ohwow thanks!
I really like the idea of one loong night - given that's where we're headed with the solstice anyways, sort of matches the season haha
So yeah I'll do that!

@TheStickMan nah they slashed night tariffs here in Tirol a few years ago, so it's "only" going to reduce the costs (& effort) in that I won't be needing additional energy to cool / maybe even heat the closet. But that is something too, right! ;)

Oh! And I have nooo idea as to yield - hoping it will be good, but we'll see
Tirol? Is that Austria?! And you have 300 watts of lighting, so I reckon maybe between 7 and 10 ounce? You lucky bugger :-P

lol better not let my son (that kind of sounds bad -- he's 18, ok?!) see that - I've gotten him to lower his expectations to 160g - he's going to be selling to his friends to cover the closet setup costs (and of course supply good quality weed for their parties ;) though I must say, these kids are smoking way better stuff - they even discuss strains and grow methods, for which I didn't have a thought till a year ago - and he's mighty proud of my grow = his anonymous source lol)

Yep Tirol in Austria - lovely place, best tap water in the world, but just a winter that's too long, dark and cold for my wellbeing - and the fact that I'm not into winter sports doesn't help ;)

so YAY for the winter solstice!!! Here's to the return of the light!! :joint:
My girls are now in their prolonged night, I've decided that since I don't need to shift gradually I'll move light times to 8pm-8am.. still feels a bit weird, given that they will be sleeping whilst I'm up and about and making noise (the closet is in my living/work space). But I reckon the temps advantage will outweigh those doubts. So really looking forward to seeing how it works for me!

It's always best to be slightly pessimistic I think! I always aim low, which I will be this time as I've dropped so many clangers! And I'm going to be putting her into flower a lot smaller than the last plant! Infact I'm switching to 12/12 tonight!
I've always wanted to go to Austria, I was looking at it last year! I'm not one for sunny beaches and laying about doing sod all, Id much rather explore and see new and beautiful things. I do like the cold weather as well, I've recently been to Iceland which was amazing! Have you always lived in Austria? And what are the laws over there?

Wohoo! How has she recovered from her amputation? Do post an update!

Speaking of which!
Day 7 of flower
The first light-night is coming to an end, and I was a bit disappointed to see that temps still went up to 30°C.
Lights will be lights I guess - and yeah temps were the #1 reason I added a CFL instead of another/a stronger HID lamp...
Turning up the vent a bit does lower temperatures by 2-3° though, so I will be doing that during lights on. Maybe I also need to find a better spot for my inner vent, so it helps blow the heat from under the lamps more...
The upside is that now low temps are around 22°. So at least the extreme oscillation is taken care of.
All that said, the girls themselves look pretty happy and are busily growing their buds all over the place :-P

What I did see yesterday is that quite a few leaves are getting a tiny bit of discoloration on their very tips... not sure about what's going on there, but not worrying about it just yet.
AND I saw two-three leaves that look as if someone chewed on them  Couldn't see any creatures anywhere nearby though, so maybe it happened during weaving... But, another thing to keep an eye upon.

I can imagine Iceland has quite a special magic to it! Did you go in summer?
And no I've not always lived here, but have been for ages (like 30 years haha). The laws here are still very strictly prohibitional. Which is soo two-faced, seeing Austria has an alcoholics' culture. And when you go out, people are sitting in those few bars where smoking is still allowed suckling their vape thingies haha (as in, everybody smokes weed, but it's still illegal?! yeah...). There IS a way to get a medical marijuana pass (there are like 2 or 3 doctors in Austria that diagnose you for money lol), not sure how much that keeps a body out of trouble with the police though.
I really should be in Portugal, where they've pretty much de-criminalized all sorts of drugs - you're allowed to carry weed for "personal use" (the law says that's =25g LOL!), not sure about their attitude towards growing though

Thanks! Hm nute burn -- then they did it to themselves, as I'm not adding nutes at all
And, that's a marigold - she must've been either in the mulch or the shovelful of garden soil that came with the earthworms I added to the pot. I left it to see how it does down there ;)

Looking very well! Have you considered using a 250w instead of two lamps? And are you wanting them to stretch any more?
My lass seems like shes doing good, well she were this morning anyways, can't see her while 9.pm! Still can't get used to this night time lights on!
I feel an update coming on, I'll get some photos on in a couple of hours when she wakes up!
I wouldn't worry about the discolouration of the tips unless it gets worse. Like zig zag blue says, slight nute burn, however it does sound strange in your situation! I like to see that bit of yellowing on tips, I know I'm on the limit and need to back off slightly with the nutes.
And no I went there in the winter, it was cold but not too much! Some really beautiful places and things to see!

Indeed, I did weigh 250W HID vs. adding the CFL, the cost of getting a new ballast&lights wouldve been about the same, but I betted on the CFL generating less heat (and also felt bad about scrapping my light setup after just one grow). Not sure I won on that one...

I really hear you on the night light cycle being weird and uncomfortable haha
Thanks also for the reassuring words regarding those leaf tips - yes it IS weird, I'll have to think about that more as to possible reasons ... not too hard tho! ;)

Merry Christmas everybody, enjoy the slowdown, I definitely will haha!:weed:

Day 16 of flower
So I left town for a few days over Christmas and bam! when I get back -- fungus gnats! :?
Whilst to now, it was always only 2 or 3, this time it was more like 20-30 - and they are in other plants too. So this time I will be moving to more drastic measures - bacillus thuringiensis israelensis and SF nematodes are on the way.

I would have preferred to have bought them at a local store - but it seems a town with 150k inhabitants is too provincial to have this kind of stuff stocked in wintertime - never mind diatomaceous earth, which no one seems to have even heard about (At one of the garden centers I went to, they showed me perlite haha). Sighs.

So, I wait. And ponder removing my lovely mulch, which is being eaten sooo nicely by the soil inhabitants --- I really don't want to!! Just to keep the topsoil dry, it's such a pity to interrupt the nice decomposition process I got going there!
...I think this grow is going to go down as "The Fence Grow", since I have never sat on the fence about so much in such a short space of time like this before haha :bigjoint:

Meanwhile, in the closet, completely unperturbed by all that....

Miladies Dawn and Dusk doing their thing :-D

2015-12-29 (2).JPG

They're 10-20cm above the screen now, and since there is nowhere I can weave the taller branches to (the adjacent spaces all being taken), this is how they will now grow out.

Here's a few shots of them under a daylight light - the canopy, and a bud from Dawn and Dusk whose progress I'm documenting:
2015-12-29_d16-flower.JPG 2015-12-29_dawn.JPG 2015-12-29_dusk.JPG

Oh and they have been developing smells for a few weeks now, sometimes very strong and earthy (almost disagreeable to my nose, made me think of RM3 and his theory that plants only smell when they're stressed  Interestingly, that acrid note subsided when I raised my lights a bit, hmmm).
But the aroma, which one can now actually call that, is getting better and subtler and very interesting with flowering - I swear today they smelt of grapes
Cheers!

Thanks! And to think that they still have 2 months ahead of them - exciting to see what they'll do in that time :D
You will enjoy it.

I been having heat problems again. Its crazy. Its normally in the 20's this time of year. Its been in the 70's and been wearing shorts.

I expected cold weather and to crack a window.

Shorts! I had to re-read that haha
Not quite that drastic hereabouts -- but at least the days are starting to get longer again ;)

Hope you had a nice time away but sorry to hear about the gnats!!
They are looking very well though! Sooo many bud sites, they are going to look great, can't wait to see em in a few weeks!

The Bacillus do a good job killing the fungus gnats I get whenever I buy bagged soil. If you're having problems a layer of sand on the soil surface will help as well if things get bad that's what I have done in the past but generally with the Bacillus I don't have any more problems.

I'm also curious, you mentioned a theory that plants put off a smell when stressed. I've noticed these are the smelliest plants I've ever had in veg. They seem happy and the smell is good (like you walk in the house and want whatever that smell is good) but I have never experienced a smell this strong before flower.
