PG180($300) is 160 watts actual draw, Blackstar 240($280) is about 140-145 watts actual draw.

The PG260 is 180 watts actual draw....25% more actual power, with a better spectrum, better build quality, and changeable spectrum.
25%more actual power? <---and costs 1.5X more actual money... I mean, FlatTopBud had said they were "about the same price" so it just seems to me like he should be comparing a pg180 and a blackstar 240 for "about the same price"

better spectrum? <--I hope so! very interested in your results...

better build quality? <---I hope so! blackstars are cheap, and it does show... they are not horribly bad, I have had zero problems, but yeah...

changeable spectrum? <---is this useful? Do you use this?

Yeah ,they're def not around the same price... one is $120 more...

The PG180 uses better LED's, so yes the spectrum is better.
I agree, Blackstars are not horribly bad, in fact I'd say they're good, not great, but good/very good for the price.
I started using the PG during flowering, so I didn't get a chance to use the vegging spectrum....

Ok! So, the (2) 8 Ball Kush have been put to soil, they germinated very, very quickly; with nice, long tap roots in just 24h. I also put the Super Lemon haze to soil, the Tap root wasn't as long but it was popping out nevertheless!

Beef has been running all over this site telling people to get PG lights...he was talking about how great it is 3 days after he got his first light...he hadn't even flowered with the damn light yet...in other words...he's full of shit lol

I've grown with Blackstar, and the Pro-Grow is brighter and has better LED's because I've put them under a light meter.

So... fuck you?

I bet the 2011 Spectras pass the "light meter" test too...then you actually try to flower with them and toast your plants...no one gives a shit about your light meter testing...show results...oh that's right you don't have any results...youre just talking out your ass

And don't try to pass your first grow off as a PG grow...considering you were 6 weeks into flower when you got the light...this kid clearly has an agenda here...lol

I'm not? I was perfectly clear about when/how/why the lights were changed; I never claimed to have a complete PG grow under my belt. You're putting words in my mouth.

No one cares what you think, the light meter testing only shows that the PG put out more lumens, which makes sense considering it's about 50 watts more powerful.

The immediate explosion of growth that was accompanied with the setup of the PG180 speaks volumes to me, and if you're burning plants with a spectra you're a fucking idiot that doesn't know how to grow. Where's all your grows, poseur?

Now, stop trolling my journal, fuckwad.

I own two kinds of LED's with a third on the way; out of the two that I own the PG is a better light. Hands down.

It's brighter, built better, it uses actual CREE LED's, has a changeable spectrum, and is only slightly more expensive. There are a ton of PG grows on RIU, maybe you should check them out, little poseur boy.

So you say the PG is better out of both lights...now here's my question. I am a CFL guy currently and want to go big when it comes to flower time and love the technology behind the LED lights so I've found a few to compare.

Ever heard of this LED light from HTG supply
7 bands - 240w - $265
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-7-Band-240w-LED-Grow-Light.asp

I don't believe it has the option to switch from veg to flower but usually they have good quality lights (love my tektwo)

---keep posting pics of your grow with the PG, results are so much more easier to believe than reviews on these sites.

The 3 I am comparing is the Blackstar, the PG, the HTG light

The PG looks like it has more white light in it, which would result in more lumens since yellow/green light count for more lumens than red/blue light does. I'm trying to get some more information on the model (Pro Grow). When I do, I will post it here if you like.

What is the other make of LED that you're getting? I have Blackstar and Magnum and am considering trying out the Pro Grow.

Thanks for posting your grow!

I was just wondering last night about the HTG LEDs. Never seen anyone that has one. I'd love to see how it works for you if you get one!

Hands down, PG lights are better. I've seen a few people use HTG LEDs and I own a Blackstar. They'll work ok as veg lights if you don't have many plants and keep the lights fairly close (8"-10") from the plants... but they will disappoint you in flower. Very airy buds. Larf city. I own a couple of PGs and they work great if you pick the right light for the right space. Got a few Pandora's Box flowering under a PG 180. They look and smell awesome.

I would also add any LED grows you should plan to train either SCROG or some kind of training to assist with light penetration. Any shaded buds really don't come out well. If you used the HTG / Blackstar lights over 1-2 heavily scrog'd plants I would think you could pull some decent buds, but I haven't put that much effort into testing those lights.

so you haven't even heard about the 2011 Spectra burning plants yet you call me a poser...hilarious noob is hilarious

Ok so maybe you guys can help me, I am growing 4 plants and the max I will ever grow will be 4-6 because of amount of space (closet grow). Would a pro-180 be sufficient and produce nice buds ? what is the equivlant in terms of hps? I've read that some of these Leds are comparable to 400watt and 600watt hps lights.

here is another HTG light 120 watt (2 watt led's) Star ship120
http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-120-Watt-Tri-Band-LED-Grow-Light.asp#

to be honest though from reviews I might just go with the progrow ....I want some awesome results

You think it could do 3 plants, Beef? Seems a bit much. I would think 2 at most, no?

How big is the closet? My bet is you should get at least two 180s for the space.

I'm going to try it with 3... to be honest, I'm not sure if it'll do the trick or not, but I can, and will, gladly let you folks know how it goes for me, so you can either do what I did, or not make the same mistake! :D

are these Led lights not very powerful? I thought for sure I'd have no problems with 4 plants. So then can these really compare to an HPS then? I was planning on doing LED's and CFL's. If you think I am better off with a 250 watt HPS I'll go that way, but I really don't want all that extra heat. I think I am going to goto HTG in my area on Monday and see their LED lights in action (if possible). I grew some excellent stuff under my t5 Tektwo but I wasnt big on the fluffyness.

i could fit 2 progrows but cant afford 2...if these can only do 2 plants at a time than thats dissapointing.

4 smaller plants, or a scrog would probably work...

LED footprints, and HPS footprints are very different because LED's are directional lighting...

I'm going to be doing 6 plants with a PG180 and a BS180... I'm not concerned.
