How Did You Get Your Nym

You have the best grow journal title of all time, from which I learned a lot!
Thanks alot man, I'm glad it helped you learn something. It definitely taught me alot over the years of keeping the journal and talking with all the other great growers around here. That's exactly why I still hang around, to try to pass on the good info to the next batch of newbies. Hopefully if we keep sharing the good stuff, they won't have to weed through as much of the bullshit that is out there.

This place was a totally different world back then. There were several growers of real renowned that regularly posted, shared info and assistance. There was a lot more experimental grows getting posted, lots of unique set ups and styles. I’m really glad to have gotten to experience those days. RIU has literally helped shape parts of my life. It advanced my growing, introduced me to friends I’ve known for over a decade at this point. It’s literally gotten me jobs and opened doors to a few opportunities.

I’d love to see more of the community come back to it all. There used to be annual BBQs with members. It’s crazy to me that as more places have gotten legal, more of the community has fallen apart.

A.couple of us have started a community grow journal as a path back to that. We would like to see more themed, collective journals as a way to reinvigorate the growing culture.

I think prohibition is what helped form the outlaw bond in the early days. Legalization seems to be the solvent pulling it apart. Newly legal states like mine are absolutely bubbling with change and clone and seed trading is ramping up fast, on Facebook, no less. I've been surveying that landscape and all I can say is the knowledge base here at RIU is priceless. Yes, we still battle bro science but outside these walls pandemonium reigns.

n.b. my prolixity is a sure sign of being high. Whaa, there went the last of my NL#2

Not familiar with the avatar pic, what is it?
I missed this question earlier. My avatar is a detail of a Japanese woodblock print from 1892 depicting Ichikawa Danjuro IX in the role of Sukeroku by Toyohara Kunichika. He was the Brad Pitt of 1890s Tokyo, renowned for his physical beauty and mastery of dancing. Here is Ichikawa Danjuro XIII, the current occupant of the lineage:Screenshot_20231024_171429_Google.jpg

I could go on and on, but I won't. Proud Kabuki nerd!

That was a fucking awesome post, I never would have known.

Ya'll are in deep shit... I just _now_ upgraded from a 6 mbs DSL line to a 1 gig fiber connection.

If you knew anything whatsoever about where I am (Blue Ridge escarpment), you would know it's technologically awesome!

Get ready for some videos, now that I'm not limited to taking 2 to 3 hours to upload.

When I joined here, in more innocent times, I was an avid golfer with an embarassing swing flaw that led me to SHANK the ball with embarassing frequency, much to the amusement of my playing partners, who began to call me the shanker man. In a spirit of stoned self mockery I deleted the vowels and the rest is history.
I'm glad I have been reading your name in my head correctly the last couple years or so.

... For the record @Laughing Grass & @StareCase are killer user names :) ...
Thank you Mr. Chiz ... the name came from my younger stoner sister back in the late 1970's.

When we smoked weed back then, for the first few minutes of the climb, I would stare into the distance completely oblivious to everything. One time, my sister made the comment "you become quite the stare case when you get stoned ...".

Not sure why but that phrase registered with both of us at that moment.

Shortly after, that sentence morphed into our safe phrase - "it's time to go up the down stare case ..." whenever we wanted to toke. Like we thought that actually fooled our folks ...

We used that phrase for a while but as time passed, we didn't need to fool anyone by using code words or shit so by the early 80's, that safe phrase was shortened even further to just a quick "Starecase?" when the desire struck.

I did use the nym Starecase on CANNABIS.COM during my fluorescent light grows in the late 1990's and into the early 2000's.

About 15 years later, Ontario legalized and RIU rolled into town. Starecase was revived.

Just my initials and a play on last name. My initials are DMC and normally I would have simply rolled with that, but threw in the Chiz for giggles. In a legal country so don’t need to be super cloak & dagger thankfully. For the record @Laughing Grass & @StareCase are killer user names :)
Any relationship to delorean?

This was the first name that came to mind. It's no Rockstar Wheel tho.

Actually that would be a kickass title, @curious2garden hook a sister up!
