making bubble hash with 'a bucket (and a mop?)'

so, even after doing research, the bags i got don't fit very well over a 5 gallon bucket. for some reason they made the larger microns smaller diameter.it should be the other way around so they cna all fit together.

Anyway. i can get enough bags (25, 73, 120 and 160) on a single bucket.
can i just do the ice and water part in a separate bucket with the 220. then, just pour the water that filters past the 220 into the other bucket with all the bags?

or, does it just need to stay in the same bucket the whole time?

It's a filtration system. As long as you use the filters in the proper succession and do not contaminate the water with product it shouldn't be an issue. It will just be more work.

i got it all worked out. came up with 7g from the trim off 120g of purple punch bud. hash isn't the best color, greenish until the 73 and 25 microns. smells great. small shards one is a little chunky and has some volume.

do you know much about drying it?
i did press it on a 25micron screen into paper towels to get the initial moisture out.
just left sitting on plates in drawer. rh is about 45%.

people say to break it up with a screen or grater, then dry on parchment. i would like to avoid that mess if possible.

I dry mine by placing it on parchment paper, on a plate on top of my stove, every time I turn the oven on (gas oven) the heat coming up from the oven dries it. I like it a little sticky, so when I get it to the desired dryness I freeze the excess, lasts almost forever!

Freeze then microplane into parchment and dry in a cold room 60° or less with 60% rh
Sounds like you mixed too hard or didn't allow it to absorb the water before mixing. Live and learn. Contaminated hash tastes poopy.
And ~5% yeild is not very good.

The better cuts are very light gray. I did mix too hard and use enough water or too mu h ice first run. It seems to be drying just being exposed to air. Will report back. I broke it up a bit. It is becoming crumbly.

Been making hash for many moon. What you're doing isn't the way to produce good hash. Good luck.

i used to blast my stuff, but that isn't safe. that was great hash after a vac session.

Can you recommend a decent microplane for doing relatively small batches. I hate going by Amazon reviews and if you have good experience with one I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

I ran into the same problem with the bags. So, went back and watched the Frenchy Cannoli videos AGAIN, to see what I missed. And what he did was cut buckets down, and just used the top of the bucket, 1 for each bag, so I did the same, and it makes a world of difference, no more fighting to get bags over one another, and it keeps the screens from touching one another. It makes a fairly tall stack, but fits well under my washer, and makes working with each bag a breeze, no more fighting to get 5 bags to stretch over one another.
Doing it this way is also less messy, you won't have to run the 220 separately, then try to pour that bucket again into the smaller micron filters.

I use a kitchen strainer I found at Walmart, and as soon as I'm done running, push it thru the screen with a spoon onto parchment paper to dry. They make different size screen in the strainers, so tried to find one that was fairly small.
No freezing and trying to plane it down and dealing with all that stickiness as it warms up. Did a couple batches freezing and planing down, and found the strainer right after running while it was still a bit moist, much easier.

Thanks for the idea. I usually prefer dry sift as it leaves out the wet mess part of all of this but I know I'm throwing out a ton of trim I could use for bubble and drying is the area that worries me about it.

I haven't had any issues drying at all. Depending on the strain, it's usually dry between 24-36 hours, then I use a nice large bottle (cheap large vodka bottle from sams club) with boiling water and a Turkey bag, and roll it out to decarb it and break open the resin glands, then roll into "Temple balls". We just tried some Saturday that has been stashed away since last years run, and Frenchy was right, after rolling it out and sitting for a while, it gets MUCH better. Everyone that tried it Saturday, that's older like me, LOL, couldn't get enough. Some were claiming they hadn't tasted anything like it since the late 80's.
For me, the strainer works much better, a whole lot easier to work with then a frozen patty that gets sticky, and you have to throw into the freezer again to harden back up. It breaks it down into very fine particles like planing does.
On my next run, I'm going to put it into my Cannatrol for a slower more controlled dry before I roll it out.

You can always use clamps to hold bags in place if need be. Might be a little excessive but will work

I just use a sieve

thanks for all the advice. it seems it just dried on its own. i broke up the bigger chunks into smaller one. it does want to crumble a bit. nice pinkish/tannish grey color. not super nice blond stuff, but still tasty and terpy. it reminds me a kief.

not sure if i should press it in my pollen press. i dont' understand heating it to make a temple ball....it will heat some if i press it in the pollen press though.

One thing to consider when making bubble is the water source. It's best to use steam distilled water and purchase ice too as the manufacturer filters the water before freezing it.
Tap water has dissolved solids like calcium and other things that get left behind in the hash as the water evaporates out, and that can lead to a harsh smoke. This is especially true if your tap water is considered "hard"

You should do some research in hash making. I'd suggest starting with some Frenchie Cannoli tutorials. You can find them on you tube.
