10 mins later, they sucked up ALL that water :)
what did I learn? water/feeding from the bottom DOES work :) lol

Most definetly it does work. When they get that dry its best to soak the cup in another cup to give the soil a chance to absorb it better.

Well friends and whomever is following my thread, I have some sad news today...

It appears that I may have treated my girls a lil` too roughly in their first two weeks

They have kinda stunted their growth, started yellowing up from the bottom and the leaves have not been standing up since they were moved to their air cups. I believe I had let them dry out too much for a couple times in a row, then in an effort to keep them hydrated they now seem overwatered...

DSCF1681.jpgDSCF1680.jpgDSCF1654.jpgDSCF1672.jpgDSCF1659.jpgDSCF1665.jpgDSCF1657.jpgDSCF1676.jpgDSCF1652.jpgDSCF1666.jpgDSCF1660.jpg

Not too worried, sure they will bounce back.

But just in case I have prepared a back-up plan!

Another bakers dozen of AK-47`s:

DSCF1700.jpgDSCF1699.jpgDSCF1695.jpgDSCF1693.jpgDSCF1701.jpgDSCF1696.jpg

These will be going in different cups this time... 15.5 oz 4" pots :)

I will get some pics up over the next few days once transplanted.

Sucks about the overwatering and such, but other then that, i'm loving the Party Air Cups. And party cup grows are always interesting. You get to see how much people get with such a small amount of room for roots. I've got a clone vegging in a party cup right now, she's reached the bottom and working her way back up. Got to get her transplanted soon!!
