how do I register a new strain

hello beautiful people and good morning! how does one go about registering a new strain? I have an accidental and extremely unique Jack O Lemon (Lemon Kush M/ Jack Herer F) which hermie pollinated an adjacent GG#4... its pretty interesting in many aspects, included a very large diameter root structure and super soft and thin leaves.. round buds like GG#4 but sativa leafiness and heavy resin production on the leaves... Very very citrus smell and taste much like the JOL.

My friend whos bag seeds started the GG#4 run named it Jack Glue.

Thought and comments are appreciated... here is the mother harvested, i have two gens of clones currently, one two weeks into outdoor fall flower... one set in early veg in the tent, I have no seeds...

here is preharvest first plant

hello ilovereggae, I hope you are having a productive day. you didnt really answer my very real question and was hoping to maybe find someone here who would be able to provide some guidance.. I do have a strain... and its on gen 3... as far as paid promotions... and I need to disclose when I get things giving to me if I made a video about it.. I didnt get paid anything and if you actually watched the 2nd video I didnt give that relatively dangerous electric trimmer the most glowing review... just saying.. ease up...

sorry if I misjudged you. there's been an uptick in spam lately so I jumped to conclusions.

to answer your question, I am pretty sure Jack Glue is already taken for one. Ive seen both Jack Glue and Black Jack Glue strains in shops.

there is no official register of strain info. there are a few sites that let users submit the info, and some other sites that are scraping and making their own reviews. unfortunately half of them are myths and the other half just wrong. well, not that bad but unfortunately since it was illegal for the last 100 years and not much history exists, so most of it is best guesses. Which is how we have 10 different origin stories for OG Kush.

clone only "strains" from accidental crosses obviously do exist, we wouldn't have half of our favorites without that, but those become known by the actual cut being shared between growers. sometimes its not even a new cross just a unique pheno. so if its really that killer, spread the love and your strain will live on.

imho the best strains are worked lines where the breeder took 2 landraces / or stable lines, and took them to f4, bx them, and repeated until there was a stable "strain" that produced only a few phenos and was very stable. then you can get those seeds and know what to expect when you pop them.

one other thing to consider,, accidental crosses that were caused by hermi tend to have hermi traits in their offspring. so not usually recommended for further breeding.

if its just for you and your friends, you can call it whatever you want!

thanks for the reply. this is definitely a new strain, black jack glue is a black Domina hybrid, this is clearly very different and doesn't appear elsewhere in reviews or anywhere on weedmaps for example... Im sure Ill find a few seeds soon enough...

there is definitely a jack glue, its for sale at a local delivery here in LA right now in wax form, I just looked at the menu. i can have some at my door in the next 20 mins if you really don't believe me. I can PM you the link if you want, not going to post it on here.

when you say you have 3rd generation of the strain, do you mean you have bred the offspring of those seeds 3x, selecting a male and female from each generation? or do you mean you have taken clones from the mother plant 3 times? I'm sorry if I misunderstand, but what I think you have is just a nice cross that you happened to find a keeper pheno of, and you want to know what to call it?

what is your intention? just to be recognized for making the cross? don't take this negatively, I am just trying to understand what you are trying to do.

generally a strain becomes known because it is distributed, in either seed, clone, or end product form. if you intend to sell clones or the flower, as mentioned above you can call it whatever you want. there is no organization or anyone to register with. if your shit is fire, people will remember it and it will be referred to as whatever you called it.

weedmaps is not a valid source, nor is leafly, wikileaf, or any of the rest of them. they just copy/paste info they found on google searches. cannasos has the most valid data I have seen but even they are shaky. seedfinder is hit or miss. a long and respectable internet history of compiling strain info but anyone can submit the strains and there is a ton of flat out wrong info on there too.

honestly searching the forums is more likely to get you accurate info, especially if you find the original posts by some of the breeders in the early 2000s who were pushing things to the next level.

As has been said you can't register a strain. But you can call it whatever you want.

Here's my Durbistan. Pakistani Chitral Kush + Durban. I have some F5's growing right now. Planning on taking it to F7. At that point it will be an IBL.

Here's some other names I've given some of my crosses. It's basically just for fun. I have no ownership of the names even if I might have been the first to make the cross.

Pakima - Pakistani Chitral Kush + Panama.

Mazar Durbistan - Mazar I Sharif + Durbistan.

Russetama - White Russian + Ketama.

I'd say if the OP had over 100 phenos and had them all tested and grown out for determination of growth characteristics, I'd say he might just have a thing. But we wouldn't know for sure until the genetics have been tested on a much larger scale by other growers. I'll take a few clones though. Lol

I miss the old days when the names actually made sense. Columbian Gold, Panama Red, Jamaican, Thai, Hawaiian, or Skunk Bud which was a blanket name given the early indica strains that started showing up on the west coast in the late 70's. At least that's what we called it.
