Minimum length of vegetative state (clone to flower time)

Hi Everybody !

I am new to rollitup, i thought i should register an start posting, because this seems to be one of the highest quality boards for growing.

I had varying success with hydro-grows, and seeking to get a more stable yield.

I am wondering how long one should let clones grow before switching the light to 12/12. I do not use seeds, nor am i experienced enough to cut my own clones, so i buy my clones in a shop nearby. These clone are mostly 14 days old, and are available in little (<4cm) rockwool cubes. They always look healthy and roots are crawling out of the cubes when i buy them.

Are clones which are 14 days old fit for flowering ? I have continuing problems with yellowing leaves through alot of grows, experimenting with various EC levels.

THanks for any suggestion or success-story which relates.

welcome to rollitup, the only thing i knowabout clones is you can flower from as soon as rooted but really depends if you want a decent size plant

Hello David and welcome to RIU! I would veg the clones for about 3 weeks to let the roots and plant get a bit bigger and stronger. Then flip to 12/12. You don't want the plant to get to tall but a good root system is what your looking for. IF they get a bit tall then bend them over (LST). You say your playing with EC levels but your pH is just as important. Good luck.

The correct answer to your question is: There is no minimum time, you can put them into 12/12 day one but you'll get a better plant if you let it grow a bit first.

I usually veg clones for about 2 weeks, I've noticed the first few days in veg they don't look like they are doing anything but when I lift the lids I can see that the roots are really taking off and getting established. Soon as the roots get going then they start taking off. I usually top about 10 - 12 days into veg then give them a few days to recover. Then off to flower where the growth just explodes right out of the gate.
