my long time buddy who is tired of being in one spot with a wife and child as well as one on the way decides that he needs something extra or better to get him to that life that he wants instead of working at a cell phone store. he decides he wants to join the military. we both seem to be in the same position only he's employed and im hustling oz bags (once again) to college students i know. i not all for it since im sort of a pacifist and dont condone fighting leaders and governments who could care less about my id let alone my well being. my friends wife thinks i should go with him... scratch that she told me to go with him. are there any pro-leaf soldiers or vets that can give a young buck here some advice?

I joined the Army in 1969 to beat the draft. Other than getting spit on when I came home & a little PTSD, the Army was good for me. I got more positives out of it than negatives. I'm sure it's different today. My son went into the Army after high school, he had a great time...good luck....

I thought about enlisting time and time again but I'd rather not-

In all honesty you could probably do 4 years, get your education and training shit over with along with the assignments you receive and come out well off than before.

Or go in as an officer <---

That's something I've wondered for a while and always forget to look up...What is the average punishment for getting caught smoking weed in the military?

Ok, I will chime in on this one. I'll break it down like this:

1. Unit has a piss test..you go pee in a cup
2. You will find out within 2-6 weeks that you failed your piss test
3. You get read your 1st AR15 reading..most likely you will get a field grade AR15
4. You go to TDS and talk to a military lawyer ....a fuckin joke that it.
5. Then you do to CID and get patted down , interrogated, pictures taken and finger printed (like we're some type of criminal)
6. Then you go infront of the Battalion commander (COCKSUCKER) and he tries to make you feel like a POS then give you your punishment and strips you of your rank.
7. 45 days extra duty, 45 day restriction to post and 1/2 month pay forfeiture for 2 months.
8. Oh yeah I forgot, the you will get chaptered out with a General discharge(which isnt bad)

Don't ask me how I know PUAHAHAHAHHAHAH

DoubleJJ, I remember when everyone was allowed to wear the black beret. That's when the 75 went tan. My brother was pissed that they commisioned the black to everyone. He said in Ranger school they always kept you a little hungry, just to keep you mean.

I think you are going to find out that they frown on weed in the army.
I think I find you are full of shit.

I live in a state with 3 major Army bases, and I can tell you from firsthand knowledge they don't give a fuck. I know one Captain and a few E-1's...they HELP you pass that drug test. So please, shut the fuck up.

Special Forces & Rangers were the only ones wearing berets when I was in. In the infantry we had to wear a green baseball cap. Or a helmet when on patrol. They kept us hungry all the time in Vietnam, we would spend sometimes 25-30 days out in the jungle on search & destroy patrols, eating c-rations.......

I smoked a ton of weed in Vietnam, they weren't drug testing anyone. Hell people were shooting themselves in the foot to get out of Vietnam, if they though you could get out for smoking weed?!..lol!

I had wanted to mention about the buddy program......I joined with a buddy..when we got off the bus at parris island..the drill instructor asked ....who is here on the buddy program? ....wave good bye to your buddy! we were put in different platoons and never had same duty station
