How'd I Do?

I'm growing Barney's LSD right now; going to mother it up :) It's still a seedling, in fact; and growing pretty slowly. But, it'll get there! Super good choice IMO; I'm excited to see what my phenotype reveals!! Good luck! I'm glad to see a Diesel in there and the Cotton Candy could be delicious.
This is the shit I don't understand. You're going to mother it up? But you haven't even grown it to maturity yet?

Unproven seedling from a shit hole company and your going to use it as a mother? Dude if I could slap some sense into via the Internet, I would. Good luck with your grow.

Hi there lil lady!! I tell you I have had terrible results with Barneys. I dont like to bag on anyone but the results have never been what they proclaim it to be. I have ordered multiple strains and I had low germination rates and the ones I did get to grow...the potency was super weak. Vanilla Kush and Tangerine Dream were both huge disappointments for us along with a few others. I read mixed reports on them but to be honest mostly bad reports...such was the case for us!!
Funnily enough I returned a half germinated pack of critical Kush to my friends hydro store. He ordered them from Planta Sur and I think they have old stock. Especially as I had low germination rate with another company purchased through them. I'm planning on mentioning it to him in February when I see him. Whenever I've purchased seeds at the show they have always been better, direct from the company. I still insist that he works conscientiously and not like a mass producing fly by night seed company. Many of whic have been set up in recent years.

it looks like you have a really nice variety thing going on there. a lot of the more afghani leaning strains aren't my cup of tea, but i bought a silver haze #9 to try myself against it's hazier (?) sibling jack herer, and would love to try cole train and lemon diesel too.

the best way to know though is for you to test everything and pick YOUR favorites. no one knows your tastes better than you.

i'm happy to see another grower who's not just looking for a big fast potent yield, but a variety of flavors and effects too. you'd have something to satisfy EVERY toker in that collection

Barneys Farm - 2 Blue Cheese - crap. 2 Pineapple Chunk - even worse.
LA Con is good smoke, but a slow plant with a minimal yield. The Cole Train freebee was the wierdest plant I've ever seen. It hardly resembled pot 35 days in 12/12, and was sentenced to death. The auto is likely useless, but Cotton Candy/Delicious has the best chance of being worthwhile.

Early on, it looked appealing to get cheap fems - as many as possible for the money. And you're right that at the very least you can use these to hone your grow skills. As you progress, you'll find it's worth going a couple of extra $ and getting fewer but better beans. One somewhat inexpensive bean I know to be worthwhile is Freedom of Seeds Cheese Dom. Ready in 8-9 weeks, good yield and effect. The taste is delicious, and just keeps getting better as it cures. A 2nd 3 pack was nabbed in the Attitude Christmas promo; just have to have a fine cheese in the pantry at all times.

A lot of experienced opinions here, I appreciate the input ladies and gents!

I hear you on that, there's just no way for me to handle that amount of plants at this stage in the game. I'd rather get my techniques down and fuck up one or two plants then all of them at once. Maybe if I had 3 pc's a small cab and a armoir flower box haha only in my dreams:sleep:

Well, shit at least I only got a few from them... Sounds like I have a few I can use in experiments and not worry too much about

Well I misinterpreted that 1st one too! Too many :eyesmoke:

Thanks! Good luck with the grow! Post some results when you're finished, I wanna see how it turns out.

From what I read it hit and miss with Barneys. But my own personal experience has not been good.Wish I had better things to say about them since I did spend a pretty penny buying thier seeds!!!

Hazey- I think you just summed up my philosophy with this purchase. I think variety is the spice of life! Plus I can see how different strains grow. I really wanted more haze beans, but height is a limitation at this point so I'm gonna have to wait. I LOVE haze.

Amos- Thanks for the wisdom! I honestly haven't tried cheese in my 5+ years of smoking . You're right on how I wanted this to be a low cost endeavor. I'm gonna save the more costly quality beans for order #2.

Boy...we sure have a bunch of those fly by night so called breeders now. Its crappy whats goin on. I wish I had something better to report on my experience with Barneys but unfortunatly I dont and it sucks because I spent a good amount of money aquiring some of thier strains. It's to much of a hastle to try to get seeds replaced because like you I purchased them through another company and I kinda got the run around so I just gave up. But I have to say that I was majorly disappointed with Vanilla Kush and Tangerine Dream. The Vanilla Kush is proclaimed to produce a whopping 22-23% THC....Nothing could be further from the truth...it was very weak. I could see if a couple of plants turned out like that but I ordered 20 fems and I didnt find a one that was producing 22% THC. The Tangerine Dream was another story all together....it took forever to finish and the end result was less then impressive. I was really looking forward to the Vannila Kush since they boast such numbers. I also looked around the different forums for reports on Barneys gear and there is allot of negative feed back......There are some reports of some doing ok with it but in all honesty the NA'S far out number the YA'S.

The price of seeds has nothing to do with the quality. Just FYI.

PeakseedsBC - cheap, yet amazing.

Sannie - cheap, yet amazing.

Breeders Choice - Cheap, yet amazing.

E$ko - cheap, yet amazing.

And on it goes.

What I was mostly getting at, was that it appeared to me [ correctly it turns out ] that the OP's order placed a priority on how many beans he could get for his buck. Though as you [ and I ] pointed out there are exceptions, I stand by a general rule that a newbie browsing on a big seedbank for as many low dollar beans as possible is much more likely to be disappointed by the results of his order.

As is likely going to be the case w/ much of the OP's order.

The shame I think, is that the OP didn't jump all over the Christmas promo. With the collection of 7 free fems given away, he'd have still gotten some fine gear to run on top of the awful BF.

nah... height isn't an issue at all! just train your gals horizontally on a SCROG screen! then they can stretch all they want, and you just gotta keep bending 'em around to fit. SCROG was virtually invented for hazes. you'll get much better light penetration with ANY strain you SCROG, when you do so, the bud auxins get distributed equally making every bud think it's a top cola, you don't waste ANY space between your plants, it's a really good way to deal with multiple strains, though you could get some clutter that makes harvesting a bit more of a challenge, but
worth it for connoisseur grade bud.

look into that tech. it'll serve you much better than trying to sea of green your amazons. also, get a halide bulb! sativas love full spectrum light, and in general, you'll get better flavor and THC profiles because orange sodiums are one trick ponies that are only about flowering and yield. you'll lose some yield, but get better quality.

a really good CHEAP haze to try would be high quality seeds' haze x skunk. it's very potent, sticky and long lasting and a reasonably short 12 week flowering plant that NEVER turns stoney like columbian gold and is PERFECT for scrolling because it makes a ton of buds! it makes a single bud every inch or two! flatten that shit out, and oh my! light penetration down to what would be inferior popcorn?! it's only $30 too. it's not as refined as DNA's 9 week sweet haze, but is more potent and sensory. it's the best "heavy hitter'' i've grown, and it's surprisingly smooth too as i never woofed on it.

hope you share smoke reports and comparisons on everything you grow.

Sea of green is easier for me plus having only one plant? unless its a known clone, it could be shit.

Hazey, please cite where mh is better than hps... Cannabis needs the red spectrunm for best results in flower. obviously one can get better results if one uses both.

yes, using both light types WILL give you more flowering, but halides put red light out too. if you look it up using keywords like "halide spectrum pheno THC" up, you can find articles that talk about why fuller spectrum halides are better, and if you try "halide sativa" you should find more info. there's an article in here somewhere where either DJ shorts, i think, or if not him, TGA sub cool talks about using halides exclusively for sativas. there's a saliva strain called "metal haze" that's named after THAT breeder (dutch flowers, i think) using halides for their hazes.

i learned that halides are better for QUALITY back in the 80s with one of the earliest editions of jorge cervantes' AWESOME grow guide "indoor marijuana horticulture" which had more useful info in it than my other two guides combined! if memory serves me right, he also mentions that sodiums run hotter for the same wattage, probably because more of their orange spectrum is in the infrared range.

i don't have any of the links anymore as i don't have my own computer, but the info is very easy to find regarding why halides are better. from my own experience, my joey weed C99s & barney's LSD had hints of grape in their phono under the halide i used foy my first grow and my short stuff super cali haze tasted like straight up grape juice! trolls here wanted to argue about my flavors, but they were very likely growing under the same old sodiums cash crapping troll haters use. when i started my 3rd grow, i decided to start out using my second light, a sodium in a second generation luminaire 6 hood (great hoods!), and the SCH x C99 cross i made that should have had at least some grape flavor was merely fruity like the rest of my hazes, jacks and thais that leaned towards fruity with little variation.

i'm positive i got the superior flavors with the fuller spectrum. plants need blue for vedge, and UV for THC besides one or two other plant functions in other spectrums.

i'm just never using sodiums again. i don't like their hellish orange color even.

sea of green wastes space between plants where SCROG catches much more light and at closer range. that's why low branch popcorn sucks compared to tops. SCROGging gives you better coverage, is ideal for containing sati vas, as well as getting even coverage in multiple strain grows. you just vedge your plants out until your screen is full, then flip them. topping will give you more budding sites. SCROG is more labor intensive, but it gives you much more consistent bud quality and it's been claimed more weight. buds need light, as you see in that pic, ALL of the buds are NICE sized, and densely packed.

it's up to you to decide what techs you want, but for me, nothing will do but halide scrog. i've never got a screen set up yet, but can see why it's a good idea, especially after loving the tops of my haze x skunk more than the lowers, and it's so freakin' bushy, scrog would contain it better. you can fill your screen up with as many plants as you want. the idea is to just fill your screen up, then flip. it would take practice to get used to doing it with sativas which will still stretch into flowering, but they're less dense, so you could always overlap some too, and maybe adjust from time to time to reveal shade leaves.

you'd get better answers from someone whose done it, but i've already done the annoying "jacking your pots up to compensate for stretch thing" every day, and to me, that seems like much more work redecorating your garden every day and accidentally tipping stuff over. SCROG is more of a set and forget thing.

Dude you've never disappointed me in keeping me entertained!

You have internet don't you?

How can you dislike a light spectrum? That's ridiculous.

Propping up plants is more annoying than weaving a screen?

Yea scrogs know best. I'm more topping and lst kind of guy. I'd rather have variety.

Edites to add:
"if memory serves me right, he also mentions that sodiums run hotter for the same wattage, probably because more of their orange spectrum is in the infrared range."

That is patently false. MH run warmer than HPS.

I didn't know how well scrog's would work with haze strains.. makes sense now. Those buds look fantastic! How big was the grow box? OH and I'm going with LED for the entire set-up.. In the plans for a 3 stage stealth grow :weed:

Second, psss. He didn't grow that plant.

Regardless if he grew the plant or not, the buds still look good, no? And I appreciate your caution, I'm entertaining all the advice I receive. I'm in the process of doing my homework here, and I'll for sure be checking on the accuracy of the statements made; before I implement them in any grow. My take so-far from this thread? While there are a few diamonds in the rough but Barney's seed's are crap, I should be more thorough in my research of seed companies, and I should check out SCROG'ing (already done). Good looking out though kgp

Surely there are good plants to find in Barneys gear, you probably just need a little luck. And if you don't live anywhere where there are tonnes of elite cuts and such floating around chances are the first of anything you grow yourself will be pretty good. Just having unhandled product makes a world of difference in terms of potency. If I were you I'd still be excited to see what you have on hand.

You're right on not being anywhere close to elite cuts.. Only a shaky at best when it comes to top quality buds. And I am THRILLED to get to growing, so cheers to continued excitement with this hobby
