How important are nutes?

Rockwool is nonorganic, so there's no food in that. No one I know can eat lava rock or clay gravel. That's not food. Just plain water can keep plants alive for quite some time but water hasn't got a lot of food in it either. That's why we add fertilizers, which are refered to as nutes. Nutes are food for your plant. You cannot operate a hydro unit with the amounts of nutes recommended for dirt because you would O.D. your plant on plant food much like you might experience a difficult time if someone started shoving to much food in your mouth all at once.

Good statement.... It was ragging my head that a few people were saying theres no nutes in water at all, as i grow hydro and they stay very much alive in my growing medium until the roots break through to the water with the nutes.
