Kali Mist - Seed to Stone

but I'll be back soon with a thread to review the Medic Grow Fold 8 along with the strains I'm currently growing. This grow was not perfect, my AC died on the day it hit 109 here and all of my plants were damaged, though my KM made it out with just a bad case of taco leaves and it didn't seem to slow down bud formation. My Serious Happiness had extensive leaf die off, but I'm still impressed with the yield potential of that plant. I decided to do ZERO defoliation this time, and I think it saved my plants-after the leaves died off the top portion of my plants, it exposed all the leaves towards the middle/bottom that I usually trim and now they are carrying the plant. I would get a better pic now but it's night time for the girls and this is the only one I have-this is six weeks into 12/12.
This Kali Mist is a shorty-front right-maybe due to the individual plant or possibly from mainlining her. Serious Happiness is back right-you can hardly see it, but it took extremely well to mainlining, the buds are developing nicely despite the extensive leaf damage and the buds are nice and sticky/frosty. Front/back left are Old School Genetics from Spain. I'm going to do a separate thread on them, but for now I will just say, they are my new favorite breeder. I just ordered two more strains from them and will do a proper grow diary with 4 of their strains next round-also to show people the Fold 8 in action with healthy plants all the way through.

I caught Covid the day before I flipped to 12/12, so along with the heat disaster, I really neglected these girls for 3 weeks during stretch and the Kali Mist took it like a champ. Do yours have that yummy spicy smell?
Hi Rurumo, welcome back!

Sorry to hear about covid, it's spooky how dangerous it can be. One of my high school friends caught it and was on a ventilator for weeks. He's in his sixties, others that caught it in our area had few symptoms - one guy lost his sense of taste.

Your plants are looking lush and beautiful as usual. Are you mainlining them all? I'd like to try that sometime.

I've got 4 Serious Happiness in the seedling stage, already big fat leaves.

I had some trouble with leaf damage as well, I'm not sure if the problem was heat, Fert burn or light burn. I'm going to run a defoliation test with clones from one of my Happiness plants, see if I can get a more definitive answer as to the most productive method.

I did mainline all of them but I varied the # of bud sites just to see what I like better. Fewer bud sites and bigger buds looks neat, but I got much better production from the plants with 20-30 sites last time. I had intended to put my plants in a 4x4 bed filled with Coots mix, but I got sick and barely had enough energy to fill these 3.5 gal air pots. I knew it was a bad idea but I had no other choice at the time since I was out of coco-the pots were WAAAAY too small to use an organic soil mix. I chased nutrient deficiencies for a while after flipping them, then gave up and started flushing them with Maxibloom at 1.2 ec to 30% runoff. I do that every time they thoroughly dry out and it fixed all the deficiency issues. I would like to try the 4x4' organic bed idea, but next time I'm going back to coco. I just love how you can fix a coco grow quicker and easier than a soil grow that goes wrong. Also, I wasn't prepared for the growth rate I saw with this LED during stretch. I really want to test this light out with coco and daily multi-feeds.

I'm looking forward to your defol test. I didn't do any this time because I was sick but it worked out with my crispy leaves. I usually defol about 15-20% of the bottom leaves, for ventilation and possibly to stimulate resistance/growth, but the main thing I noticed was a huge increase in humidity coming off the plants-by leaving all the leaves on. And of course, the bud sites covered by leaves are significantly less frosty. Your Kali Mist look awesome! It's going to be fun to try out the different phenos. I'm also really excited to try the Serious Happiness because Warlock and AK 47 were the first two strains I ever ordered from Amsterdam back in the 90s.

Happiness has some nice fat leaves, looks like it's going to be a pleasure to grow.

I'm on my second node, sprouting the third. I'll probably top on top of the third node.

I'm at day 57 of (77 to 91), at least three weeks left and hopefully 5 so these buds will have time to fill out.

Day 63 (week 9) of Day (77-91) (week 11 to 13)

I'm hoping to go another 4 weeks (13 weeks total) so the buds and colas fill out more, they're pretty airy as yet.

This is the short pheno, lots of leaves. This plant is so different from the other 3 that it looks like a different strain. Has anyone else gotten a really short pheno in their mix? This plant is about 8" shorter than the other 3.

My magic cola is filling out a bit, we can tell by all the white pistils that it's got quite a bit of time to go.

My Happiness seedlings, they're working on their 4th node and I'll probably let them go to the 5th or 6th node and top back to the 3rd or 4th.

Notice the plant in the rear left that's tilted? I didn't get the stem to unfold properly when I put it in it's rapid rooter, slowed down the development of the plant a bit.

.

I'll let it straighten out on it's own rather than risk breaking the stem.

The other three seedlings are almost identical, just like Bubblegum.

I only popped one Kali Mist this time and it's super short and didn't stretch nearly as much as some of the other strains in my tent right now. The last time I grew a few of them, they looked like your tall plants. Also, the Serious Happiness looks to be great producer, I think you'll be really happy with those. My Kali is on day 64 right now and the buds look just like yours, mostly white pistils. The happiness will be finished wayyy before her.

Here is my short Kali Mist Hobbes. When my ac died on the day it was 109 here, my temps were crazy for two days to the extent I left my light off until I could get a new AC-the other plants had way more extensive damage-lots of crispy dead leaves, lots of bleaching, burnt tips, etc, but this KM only got a bad case of taco leaves and foxtails. Time to prop her up a bit more.

Those are some beautiful colas Rurumo, how many colas per plant and how many plants in your tent?

4 plants, 4 different strains. You can't really tell because I left all the leaves on this time, but they are all mainlined. One of them just has 8 main colas, but the other 3 have between 20-30, Kali has about 20 I think? I'm still messing around to settle on a certain # of sites to go for each time. I won't do just 8 again though, they are too big for my liking. Big colas look good in pics but also increase the likelihood of bud rot. Since they're all different strains, it will have to be a long term project where I compare future harvest weights and # of bud sites to these-so far, I'm very fond of each of these strains and will probably grow them all again as long as the effects are good-I'd love to see what they all can do without the heat stress they went through. Here is the plant with 8 colas:

I up potted the Happiness plants from 3" cups to 6" pots. Lots of roots already.

I haven't been feeding them enough and I'm getting a little fade to yellow. I'll fix that next watering.

You can see the tightness of the nodes in this strain compared with Kali Mist.

Your's looks 2-3 weeks ahead of mine, all the buds bursting out..
Thanks Hobbes, I've been enjoying watching your plants develop too, they look awesome as usual. My Serious Happiness was the worst affected by the heat, so I have no idea what the yield would look like in a healthy grow, but I'll show you a pic anyway since you're growing her now. The dead, bleached, and taco leaves makes me want to cry though lol. Really good production potential in an ideal environment.

Not yet on the list of many tho. Next up is some bubblegum from serious n some amnesia haze
I ran Bubblegum about 20 years ago, it had the most remarkable taste - just like sugary bubblegum.

I ran 4 plants from seed and they all looked like they were clones they were so identical. I don't remember the high.

I topped the Serious Happiness above the 4th node, then pinched out the leaves from the first node.
