MAINLINING OUTDOORS...

Wasn't the technique developed to account for low heights in the grow cab? For the purpose of limiting the height(size) of the plant?

That's like the opposite of conditions outside. It would be like extra work, just to grow a smaller plant.

It would be the triumph of technique over purpose!

Outdoors is perfect for mainlining, you have a very long veg period to work with. I grow in containers on a deck in the summer and training works great. If the neighbors wouldn't shit a brick I'd do it in the ground in my garden.

Yeah it can be done. And it works great for stealth as well. As far as # of tops you want to STOP topping around 2-3 weeks before they go into stretch and flower to give them veg time.

probley just top them at and be done with it

The advantage here is having a plant with minimum amount of pop corn buds and you start mainlining inside, by mainlining to 16 colas, you can control height better until its time to go outdoors.

its a hike....would u recommend just topping once or 2 times and 2nd 3rd or what ever node should I top...I have one grow under my belt..
Top over the 3rd node(make sure not to remove the 3rd node branches), remove eveything else under it. That will give you a "Y".(2 tops) You can prune off lower branches to lollipop it as it gets bigger.

3 weeks befor they go into stretch...what the hell is that
Really? If you've grown your strain before. And you have a good estimation on when its going to start stretching (that thing they do before flower) Then stop topping 2 weeks prior to that. Take my area for example. I know my indica doms are going to start stretching in early to mid august. I've had Sativas start at the last week of July. Now on Indica Doms I would do my last topping a week to 10 days before July is over. So each top will have lots of nodes before stretch. More nodes = more budsites = more buds. Kind of like when nugbuckets said on page 1 of his tutorial. After your last topping give them a week or 2 of veg then flip your lights to 12/12 after recovery. Except you don't have the luxury of flipping the suns timer. You have to follow its timeline. This comes in handy when if you also know your plants recovery times. If the bitch can take anything and keep on trucking. Or if she gets laid up for a week after the slightest snip. Take some freebies I got last year. Hawaiian Skunk/Silver Haze. When topped it wouldn't do a damn thing for a week. So I didn't mess with it much. And I wasn't going to even attemp to go from 16 to 32. Considering getting from 8 to 16 took 10+ days before they even considered recovering and kicking up growth again. Now everything else on the other hand didn't skip a beat at all. Like 3 days at the most. They all with the exception of one got 32 and the last 64 because she was still pushing even nodes. That one slowed down for a week+ but that's a LOT to recover from.
So if you know your girls can bounce back into growth quickly you can get the most out of them using this particular technique.
