I have 'read' that a female can remain in the veg state for a very long time allowing the user to take as many clones as he/she needs or wants hence the word "Mother", is this incorrect?

Marijuana gets preflowers. Between the 4th and 6th week of vegging they show. I knew I had 6 females 4 weeks before I switched the lights.

i wouldnt dought that but i dont think that method is 100% becasue u never see a male plant preflower sacs or if the plant is mermied u wont know till u start flowering the best he can do is to cut a clone and flower it as said before or flower the mother and reveg if am wrong let me know

your idea is right OP but you have to just find out and confirm sex before you can label it the "mother"

me thinks it a girl me thinks me saw pre flower pistils

Not from your comment, from a book. I do know enough to know that a plant can stay in the 'veg' state a lot longer than two months, people have plants that are over a year old easy and are like trees and of course not been in the bud phase.

you cant tell till after you start flowering 12/12.....

I've had females poke out their hairs in week 6 or so. However it's not a 100% depended on method, because all strains are different & all growing environments are different. The best and most assured way is to clone and place into 12/12. A "mother" plant is one known female, that you designate for cloning purposes only. Like I said you have to know that the plant you are planning to use is a female. The plant won't be as strong as it could be, if you switched it to 12/12 and then revegged back to a mother plant. This is why you take a cutting, and get a loop to see clearly...
