As stated in the title, this is my first run with the "Ez8" from Medic Grow. I've never worked with a light so powerful, so learning everywhere! @MedicGrow held a giveaway here on rollitup.org and I happen to have been the lucky one.
Lucky dog! I'm very interested to know how it performs. Im following this one.

The #Ez8 arrived last night, and after staring in awe of it I finally got to work. Assembly couldn't have been much easier, hook the hangers, snap on the light bars, plug in the electrical cord, done. The plug is set up for European use but there was a us plug adapter with it. Runs 100v-277v so 120 or 240 circuit, she runs.

Obviously I'm going to have to start planning a bit better. I've really only had the room to run 2-3 nice plants in one tent and only one in the other. Prime real estate just doubled in space. The strength of my best light was 40% of the #Ez8. I've got new babies that could go under the Ez8 but I'm worried about frying them. I'm thinking lowest setting(40%) and putting the light around 4' away to start.

For photo girls I've got a Rainbow kush, Northern Lights, and pineapple Express all about ready for veg and I've got 3 Caramelicious auto s1 that are still on their first node. I'm thinking the auto girls in the 3x4/400w and the photo girls in the 4x4/1000w. I've got other strains but I have to see who pops up.

I'm going to have to look. And I'll get some shots up close after the test I'm running now.

Ok, cooling issue. With the light about 5.5 ft up it is heating the floor to 95°f and 100°above the light. So i need to find a way to cool it down.

How much light is to much? The 400w setting on the Ez8 is much more intense than the 400w(max) on my other light. I'm actually going to start at 48" from the soil (it'll be about 42" from the to of the plants) and start them at the 40%(400w) mark.

Without co2 supplementation, a good range is 600 to 800 ppfd. Beyond 800ppfd there is greatly diminishing returns on more light intensity.

I use the free lux light meter app on my android phone
Install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.doggoapps.luxlight

It uses the light sensor on your phone, the same one that auto adjusts screen brightness or makes the camera flash when you use the auto flash setting.

If you use a lux to ppfd converter like this one

You will see that a range of 38000lux to 49000lux on a 3500k 80cri LED puts you in the 600ppfd to 800ppfd range.

Of course, this is not as good as having a proper par meter, but it's free. I find it very useful.

The output values on the app depend on the phones hardware, and how it interprets the signals from the sensors. I first baseline it under a known good light, so I know what range is good. Mine seems to measure acceptably correct lux values on my phone.

As far as spectrum and Nm range, this is etched into the back
If you look at the different options of lights on the converter tool I linked above, you'll see that the shape of the spectrum curve must fall somewhere in the range of 3500k or 4000k.

Measuring with my phone, my plants like flower between 40000lux and 45000lux. If I get up to 50000lux, I can tell they're getting some stress. I do early veg at 20000lux to 25000lux. Full veg at 25000lux to 35000lux. When I transition to flower i increase the intensity and/or lower the light until I get to the 40k to 45k range.

My paranoia has kept me from really getting going with this #Ez8. The room it's in is on a standard 20A breaker, at full power the lights pull 8.7A exhaust fan is 1.1A, 600w if other lights that draw probably another 6A between them the other 2 exhaust fans we'll say another 2A so I'm getting REALLY close top max load capability, and I'm concerned about my wiring. Where my RIU electricians?

Why the need for the 600w of other lighting?

Other tents. I've got a 400w Sczhlux(I think) in a3x4 and 2 Mars hydro 100w boards in a 32"x32". Once the girls in the little one are done, I'll be taking that tent down and packing it up as a gift for my dude that always shows up to help anywhere with anything. Sure he gets to smoke some nice kind buds that he can't get at the dispo, but he's always bringing something so he's not hanging just for the herb. I'm also reducing down to just one or two DWC sites. Smaller air pump. DWC gave me my first success so I'm having a hard time leaving it completely.

i recently bought 2 of the EZ8s to replace 700 watts of DIY LEDs in what was my veg room. even with dimming the EZ*s down to the lowest setting i was getting nute deficiencys in some of my faster growing strains. i dont have a lux meter but the difference in light intensity between the two is substantial. i increased my fertigation ppms and frequency and bumped up to the second from lowest dimming setting and the plants are loving it now. i also converted the old veg room to a bloom room and run it on a flip cycle to my other bloom room and moved the veg/mothers to a new location. in the original bloom room i have 2 1000 watt hortilux on quantum ballasts so im eager to get harvest results from both rooms and compare numbers. i run co2 at 1200 and canopy temps in the low 80s with RH about 60%. 3 gallon plastic bags with promix bx and 20% perlite added. i use emerald harvest base nutes at 100% and additives at 50% with a weekly shot of recharge. so far im super happy with my EZ8s and im sure u will be too...congrats on the win!!!make us proud
