There is also a big difference in preserving terpenes and encouraging production. You don't need to preserve terps while the plant is still growing. You need it to continue producing them as long as possible. Unfavorable growing conditions tend to inhibit production of everything you want.
Also, preserving profiles of plants for extraction is a little different as well. Although for instance live freezing does help preserve the whole profile of the plant this is also because it makes the trichomes more brittle and easier to extract. When doing this you are separating the undesirable chlorophyll and plant matter from trichomes...something that when smoking bud we accomplish by drying and curing rather than chemically or mechanically.
Still, the plants can be extremely hardy and grow despite non ideal situations.

False color change is silly imo. But customers get tricked by that bs all the time. As for terp production to my knowledge that isn't proven. Basically bro science. But unproven doesn't necessarily mean wrong. So again to each his own.
Well originally I couldn’t find the thread so I wrote all that is below to give you an idea of what I read lol. But I have found it now so I’m posting the link below, but I’ll leave my summary lol.

Now increase of production meaning TRICHOMES, NOT THC OR TERPENES SPECIFICALLY, though some side by side tests have shown increase in production of thc by 2%, though in that same particular strain terpenes went down. Which in my opinion is gonna affect the high more than the extra 2% thc. There are many reasons for the increase in trichome production in various strains. During the night plants uptake oxygen and release carbon dioxide, opposite of daytime function. Increased levels of oxygen eventually cause the plants to begin breaking down chlorophyll which will lead to a smoother smoke even, but also the increase in trichome production. It is assumed that at this point the plant releases more trichomes as well as increases terpene production as a defense mechanism, I don’t think this has been proven yet though. Also, the trichomes act as a sunscreen during the day , and are restored to 100% during the night to be ready for the next day. That’s why most people harvest early morning or even before dawn, because the terps and trichs are full power. Did you know that some terpenes begin to evaporate at 70f? This could explain the theory behind increase in terpene production during the night. Once again, maybe one/ none these processes are happening in any given strain. Increased trichome production is definitely a reality though, BUT NOT EVERY STRAIN. Thats why sometimes you will run into someone strongly disagreeing . They’ll try once or twice, it doesn’t show, and then dismiss every single strain. And they’ll never try again. That trait might even show up in some phenos of a strain and not in another possibly. I really hope I find this thread.

I gave it a quick read.

Increased levels of oxygen eventually cause the plants to begin breaking down chlorophyll which will lead to a smoother smoke even. This happens once we chop the plant and hang it in the dark. Most people don't realize the plant has not died yet even though we chopped it. It will still attempt to go through its processes.

Putting it in the dark doesn't help this particular factor as it happens anyway during the drying phase if drying is done correctly.

My point in pointing that out is again people do unnecessary things in the thought they are doing something special.

I posed this question earlier.

dont see an issue for dropping the temps for a day or 2 before harvest. But I guess the question remains why would a day or 2 or even 3 matter when the plant has been building terps for the entire flowering time?

If the reasoning is to preserve terps wouldn't it stand to reason that the 2 weeks before chop would cause a major issue for terps?

Just questions raised in my head.

I dont see how 2 days makes any kind of worth while difference.
