Light Buzz, Normal?

If you can hear a buzzing sound from the socket and bulb area in the reflector, is that normal?

I would assume a buzz in the ballast is normal, but wasn't expecting to get noise out of the bulb and socket.

Currently there is a MH bulb in the reflector.

you sure its from their? and not bouncing noise from the ballast? never heard of this, i run 400 halide no noise in the cab

has it always done this? or just started? usually (hydro guy said) when the bulb is about to "quit" it will buzz

he said to try and re screw everything in to make sure its tight.....said there really is nothing to be concerned of....worst case buy a bulb

Brand new, definitely a buzz coming from the socket/bulb area.

It is from HTG.. I have heard they have some problems with bulbs.

mine buzzed for the first few weeks new out the box.
I dont think i notice it now.
maybe it still does. havent had any problems yet.

the consensus is that NO i dont think its supposed to do this, BUT i dont think you have a choice unless you can return it for a different bulb? if it ignites i would just run it till it fails.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
I have run many ballast over the last 12-15 years and a buzz on an MH bulb run from a magnetic ballast is normal. I didnt say all do it but is quite normal. On a digital ballast its les likely but an old style magnetic ballast yeah its a normal thing

I was told from HTG that the digital ballast run at a higher HZ than the magnetic ballast, and the bulb shouldnt be buzzing. HTG said that I have a defective ballast are will send a replacement, after they recieve confirmation it is in the mail. I told them to charge me and then credit me when they get the bad one..We'll see what they do.

I hope the MH bulb isnt bad after using it in this ballast. Is it normal to have a little shards of glass in the lamp after using it?

If it is a digital then no real buzz should be heard unless right up on the bulb you may hear the filiment slightly hum but it would be almost silent. Now the magnetic kind you can almost always hear.Id send the bulb back too since should be no glass inside the bulb
