I have to use SCROG with led panel ?

Hello,

I'm beginner grower and i'm going to start a culture with a HLG 650R(led panel 600W) in a 1,5m x 1,5m box ( 5'X5' in us version , sorry i'm from belgium).

I would like to use SCROG method with 9 plant in 15l pot to do my culture but i just came back from my local grow shop and the guy told me that with led panel i don't need to do a SCROG because plants will take all space by themselves.

So , my question is : i have to even do the scrog or not ?
could you help me with that and your experience ?

another little question , i'm thiking about seed of og kush or Honey Cream to do my first culture , which one advise me ?

thanks in advance.

That light can penetrate the canopy efficiently enough to not have to maintain a horizontal screen of colas. And the buds will develop just fine on the lower branches that arent getting direct light. I think thats what the hydro guy was trying to say. Your light is good enough to grow big bushy topped plants.

^ what @MintyDreadlocks said. also, Scrog is used to maximize your tent footprint when you are limited by total plant count. It is also an advanced growing method that I would not recommend for a beginner grower.

In your case since you are going to do a nice square of 9 plants, these will bush out and create a nice canopy all on their own. I actually prefer this method over scrog. I wouldnt even bother topping them for your first round. Keep it simple as possible. Just focus on growing some healthy plants all the way through harvest. Once you have seen how the plants grow naturally one round, you can experiment with topping or LST if you feel you need them to bush out more.

Also about strains to grow. I am not familiar with Honey Cream what seedbank offers that. OG Kush is always a good choice but iirc its also not the easiest strain to grow. Also there's a million versions of it now, many of which have been selfed, so not sure how stable those genetics will be. I would try to find something that is a little more plug and play like Blue Dream or Bogglegum or something known to be really easy to grow.

The other thing to consider. Doing 9 plants in the same space you are going to have all different heights and feeding requirements if you grow from seed. Different phenos of the same strain can be very different plants.

Ideally you would want to grow 9 clones of the same mother plant. This would give you more of a "sea of green" style grow where the canopy is the same across the whole tent. This would require either sourcing clones from somewhere (which comes with its own risks of introducing pests into your space), or pheno hunting through a pack of seeds to find a suitable mother plant, and taking clones off of that.

All that said, the more I think about it, I would suggest going even simpler and just trying to do one or two plants at first until you get the hang of things. Its going to improve your chance of successful harvest. Introduce one or two more each round. You will quickly see where the challenges present themselves.

Welcome!
I would suggest starting out here:
This site has a tutorial type of set up, and coves a lot of topics from basic to advanced.
I think @ilovereggae gave good advice, and I don't mean to sound as if I'm disagreeing with it. I did 6 months of research before I ever tried a grow. I started with Scrog in Hydro and have had success, it's not impossible, but just know it is a more advanced growing method.
As stated above, a smaller plant count, and a simpler grow method may help you get a 'WIN' on your first grow. LST is about the most basic of training and may be a way for you to get a feel for how the plant reacts to training also.
Your grow, your choice.
Good Luck!

Yeah 5x5ft and 9 plants does not need a scrog, its a full tent untrained.
You would scrog with 4 plants in that space.

Thanks you for your answer.

So i will start and let the plant grow by own.

I will check more for my first seed.

BTW your tuto seems to be more completed and update than the french one hahah
