Of course a government (the only legitimate dispenser of violence between the imaginary lines on a map) has WMD, such as high explosive, but only one Middle Eastern country has nukes, whose plans were stolen from the US. Although I'm a civilian, I share the military view that chemical/biological weapons are not WMD. When Bush took the Iraq war reins from Clinton and escalated it, I figured it was a safe bet that they would find both WMD and chemical/biological stuff. I didn't take Hussein's word about anything, but you are welcome to.Even saddam admitted before they strung him up that he had every intention of RECONSTITUTING his wmd program as soon as the pressure came off. Naturally this means he HAD a wmd program to start with. the Kurds didn't just drop dead on their own....they had help. Iraq knows darn well we did them a HUGE favor. Reelecting the Iraqi president was proof enough.

Saddam gassed the Kurds (and the Shi'a who rose up after Hussein was kicked out of Kuwait who were standing around waiting for US aid like the United Irishmen of 1798 waiting for the French ships). The Turks have been trying to wipe out the Kurds for years. Both the Turks and the Kurds have tried to wipe out the Armenians.
Who are the main practitioners of female genital mutilation in Iraq? The Kurds. The practice of honor killing and honor suicide? The Kurdish Yazidi kill their daughters for fraternizing with Muslims. This was legal under Hussein, though.
The US did do the Iraqi people a favor by deposing Hussein, something the Iraqi people could have likely done on their own had he not been propped up by the US. It sucks to be a Sunni, these days but they shouldn't be surprised in light of how they treated the Shi'ite majority.
I don't see how elections in Iraq can be considered any more legitimate than anywhere else. They probably don't have any Richard Dayleys, Katherine Harrises, or ACORN's there.

Time will tell if the US occupation was as much a gift to Iran as it seems, but it does mean that the Obamatons were duped by his campaign promise to withdraw from Iraq. The US will leave Okinawa or Puerto Rico or Idaho way before Iraq, lest Iran get froggy(ier).
I have my doubts, that Saddam and Sons were driving around day and night in a torture van torturing the populace, that's what (the rehired) local cops are for. It's like blaming Geo. The troop surge/ Sunni Awakening, are short-term solutions engineered to allow Bush to declare victory (again) while in office. Funding armed Sunni groups has not worked out very well in the long term, and the extra boots on the ground that the Pentagon civilian appointees railed against is not sustainable, and whatever stability that has achieved will unravel when they leave.
Selective Antisemitism (Arabs being Semites) is all the rage these days, even if people have to quote the liberal media, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, and female circumcisers to lend credence to a given set of myths. I also don't understand how people can say "kill 'em all" out of one side of their mouth and "we liberated those wonderful folks" out of the other side?

I recently watched 'W' and was at first dismissive of it but now I am thinking it might have been on the money. I particularly liked the way the film contrasted the virtue and wisdom of the methodical approach to the 1991 gulf war versus the haphazard and contrived manner that the current Iraq occupation has been. Welfare reform was actually one of the VERY FEW accomplishments of Bill Clinton. Something he was proud of. Obama is unraveling all that and placing the debilitating crutch of welfare back in place.
