Is this fan compatable with my carbon filter?

I bought a fan/filter combo today from the hydro store. The guy sold me a can 33 filter and a 6" 420cfm typhoon inline fan. I explained my concerns that the fan was too powerful for the filter but he insisted that I was wrong and to just turn the fan speed down to half or 2/3 speed. Does anyone have any input on the subject? Thanks a lot people, my mind wont rest.

I thnk the can 33's are usually paired with fans between 150 and 270 CFM. I don't see why your filter wouldn't eliminate the smell.. it would pull faster through the carbon but would also be recirculating the air through it 2 times as fast. The only issue I could see would be if you were doing one pass on this filter/fan combo and then exhausting to outside/wherever.. but thats pure speculation. I think it would definitely work fine if it were just recirculating and filtering the air within your grow area, not exhausting it outside of it.

Yeah if the speed of the fan is turned down to 1/2 or about 60% power you should be just fine.

Definitely slow it down. You need contact time to eliminate odors. Match the fan speed to the manuf. specs on the filter. Specs should be pretty easy to find.
