I’ve started some collards from seed and some cabbage. It’s been so damn hot here that there’s been reason to plant fall crops before now.
Has anyone ever grown any ginger before ? I planted some in the spring ( kinda forgot about it ) but it’s about 4’ high now and I’m wandering when to pick it or do I over winter it or have I wasted space ( I didn’t waste any time fussing over it considering I forgot about it ) . I’m in zone 8.5 .

I cant wait till I have tomatoes. Mine are almost there. I pluck the flowers off for the first 3 weeks after they start flowering so they can veg and get giant. Then I let them flower and its unreal how many tomatoes pile on. Pollination hasnt been the greatest this year though, lots of dead flowers. Still, Ill have more tomatoes than a Greek bazaar.

I don't pinch off flowers but I pinch off all suckers to make a single vine. But that may be my ocd. Works for me!

47 pounds of tomatoes from these this year so far. San marzanos, 3 plants. All 3 have exceeded what the internet says is their maximum output and maximum height. Stunned to hear other gardeners say they don't support their SM's... mine have outgrown their provided support and are cascading to the ground...

Started some onions indoors Zone 9b
Made this template for my garlic. 6” centers. This is my first year growing onion rows. I’m going to use the same template for the onions and place drip tape down the center.

You’ve done a fine job of starting the seeds. I personally struggle with starting onion seed . Do you basically use the same methods as weed . Because I usually try to do it on the screened in porch and I think the soil temps are to low . It’s just hard to give up grow space for onion seed. I would love to hear your process to see if I can improve my feeble attempts .
PS I was more than disappointed when I tried to grow those creole and didn’t succeed at it.
I’m zone 7b btw.

Sure I’ll show you what I did and assume you have never grew anything. Not insulting anybody’s intelligence. Here goes.
I bought these tray kits on Amazon. Top, middle, and bottom section.
I filled all the cells with Fox Farm soil. About 90% full and tapped it down. Next I sprinkled the seeds on top and put a very light layer of FF soil on top. Maybe a little too light as you can see some are germinating on top. Then I misted everything with a spray bottle and put the lid on top and base on the bottom. Put the whole thing in an old tent under these lights. I keep these lights on following the current light pattern outside.
These popped in 4-5 days. About day 10 I took the lids off. I lift a corner of the dirt cells up and dump enough water to fill the bottom tray 1/4” then put the corner back down. The dirt sucks (wicks) the water up from the bottom where it should be without disturbing the surface. So far I have just fed plain un-ph’d water. I will add 1/4 strength nutes when the second set of leaves appear. And here we are today.
You have to buy the correct onion seeds for your area. They have long day, short day, and Intermediate. Mine are all short day varieties for 9b.

Thanks. What do you think the temp inside the tent is ?
I’m actually a fairly successful gardener, I just haven’t had much luck with onions from seed or sets or bulbs.
