LIGHTING: air cooled vs not

So when do you NEED aircool reflectors..how greatly does this reduce heat? Will not having it compromise ur crop by making it impossible to control heat?

what kind of trouble...and what about the air comming out of the ducts wont that carry smell out..do u attach a filter to it?
 
Air cooled lighting is not where you get the smell. The light is in a sealed tube with an intake fan and an exhaust in which that air never touches the plants, thus no odor. Air cooled lights allow you to work in a smaller area and keep the lights closer to the plant matter slowing stretch. You never NEED it, but it's very nice to have if your budget allows.

Air cool your lighting. Put a glass plate over the base of the reflector hood, draw your air from a clean non-grow room and expel it out of the grow room and you don't have to filter the air going through your lights.

I agree that air-cooled is the way to go. You can draw air through your room like has been mentioned in this post without it exchanging air in the area itself. Another option (one that I use) is to have a carbon filter mounted near the top of your area (heat rises) and then a fan pushing through the lighting hoods (no need to pull that hot air over your fan and reduce it's life) and exhausting to outside of the tent. I maintained a negative pressure in my area with an intake about 1/3 the cfm of the exhaust/filter fan. The smell was only noticeable when I opened the area.

So not true. There are 100's of ways to run an air coold hood, intake and exahust to outside room is just one of them.

Carbon Scrubber - hood - fan - outside, is another way as well.

depending on the size of your grow room. I have no heat problems running mine without air cooled, and I get my light right above the ladies.

I hate to disagree but the proper way is to draw air across your light otherwise there WILL be heat escaping from the light into your room.

Suck don't blow.

Space isnt a real issues right now I have hundreds of square feet to work with and I''ll be circulating the air in the room in the usual way. I didnt know if that would be enough. How many lights do you have ?
