If you cant afford to tip don't go out to eat !!!!

I don't know, it's ALWAYS been that way around here...all servers get low pay and keep tips ( or split them with other servers)...I'm not sure there is a law, or these places find a way around it....but the tips work out BETTER than minimum wage anyways, my ol'lady used to kill it at coney island on sundays, bringing home wads of cash, way more than $8 an hour, I taught my girls to show alittle for the good tips...lol..JK.

I always tip good, even if the food is bad, thats the cooks fault, not the server...I've dined and dashed a few times ( split without paying the bill ) , but not without leaving a tip 1st!

LOL You should have read the thread. They can pay less than min wage if the monthly total combined with tips is more than min wage. If it's below they have to make up the difference. Federal law.

My point is theres nothing to add up, no one counts what tips they make...they don't even know untill they get home and count it....the owners do not count the tips and add it up monthly...lol...I've never heard of such nonesence...a tip is for the server to keep for THEIR service, not one place my girls have worked has counted their tips to see a monthly total.....I did read the thread, just not the links.

Then there really shouldn't be the attitude that they don't get minimum wage. Credit Card tips are recorded, but it is up to the server to record the cash tips and tell the boss if they got under min wage. :p

No attitude here, just saying the law doesn't make them pay minimum wage, personally I think it works out better for the sever like this....but I guess it depend on where they work...the coneys in the Detroit area get shit loads of bussiness, construction workers are throwing money at these people for breakfast and lunch...no complaints here, I just think people should know that they don't all make min. wage + tips. And the bikinii bar girls, they rake in the cash after work hours...you can't get a seat after 3pm.

Nobody said they all make min wage + tips. But they are all legally protected to make min wage.

I ate at mcdonalds yesterday, tipped them 10%, but I threw it at them and yelled BITCH and they kicked me out of the store. I dunno why still.

stop argueing with me!...lol...if you try to sue, they simply don't need your service anymore and they let you go...jobs are tight, servers have a right to bitch about no tips, but if they bitch about salary...it's back to filling out applications.

lol...you tiped a fast food place?...well, in some states they may have servers, but here you get it yourself...no one to tip....but I have thrown the food back at them a time or 2

if you require my tips to live get a better job

im broke bitch

i was recently in new Zealand and i am a changed man

NO TIpping ever, its sweet

I love people who make a random post in a thread with the short "Do it cause it's right" response. LMFAO
I do it cause it 'feels' right to me...and I usually get good service because I'm a nice guy. In most cases they deserve the tip...if they don't, I still leave allitle something, but I might not go back.

Okay. Fair enough.

So.... Why does it feel right?

i like tipping at the places i frequent and when i do its normally 20-30% i worked as a dishwaser to bartender and everything in between except a GM

servers are the most self indulgent twerps of any worker class

Because I'm a sucker...and I grew up taught that a 15% tip was standard, and my mom and step-dad never skimped on tipping, so I just followed suit.
I even over tip the pizza guy....but I live in the sticks, so I feel it helps with gas...and it's fuckin good shit!!

I was taught 15% is standard as well. ;) I was also taught never to tip a person who fails in their job.

ya servers are jerks and we make a shit ton, if we dont we suck so dont feel bad not tipping

lets say this at a 10 dollar avg plate asian restaurant that i worked at their were 52 tables 170 items on menu and i made more when serving then hosting but when i hosted we got to keep are own tips as well as tip outs form staff and me as a host would make 100$ plus every nite easy and a double fuck, i could work 26 hrs a week and walk away with 400-500$with tips on good weekends

and i wasnt very good the best servers make the most i would say i was a 7 out of ten as a server

and they are always fucking everything up too
