I have a male that is starting to throw some haira here and there.. its loaded with balls and at the very tip has a few hairs popping.. my question has anyone ever used pollen from a male (male dominate herm)thats done this and pollenated and female what was the progney like..?
And would you use pollen from such a plant.. the breeder inside me says no to leave it alone.. but the curius george in me says try it..

I've used hermie pollen but only because I was doing a landrace seed reproduction run and wanted to preserve the genetics as is. Some have asked why I didn't take the hermie pollen out of the equation and the reason is that if I had I would have been manipulating the results and I wanted to preserve the strain as it was without selecting specific pollen.

I've also used pollen from a male that started shooting pistils around the time the pollen was dropping. I still have those seeds but have never grown any of them out.

If you're trying to make seeds for future grows and don't want that trait to potentially resurface later on you'll want to avoid using that pollen.

If seeds originate from an open pollenizer with multiple males which would be normal in nature it may not hurt at all

The hermie pollen I used came from a female that all of a sudden started developing balls but only on one branch. It was strange. I used that pollen along with pollen from a few males to pollinate a female that showed no hermie traits and never developed any. I wanted to try and recreate as close to what might happen naturally as possible. Started with 6 seeds and now have hundreds of Highland Thai in the vault. My nieces are going to get one hell of a seed collection when I go.

I dont think that's a male hermie...
The structure eh?? Its been showing balls the whole time untill now.. pollens about to drop in a couple more days.. what you thinking ? Male dominate female herm?
It hasnt presented any hairs until to day.
And there is only like two or three hairs on a couple tops.. the rest show no hairs

I dont see any pistils....when a male that size goes hermie it goes full RuPaul with no mistaken identity
There is on a couple tops. My camera sucks for macro shots so ill take the magnifying glass out and get some pics so you can see the hair..

Well...if you do find a few pistils on that big beaut...that's not a good sign. Not even scorching heat has tripped any of my 5gal bucket males before :/

Theres no doubt it has hairs.. i just got to get closer pics.. like i said its only a couple.. i was just wondering if anyone has used pollen from a male that herm'd and if so what was the frequency of this trait apearing in the offspring..

Way back when I first back crossed a strain I had female flowers show just like that. I went to the BCGA site and asked much the same question, the response from the knowledgeable ones there all agreed it was a back crossing trait and not worry about using it. They have not to this date created female herms. I do not know how long the trait remains in the male progeny it has not worried me.
