Lumen totals

Hello! All my supplies are almost gathered for my next grow. This question is about choice of light for just starting out. I ordered a 2' 4 bulb T5 HO fixture with 6500k bulbs. It states lumens per bulb is 2000, and claim that gives me 8,000 total lumens. Idk about that, do lumens add per bulb like that? I did just see an LED fixture that puts out 18,000 lumens with 5000k spectrum, for $20 more. My plan was to start with and keep one of these lights as the main, and add flowering LED side lighting later. What do you think? I'm gravitating toward the LED because of the lumens, but cfls always worked in past. Keep in mind I'm only doing auto's in a 2x2x5 tent when it finally arrives.....

RCR, to provide adequate light you're going to need 50w/ sqft of cheap led or cfl. Using better diodes like Quantum Boards reduces the power to 30w/ sqft

So your saying the better light would be the T5 H.O. 2' 4 bulb totaling 96 watts (24w/bulb), rating 8,000 lumens and 6400k spectrum is better for starting an auto strain in a 2x2x5 tent, even though the other light is a LED 170 watt usage 5000k daylight, rating 18,000 lumens?

RCR, what I was trying to point out can be easily seen with your two examples: the T5 produces 83.3 lumens/watt(8000/96) and the cheapo led produces 105.9 lumens /watt (18000/170). Current tech diodes or cobs produce over double the amount of light for the same watt compared to the T5. Less waste heat and more light(photons) to grow your plant. The fluorescents are the worst(other than an incandescent bulb) choice.

Thanks GBAUTO. I really wanted to try the led anyway. Going to add 4' side strips in the red spectrum(2700k) later as it is. This way I know at least I'm getting the coverage for the tops. The heat comparison and space saved by distance to plants allows for slightly bigger yield I hope, and won't have to run exhaust fan at high speeds. This will be the first grow where I didn't have to constantly "rig", repair, alter, get frustrated, or worry. Tent and fan will be here tomorrow.....light will be exchanged then also.
