I’ve never done the paper bag method. Are you suggesting hanging to dry for a few days and then just toss my buds in a paper bag after trimming before going into a jar? Do I need to open the paper bag daily as well or just leave it sealed.

I’ve never had this issue before. Kind of devastated. Like I said my very first harvest I dried for 8 days. The trim job I did was shit but the buds were nice and fluffy and dry. Was trying to achieve the same thing this time.

you need to dry at least for 1 week buddy. you want to try and go for 2 or 3 weeks to be honest. the stems on the buds will snap at that point and then you can store it in jars and just burp it every 12 hours :)

I hang dry whole plants or branches with only the large fan leaves removed for at least 7+ days(10-14 is common) until the stems snap and the buds are slightly crispy on just the outside edge but still soft inside.

Then I buck the buds off the stems into paper bags. I’ll fill the bags about half full and roll the top down leaving enough space to shake the buds around a little. The buds stay in the paper bags for another 7ish days usually, which allows the internal moisture to equalize and the buds to finish the drying process and begin curing. While in the bag I shake it around and open it up to check on them once a day.

Once the buds are perfectly dry so I can smoke a nice bowl or joint with it burning correctly it gets a final trim and goes in jars for storage. If done correctly you won’t really need to burp the jars or fuck around but it doesn’t hurt to check on them to make sure ;). Usually that means I go get some to smoke.

Yeah when I checked on my plants the outside felt a tad crispy so I got worried and tossed them in jars way too early. I forgot about the inside moisture seeping outward. Guess that’s exactly how I got the rot. The inside was just way too wet. My normal practice is hang in my basement grow tent for 7-10 days. Why I didn’t this time. I don’t know.

I’ve found the paper bags helps eliminate that scary point.

I’m tossing it. Not going to bother smoking it. May make topical cream with it. It was about 2-3Oz I won’t risk the issues smoking it. I have lung issues already. I know I should have waited longer to jar them. But I didn’t want them to be bone dry that they turned to dust. I wanted some nice dense fluffy nugs. Last batch I did was over dried and didn’t do well as in it just turned to dust really fine. My first ever harvest I dried in my grow tent and went to Boston for 8 days. Came home. Trimmed it. And that harvest is still doing well in my jars and is amazing.

How do I avoid this next time? But I don’t want bone dry weed. Do I wait till the stems snap but not break to jar em?
yes wait until the stems are snapping. Keep a 62% Boveda pack in every jar. It will keep the perfect humidity and you can store your shit basically forever.

They come in tons of different sizes.

IF he does an alcohol extraction. Pretty sure pure alcohol will kill any mold.
If the mold strain contains aflotoxins there is no way to remove them. Powdery mildew and botrytis don't have aflotoxins but you have to take extra steps to filter out the filaments and spores.

Regardless if he did alcohol extraction and then mixed that with vegetable oil and cooked with it, it would be safe.

Animals evolved noses for a reason. The nose knows. Pics won't load on my shitter phone (Bluetooth connection) but if it smells like rotten peanut shells and cold case evidence toss it.

I doubt theres anything growing on that shit that would cause you any sort of issue if you ate it.
“Doubt” and “know” are two different things.

As a standing rule it’s not advised to smoke OR EAT moldy items. Many types of mold are known to be dangerous even to eat. Unless you are a legitimate professional with real knowledge from studies you want to share, you should not be making such suggestions.

So what? Its poison. That's how this game works, live and learn. Toss it into the compost bin, happens to us all.
