There is a guy who takes pictures of used batteries and trash. He then puts as many as the world consumes in a sertan amount of time, in 1 picture. Looks pretty bad when you see like nine million batteries a day, or something like that.

Thanx for that post. One thing we almost never mention is the other new thing started in the 50's. Credit cards. The fuel of the consumer society. Probably doesn't fit here, Annie's mention of the Bush shopping speech reminded me of the rant I made that day. That was when I realized we had made a grave error. We are going to war which we know will cost billions, deficit spending and all we need to do is shop?? The interest on credit, Federal and personal, is killing us, we need to save, stop spending, not go shopping to prove we are 'patriots??'.
It was a widely accepted fact that Sear's made more money off the credit cards than they made from the sale of merchandise. To break this lender/power/ right idea we have to be able to view it logically.
And the way it is perpetrated is so evassive most of us don't even realize how it happens. HUH?
Ok. Everyone is familiar with the 'Crisis in the Sub-Prime Market'. Why is it a 'crisis' to me if your house isn't building you any equity so you can't buy any thing else. If you can't buy the law of supply and demand says the price I pay will go down. You and the lender that made all f the money off the interest rate and fees, gambled, you rolled the dice and lost. Our government will tell us we have to bail you out, and that is pure bullshit. The only way this type of profitering will be stopped is if we, 'the people' begin to understand we can not be expected to pay for the business mans mistake when he made the loan. If he has to go through the hassel of foreclousure and stand a loss, he might make better decisions next time and the price I have to pay for a house will go down. Yet the politicians are falling all over themselves to help out these poor people that were duped and we pay the lender/power/right 'their profit' for fueling our economy. Their rent. First steal the money and then lend it back to us, so we can fit into this cycle, this mad 'consumer-ism', credit world.
And if we start to figure it all out we will see why home ownership may not be such a brilliant idea. We will stop spending more than we make to create this 'artificial value' this 'American Idol' status. Wall Street rebounded with the news of help from the Government?? wonder where the government is going to get all this money?? Watch your wallet. VV
