Is it normal for buds to lose smell when harvest and smell like hay?

The two big reasons why this happens is prematurely harvesting your bud and improper drying. Let your bud fully ripen (don't harvest based on trichome color only) and slow dry like Buddernugs mentioned and you'll end up with incredible smoke. Imo, the slow dry is more important than the cure, but it's important to get your buds into jars while they are still at around 60% rh.

U usually chop indica s at 20-25% amber, don’t look for anything other than that……sativas I chop at 5-10% amber and make sure the rest are cloudy

For starters. Like I always say. Genetics. That’s going to be number 1 factor of flavor, smell and potency cap.
2 harvest when fully mature for the appropriate terpenes to fully develop. The oils are going to give you that stitch when ripe.
3. Take your time drying. Don’t rush it. And keep nice and cool. Terpenes will disappear just as fast as you dry. So the longer the better At the right temp. If you have trouble with a constant 65f. Do your best.

as far as curing. That’s a personal art and preface. To each his own. I jar when dry.

Dow do u keep your temps and humidity in week 4-chop?
Personally I keep my temps around 80-90. Depends on outside temperature. Humidity. I’m terrible. I can’t keep humidity where I live very well. So I’m running less than 30% at any givin time.
