Monsanto cannabis yes or no? A timely question that deserves your opinion.

The question of 'GMO' or Genetically Engineered cannabis is timely and present before us with today's technology.
A poll is now posted in the politics forum seeking to formulate the 'majority opinion' and any opinions that RIU folks would have on the subject.

As this in not a 'corporate' poll it is all the more relevant in representing the 'voice of the people' especially here at RIU and whatever that voice might collectively say.
Please take a moment to at least vote in the poll on this important question.
You can view and vote in the poll here:

I completely agree, for me its something I'm 'opposed' to at this time simply because I feel like 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', but also corporations like Monsanto and others are looking to monopolize in this crop.
Best case scenario for Monsanto et al is if they can achieve passing a federal law that would keep all naturally occurring varieties (the varieties we all grow now) illegal or simply remaining as they are = scheduled 1, while getting FDA approval for GMO varieties deemed 'safe' etc... = easy way to make GMO seeds etc the only legal seeds and with the passing of the wa,co laws its a perfect time to attempt such.

They are an evil company..legally you couldn't breed their gear(they have specific genetic patents,if any show up in your gear thru tests,u get sued by a billion $ company),you couldn't say anything bad about them(they sude a customer for speaking oujt on their poor grain quality, not directly, but thru a customer of theirs who made bread)..they have no soul or compassion for humanity..might as well be feeding us the food pellets from the jetsons!

Just read this on Dutch Passion's site;

"...The first people I expect to create GM cannabis are the pharmaceutical companies, they have the cash to make it happen. They are on the crest of a wave as medical marijuana begins to enter mainstream medicine. At the moment this market has an annual value worth just tens of €millions but this market will grow exponentially, in a few years I expect the pharmaceutical market for cannabis medicines will be worth literally €billions as cannabis starts finding its way into mainstream treatment for pain relief, MS, epilepsy, sleep problems, depression, cancer treatment etc etc. GM cannabis could be created to grow into large ‘tree’ style plants that may be able to yield insane harvest quantities perhaps over several years. The mind boggles..."

I hadn't given this much thought until now.
I think we owe it to the Herb to stock plenty of seed, especially the landraces. It's not too much of a stretch of the imagination to see a time when seeds are hard to get anywhere, just because those Monsanto C&^tF*&ks seem to think they own it.
In the future we may be getting bust for copyright infringement! WTbloodyF?

All apologies if I have offended in any way, I don't think its 7 threads though, I thought 6 but I could be mistaken.
Its just that This question seems to effect us all and so because its just not being talked about much I felt it worthy of a poll and trying to get as much participation as possible.
Even with 6 or 7 threads posted its only been viewed by a tiny fraction of folks here at RIU.
Monsanto works to monopolize anything it invests in and if they run with cannabis, surely they will have they same business plan, even easier with cannabis because of it already being schedule 1.
With passage of the new wa,co laws it creates more urgent incentive for corporate interests like Monsanto to get genetically engineered varieties of cannabis legal through federal legislation and approved as 'safe' by the FDA while naturally occurring varieties remain considered 'possible health risks' and schedule 1 = illegal.
That's the best case scenario for Monsanto et al, worst case scenario for the plant and those who use it in my opinion.
Most medicinal plant practically know as well as best industrial plant that is known, if you were the Monsanto's et al what would you do?
GMO corn and soy etc are 'peanuts' in comparison to the money that could be made now with the passage of a federal law 'legalizing' cannabis in the way I have described.

Thats no joke, Monsanto has been busy filing those kind of suits on farmers of other crops for many years now.
I couldn't agree more about saving our seed/genetics.
It could be the only best way to resist the wave of corporate cannabis genetics that I believe are soon to be in the mainstream.
If you have an isolated environment like a green house to grow just for seed, one can get over a court jar per plant with full pollination.

Company's owning a plant...grrr! Reminds me of picking magic mushrooms in Chilum Castle estates one time, some muppets came racing across the fields in a landrover shouting at me "The land is closed! The land is closed! Get off my land!"
Ownership....pfa!

They can shoot, but they better shoot to kill if they come for our seeds...I feel that the right to posses our seeds should be more recognized than their right to shoot...yikes...
ps...we need folks like you alive and breathing...please stay outa that field, thank you ;)
