Houston.

I support my Texas teams but over saturation has me pulling for Tech the last few years.

Yeah, and every time it happens UT fans cry like babies. And this may be the year they do it again.

Of course being a private school, Baylor does not have the government resources to pay our head coach over a million dollars a year.

I happened to be on the UT campus just this past Friday. I felt like I needed a shower afterward.

One of my best friends is an Aggie and is married to a Texas alum. Talk about a house divided.

Not too long ago, I was going to lunch with my Dad and a bum on the street corner was soliciting donations flashing the Hook 'em Horns. Dad said, "What do you want to bet he was valedictorian?" We had a good laugh.

Cold shower from hanging out in the mens locker room??

This is a shocker, bet this is the first time that has happened!!

I hope you don't make a living at this.

$3.1 million for 2009 before bonuses are factored in.

His salary is a wee bit exorbitant for a government employee. Your tax dollars at work.
Brown will make at least $5.1 million this season

With Florida’s Urban Meyer and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops receiving new contracts recently, some wondered if Texas was thinking of giving coach Mack Brown a bump in pay.

The answer is no. A Texas official close to the situation said there haven’t been any talks of restructuring Brown’s contract. And there’s a reason.

Meyer, whose Gators won the national championship in 2008, will make $4 million this year, while Stoops will receive $3.8 million.

Brown’s contract has him making $3.1 million for the 2009 season. Though that number is a little deceiving.

Brown is set to receive an additional $2 million if he remains the Longhorns coach through Jan. 15, 2010. That’s basically the end of the 2009 season. That puts him over the $5 million mark.

Brown could make even more with built-in incentives.

The Longhorns are expected to compete for the national championship this year. If they win it, Brown will make an extra $650,000, bringing his total to $5.75 million.

Brown could make an additional $150,000 if Texas graduates 75 percent of his players.

So, no, Texas doesn’t feel the need to restructure Brown’s contract right now.

None of his salary is government money, that is pure stupidity. You clowns make what you want of this. I wanted some football banter, not foul mouths from the likes of a child and another claiming that tax dollars pay for a coach. Obviously you have NO clue how coaches get paid. I played football there in the early 90's. As a player, I know exactly where monies come from and how it works. I am done with this thread. I had hoped to have some fun with it, not have it ruined by two people. Anyways, I am back to growing and enjoying my smoke. Again, good riddance to you both!!

From Texas, didn't go to either school (went out of state/Big 12, pretty unbiased between the two) but A&M is a joke, sorry bro...

UT doesn't even see you as their "nemesis," if you will, anymore. It's all about the Red River Shootout nowadays.

After checking out both schools for College a couple of years ago, I found UT to be much more appealing:
1. Better academically - except for veterinary work, maybe that's why they take Bevo there - AGRICULTURAL and mechanical.
2. Not in College Station
3. Better at sports
4. Not super conservative to the point that it's messed up
5. Their fight song isn't completely about beating another school, which hasn't happened in awhile
6. They don't have the Corps, which is basically an adult version of boy scouts who want to feel like they are in the army
7. Not in College Station... again
8. They don't call another school "T.U." - It's not insulting, it's not hilarious, just stupid
9. A&M was created to be a branch off of UT for Agriculture and Mechanics, yet no Aggie realizes this
10. I hate how Aggie alumni refuse to wear orange, its just a color, it does not mean you are committing treason
11. You waste a friday night learning to yell for a team that hasn't been good in 15 years
12. A lot of my friends wanted to go to UT, but had to settle on A&M because they didn't get in. UT is also ranked higher, but Aggies ignore this saying they're smarter

And that is why I cannot stand Aggies or Aggie fans. Baylor doesn't bother me as much, but please don't act like its a smarter school just because it is private or whatever, it's just as easy, if not easier to get into than the other two.

I'm sorry, but living in Texas with both sets of fans, and visiting both schools, I wish I didn't waste that weekend to visit A&M.

Funny. He is the highest paid public employee in the entire state and you claim none of it is government money.

Now I am aware that UT's athletic department is it's own entity separate from the university strictly from a financial standpoint, but that is just an accounting trick.

It allows the university to go to the Legislature every two years and cry poverty all the while blithely ignoring the millions upon millions of dollars of non-taxed revenue brought in through tickets, merchandising, and television.

If the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department were to claim revenue from state parks "didn't count" the taxpayers would be howling for blood.

And let's talk about facilities. Is D.K.R.-Memorial Stadium exempt from property taxes? When construction is done on any of the athletic facilities, is that appropriated through the Legislature or is it paid for by the athletic program directly?

But this is the University of Texas! All is forgiven.
