How much more yield with a good LED 1k vs 600 hps

I'm sorry but in my experience that isn't true. I have 2 LED boards in my closet and only the thin space around the folding doors as ventilation. I have a small space-heater/fan mounted at the light level to blow air across the tops of the LEDs and they stay very cool to the touch. I have grown with HPS in closets and there is no way I could use an HPS in that closet without ducting and cage fans to draw out the air from the bulbs.
I know you wont be convinced by whatever i say, but efficiency of a light doesnt matter. A 600w led produces more light per w than an 600w hps, but they both produce the same amount of heat for the energy used. Pretty sure its a law, maybe newton.. bongsmilie

A watt is a watt, it takes the same btu to cool whatever watt from whatever source, however some wavelengths will pass right through your white tent wall and warm up the area outside (mainly ir which most leds lack). The big difference is leds convect a lot of heat from their back, away from the plants, whereas hid radiates heat in all directions including right at the plant

BLURPLES also... it comes from the LEDS as opposed to the back. But even they don't get hot like HPS. I just know what I know from my personal experience and not all the specs... I'm too lazy to do all that work, getting a tent and all that equipment. I only know my plants kick ass and there's no heat problems.

I don't think pointing a small plastic fan at an HPS would be the same as pointing one at an LED. just from my experience

The difference in heat between HID and LED is how the heat is emitted. HID has much more radiant heat, which is projected towards the canopy, which is why it feels warmer than LED. This is also why you can run higher ambient temps with LED compared to HID. At the end of the day though 1 watt = 3.41 btu's.

I average around 300-350g from a 240w quantum board regardless of it being in a 2x4 or 3x3. So far it always seems to fall between 1.25 and 1.6g per watt, but I've seen claims of up to 2g per watt with LED.

It's just crazy to me that you could scrog any strain and get 9.5oz in that space.

I'll give you an example of when I changed to LED.

4x8 using 3x 600w hps , 4 plants per light at different stages of flower . 15 oz a crop.
So really working with less than ideal space , also I was using cooltubes which are renowned for terrible light spread.

Switched to 720w of Cobs and 560w of QBs , each covering 4x4 of my 8x4.
So this meant I divided my space in two and not 3 allowing more veg time per crop.
Harvest every 5 week, perpetual.

I'm telling you this so you understand its an unfair comparison.

First crop under the 90cri Cob was 32 oz.
Next crop under the quantum boards was 33oz.
Next crop under the 90cri Cob was 37oz, a personal best , I also had a few oz or rot that I'm not counting.
That continued for around 3 more crops before I had to move house.

So , yeah I yielded with the same strain a lot more under LED. But I also allowed more veg, put more effort into filling my space because I wasn't overwhelmed having g to crop every 3 weeks like before.
I'd say because I built my first light at great cost that pushed me to concentrate on maximising my space too.
Also this is with high yielding strains like blue cheese, blue dream ect.

Bottom line really is , LED will greatly improve both the amount of light and the light spread compared with a single ended 600w hps in a 4x4, which really isn't ideal.
For what they cost these days I'd highly recommend it.
My Cob cost like £700 to build. Just no need to spend that these days.
The 2 strains I'm running now don't like light compared to the other 30 strains I ran, I'm getting a lot of leaves getting light stress especially one one strain even under a 400hps in a 3x3.

9.5 oz. from a 4 x 4 is pretty low.

That yield sounds more like it. The most recent grow from just a half-hearted manifold in the ole 2 x 4 yielded just under 15 oz. with around 390 COB watts.

There is a new SCROG in progress where all 8 square feet will be filled with tops. Really interested to see what they will yield this time.
Yes it is very low, bc its the strain. On avg in other strains I've avg probably 14oz (2 plants, not that the number of plants make a difference). I had one strain before in a 3x3 with a 400hps were I would get 9oz with 1 plant which is unheard of.

Im using 430-450w LED and it totally helped with temps and best yield so far is around 500g with two plants. Avarage with 600hps was 400g. First round with leds was the lesson teacher, dont underrestimate them because even if they run pretty cool they still can burn your ladies. In that round my ladies got light burn and freaked a little bit but thank god rising the light helped them to recover.

if this was true there wouldnt be different types of anything. leds produce more light and less heat. hps produce more far red light thats heat but allsoo in the process of making electricity in to light produce electricity in to heat more.converson rate is more optimal

Well I need it to cover a 4x4 area, any good recommendations on a good light and price, something very good.... Also will this light give off more heat than a 600hps? These 2 plants I'm getting in the 4x4 are bad yielders, I'm getting just above 9 oz's total. Some LED that would give like closer to 12 oz's would be nice.
Hlg Scorpio respec, from youtub videos, has the best coverage for 4x4... the most uniform I ment.

Led produces more visible light per watt, but the light doesn't just disappear. Tiny part of the light gets converted to plant mass, but most of it (/practically all of it) is absorbed by something and turns in to heat. Energy cannot disappear. It just changes form. Most of the heat leds produce is convective heat and it just rises up from the back of the fixture. It's easy to suck it out. HPS produces a lot of IR, like you said, and it heats up all surfaces it lands on. That heat must radiate off off the surface and then be sucked out. A 600w led and 600w hps will heat your lung room to the same temperature, but in the grow area the HPS would feel hotter due to the IR, but the total ammount of heat is still the same.

Per watt yes, leds produce more light.
The rest of what you are saying i am having trouble making any sense of.
1watt=3.41 BTU/hr
600w of led produces the same amount of heat as anything else that consumes 600w
