horrible experience

I hate to say it, but it doesn't really matter if OP posts his emails or not. All of us that have been here at RIU for a while have read and remember the times where Eraserhead showed his ass. He has an attitude problem, and he can't accept responsibility for when he screws up. This is just another example of that.

Agreed.

And I could careless about brand loyalty. Yes I have A51 lights but that's just because i felt I could trust the quality. Only reason i went with the RW over the onyx for my second light was because DB was having heat issues and lights shutting down at the time that was since resolved for him. I didn't want to deal with that.

Like mentioned earlier every story has two sides. Well to me it's 3 sides; Your side, their side, and the truth. Because out own perceptions form biased opinions. I'm guilty of that as well. What Browncherrypie is saying is not that he doesn't believe you, I'm sure he could care less but since it's being aired out in the public eye why not show the story? Shows what you said and what he said and how it actually went down. Nothing against you just we are all human and any one of us can be irrational or exaggerated or blind to certain things at times. I know I have and I know I will be again. LOL Not saying that's the case here, but for all we know... well we don't know anything other than what you've said here. I know if I were done wrong or felt I had I would have no problem being "that guy" and show the world what a dick someone can be. Way I see it, you don't want put on blast don't do shady shit to encourage such. LOL
I agree, we try to believe everyone who posts on here, but some hard proof would be nice. Unfortunately, there have been times where somebody gets mad, and starts posting a bunch of misleading facts about a company to try and hurt their business (Admiral Smurf comes to mind). Also, we get a lot of "plants" from time, to time. Which are LED company reps posing as members, trying to cast doubt on other companies, and then pitching their own product. I'm arguably A51's biggest supporter on RIU and have only had good experiences with their products and customer service. I'm sorry to hear that your experience wasn't as favorable.

Yeah honestly I can understand both of you. I could see myself acting the same way on both ends. I would also be upset about the lights not shipping and feeling like I wasn't getting what I thought. Then again if I were him I might just say the same thing thinking you didn't understand the situation and trying to take advantage of the situation. Which I too would try. LOL Though if it were me I wouldn't have a problem saying look man I'm sorry I screwed up I didn't get your lights out today, because I still don't think UPS missed the pick-up. But I'm just making assumptions and we know what that gets ya. LOL I won't take sides. Sucks, but I can see why both of you said and feel the way you do. To be honesty your's in my perception seemed a little passive aggressive, and his just short and blunt. From the consumer side we always expect the most timely of results where as on the other end consumers can seem a little demanding while oblivious to what's all going on behind the curtains. Though that's my perception and all of ours are different. Maybe could have went a little different but that ship has sailed and it is what it is.

So you going to go Onyx or you going to try DIY, or something else?

Why buy an Onyx when you can build "the exact same light for under 200 dollars" (according to one user here). Frankly I don't think so . you can buy all the components right down to an genuine onyx housing from Rapid but I bet by the time your shopping list is complete you'll be considerably over 2 bills.

hes a lagger. it took 2 weeks to send mine out. he kept saying tomorrow. Then he apologized that he was backed up from work. Once it was sent. it was here in 5 days. It showed up 2 days earlier than he said it would in the last email. Keep in mind. Jeff is one person doing it all by himself. He gets backed up from time to time. He drinks alot too or used to. Haven't seen him on here in a whiile. So he may have been drunk in those emails. or he was watching too much wwe and got way to into it lol

I will look at Onyx for sure. I wish Apache was more affordable lol. I am also looking into DIY and induction.

Gkskunky yeah I feel yah. Honestly I feel the exact same way you do, I might have been a little passive aggresive , but this was two days after I had paid I was told I wouldn't be receiving the lights for 2 more weeks?!?

Regardless of that, after these emails and me saying "thanks" he put a note again baiting me in the return section on PayPal....so he went BEYOND this email chain to mess with me, and that's not going to work:fire:

diy cobs or induction imo is the best way to go. apache is great but theres no discount anymore. i love my inda gro's. I also cant wait to build my cobs too.. I just have to get the rest of the parts and tools..

Yeah I would be on induction already but only have a 2x2 space so I need the 100, but no pontoons. I am still thinking its a good option though because I already have my 100w actual led, or I have the cree led bulbs like CFLs that could cover that spectrum? Idk

LOL Hold up hold up hold up hold up... This is kind of what I thought might have been the case.. You clearly said waiting for the delay was "unacceptable" you then demanded either a lamp for "cheap" (not the best word choice btw.. for future references the term "discounted" may work better for you) or a refund.. The reason I don't understand this whole thread is that he then gave you exactly what you asked for.. A REFUND!!

And in regards to the message on the paypal refund, you should be happier than a pig in shit for even getting your refund that quick.. I know for a fact there would have been plenty of businesses that would have just digged your money around (I swear there is always some type of multiple day holiday in China that delays any of my overseas orders) for a few days, just to be spiteful..

Idk, I'm sure I might have felt different had it been me trying to get the lamp.. But those shots don't really support this thread...

Yes, because I ordered before the deadline date on Monday which was a full day before the deadline and was told two days in a row that it would be sent out the next day then I get told it would be 2 more weeks? Is that acceptable for you? I am sorry, but in no way is that acceptable to me

Should look at some of the DIY Cob setups, just as a consideration whether for now or the future. Like the drone Greengenes built, or Mr/ Flux vero strings. Sure GG has a centralized case from an old apche he used to house the drivers, but not like you couldn't mount drivers else were or even remotely like the onyx does. Basically make a mounting rig that you could directly attach COBs with heatsinks. Seems pretty simple. When I go to add more lighting that's exactly what I plan to do. Supra and some others like LDS and green genes and others can help with driver selection and plenty of good info on some drivers, fans and thermal paste floating around on here.

It's a small company man. There's bound to be small screw ups here and there and that's what you should expect when dealing with these company's. Especially in a time when they are moving offices. He didn't rip you off in any way and promptly refunded your money back.

Calling it a "horrible experience" is way over dramatic.

I almost pulled the trigger on a 2nd XGS or a RW this weekend but I felt the deal was too close to A51's moving/holiday time and something like this could happen. Since Im in Europe that means I would have to wait like a month with overseas shipping and customs... so I decided to play it safe and went for another Hans instead... it was too risky. Guess I was right.

I agree with what GKskunky said, I can understand both parties... I would be really pissed off as hell if I was in your shoes. If you ordered the 11th then you should have your light posted, no discussion... yet you cant completely rule out something like this to happen that close to the deadline... Sorry it happened to you, glad it didnt to me.

That's what I was sensing at the beginning of this thread. I'm pretty sure that's what Jeff got out of it: conflicting complaint/demand.

I keep feeling this is the OP's loss. Unfortunately [for the OP], A51 lights are among the best. This is like the Seinfeld "Soup Nazi" episode. Sure, Jeff could benefit from a few Dale Carnegie ("charm school") classes. Like the Seinfeld episode, he shouldn't treat the OP that way. But, like that episode, people recognize one's orientation to the demanding chef is part of the price of acquiring a very good light.

If I were the OP, I'd kinda feel like George Kastanza now, trying to figure out how to re-enter the good graces of the Light Nazi (or, find friends to order one for me.). :) Seriously. Ok, fine, he was mean to you. But, it's among the best light available. I'd feel bad I lost access to it. Once the cathartic effect of venting your anger, disappointment and humiliation... was it worth losing access to a widely recommended light? Sure, in terms of business it's the Light Nazi's loss. But, after the victory of that statement wears off, don't you wish you had the light? That you weren't on bad terms with that guy?

I'm just trying to put a different perspective to this. Not that you're wrong or over-reacting, just that you're losing in another way you may not realize. I wish there was some way you two could find a way to put it right so you could still have A51 as a tool in your grows.

Az2000 what makes their light sogood? IIt's not like they use the newest technology or parts that normal people can not get.

Anyone can build a better light with a better/higher output in their garage for less then half.

people that don't respect clients or customers when they are taking your money can go fuck them selves.
actually they do use top parts. Just to buy the bins alone for one light would cost $350 plus all other parts. The casing is very expensive to have made. Jeff buys 1000 leds minimum from Cree at a time. So he gets a much cheaper and able to sell it cheaper than it would cost the average person to build.

its cheaper to build cob panels. You can get 100w cree cob for $40 -$48. To buy the same leds in the a51's would cost much more

I never said they didn't use top bin components. All the name brand lights I've sourced the parts for them and can do them 15-60% cheaper.

you can build that exact light for under $350 for everything except a nice shiny sheet metal box... does the diodes or sheet metal grow the plant?

purplegrower02

Also when you say casing what do you mean exactly?

if it is indeed the metal box it is VERY cheap to have made and with a $150 brake and cutter you can make the same thing. Then all it is another piece of sheet metal with squares cut into it that the aluminum plate the leds are mounted to sits on top. On top if that you have your fan the drivers.... really not that complicated
