Looking for good practical guides

Does or is there a practical guide for growing start to finish? I'm in my first grow and I've read a lot but still find information lacking. For instance how do you know when to switch from veg to flower? Do you just kind of guess based on how much room you have? A friend gave me four babies about 1 foot tall each, he says take them home and top and transplant them. I haven't heard from him since. I took them home and transplanted but was afraid to to them right away because I felt they needed to adjust to a new soil and whatever nutrients were in them. I transplanted two in Fox Farm Ocean Forest and two in Detroit Nutrient Water only soil. My friend also said only water on Monday nd Wednesday. So I watered with 20oz after the transplant on Friday night and by Monday they al looked like they were wilted. I quickly added water only to all four plants 40oz each and they all looked healthy the next day. Then a the week progressed the Detroit Nutrient plants started to show yellowing on the edges of the leaves which then turned to brown spots on some leaves. I started 40oz every other day and 20oz in between which keeps my soil moist on all plants. By the way the fox farm planted plants appear to be fine, also all of the plants have grown at the same rate except one. Newbie mistake 101 "secure your fan" mine fell and cracked the main stalk. No problem I had a backup plan I bought Clonex to try and clone any of the plants incase something went downhill. so I grabbed to two 6+ inch pieces of chopped tops and applied the clonex and watched them slowly wilt and start to die. so then I cut the bottom off and put them in a 20oz bottled water with nothing added and they seam to be living some 4 days later. So now I have three 18 inch tall plants what do I do next? let them grow half way up to the lights and then switch to flower? were can I read up on the realities of growing? Germinating? I bought 12 packs of different Burpee seeds to experiment with and here's what I got: Seeding pellets that expand when you add water= 4 out of nine germinated after 4 weeks. Plastic bag and paper towel = 2 seeds germinated and look like pip squeaks after 5 weeks. Burpee smart self water ultimate growing system = So far 24 of 36 sprouts in under 4 days, but they are under a 20 watt grow light. Don't experiment with seeds that cost $40+ for 3 seeds and higher, figure out what your doing first with regular $1.99 seeds first. Speaking of seeds start by growing plants that are fragrant like Rosemary, Lemon Chives, and Lavender. They will help control marijuana odors in other parts of your house so visiting friends and neighbors don't don't get a whiff. Growing mediums, I kind of like DWC or Kratsky, is water temp an issue? Nobody seams to mention it when they talk about how to build a cheap one on YouTube! I don't think I wanna do soil again. So in ending where can I look up a practical guide?
Check it out. My first approach every two years. Love this video. So basic.

Or just Google it "How to grow cannabis", returns zillions of results. In 2001 it was hard, now its easy.

EDIT: About seeds, i'm growing unknown seeds that got from some paraguayan stash. IDK what growing now, dont care, its weed. Soon i'll get new seeds, when money comes to visit me =)

Thanks, I did just that and there were so many results it made my head spin. I'm currently in soil and all is well but I seriously want to try the Kratzky method for my next grow. I think I'll go with Advanced Nutes Veg, Micro and bloom for base nutes. I don't know yet what I'll use as a supplement during blooming but for now I have something called mighty bloom. It was given as a free sample when I bought my setup.

Thanks, The best thing I did this last week and a half was to just let my lil ladies go, and they appear to be going in the right direction. That thing in hand (computer) caused more harm than good, too much information causes confusion and second guessing. The minute I said screw it everything just started working. Now I keep a grow journal and learn.... Thanks

A simple google search could’ve prevented the feelings of an ignorant noob to become hurt & inflamed.
Voilà
Thanks and thanks for answering the original question. No I'm not hurt or inflamed, I just for some reason thought I was joining a community of growers who wanted to help each other. I don't respond well when I feel like the response comes from a troll who isn't trying to help. I wouldn't come online to make worthless statements and don't respect people who do. Case in point your statement, it isn't the greatest statement but it answers the question and points a direction. I can respect that! By the way I did search google and like the rest of the internet there was information overload, just so much to take in. I was hoping someone would narrow down the choices and say try "xxx" for whatever reason.

Yeah, but after reading a little you'll understand some patterns of growing and make your own growing style. Some people are trying to reinvent the wheel, overcomplicating basic subjects, sometimes to look smarter than others.
Actually I don't even have meters. IDK pH, ec, ppm, temp or even humidity. Just watching my grass grows and it's working in the simplest organic soil you see around. My budget? 10 bucks to the electricity bill.
When I earn some money will buy that stuff, cuz it's cool to know what's happening and better to get help when needed, but not bound to.
Put the link to your diary at your signature.
Best regards!!!

I hope your journey gets better! I not an actual newbie, I grew in the 70's and 80's, I even had a Phototron that worked well for me. Marriage, kids and life got in the way so I stopped. The advanced growing tech and options make me a newbie at this point, but my head isn't totally under water. I came into this new venture figuring a total loss of my first grow, so anything is a success so far.

I totally agree with you, I think I got caught up in the thought that my first grow had to be perfect. Then I came down to earth and decided that if I make it through my first grow I'll be happy. I switched to 12/12 last week because of this thread and now I just peek in on the girls once a night. A couple of teaspoons of Meigs formula 1 &2, along with mighty bloom every watering and boom all is good. I have ph, ec and PPM meters soil moisture meter and have put them to the side for now. I will use them more on my next grow when I have a better understanding of what's going on.

This site helped me a lot.. Good luck. Reading and Google Search are your main hobby for the next couple of weeks/months. All questions I have found have been answered here before, and if you don't find the answer, just lok a little deeper.
Good luck..

Well said, I also hope you have a good journey, sorry if I seemed brusque.
