Grow space 2.1. Added x2 150w HPS to the mix, cleared out SOME CFLs, added went with the flat white over the mylar just to let the heat rise freely.
Say helloooooo to my YIELD! :joint:View attachment 2462577

*edit..Hey Beech, how do I move this thread to general indoor growing? I'm using a combo of CFLs and HPS now. I don't mind it being here if you find it fit...Just sort changed the game plan up because the good deal came thru
Alot of good info and ppl tht start with cfls do go to HID alot of times,so we will just leave it here.

Here is a thought just edit the title?

p.s. Turn Hps off when you start taking pics,We wont be able to see them as well with it on.

haha COME ON! Ya;ll gotta understand it lol! 2 for $125! Both practically brand new...One unopened!!!! :joint:
Haha, fair enough, I myself would definitely consider that $125 well spent, but for the foreseeable future I'll be growing with CFL's.
That said I've got my mind set on a decent cabinet with maybe 2x 70w HPS and CFL support.
Anyway, lookin' forward to next update, especially now with the new lights. Let he pron frenzy begin!

*EDIT
@Beech, can you tell me how to change my title. I've searched to no avail. If you have to change it, could you change it to, " A Pair of 150w HPS Systems & A Pale of CFLs".

@DT, there wasn't a possibility that I passed on that offer haha. I was thinking of getting just on for $90 from the local garden shop..
But yeah I figure I'll contrast the difference I see with you guys and everything ya know? Most ppl with CFLs are doing so because of the heat
I figure the new idea will be to contrast the differences that I notice now with the new lights compared to the CFLs..come that second half of flowering, I'm bringin' the CFLs back out in addition!

But SO FAR.....the temperature from running the 2 150w HPS + 8 CFLs is cooler than it was when I was running about 20 more CFLs in their place.
I think that the temps from these 150w HPS systems are very do-able in SMALL spaces.
Mine have the ballasts attached to the lighting system and I can still keep the lamp within 10" i'd say. And I'm running 2 of them with 8 CFLs.

I've always wanted to know how hard it would be able to cool each lighting system while growing in an "nonventable" or closet space. And went I say "nonventable" I mean you can't run ducting thru the walls to evacuate the excess in hot air. My grow space(closet) is big enough and I keep the door open at ALL TIMES. I've put light blocking curtains on the inside and outside of the closet door just to be safe(I walk thru a couple curtains to enter),and it's getting the job done for me stealthily enough so that I can keep the lights on and door open without broadcasting my grow.

So I'd say that it's be EASY for any CFL grower to use a 150w HPS in combination with a # of CFLs, in a confined space, without adequate ventilation.
You should be able to cool the space with an oscillating fan blowing light level..Worked for me so far.

So yeahh DT lol! Haven't sold out completely hahaha.
And in the event that you already knew this info above lol gimme a break!!! I'm trying to add to "our" research pile haha :joint:

Haha, a break is given, thanks. I can get my hands on some smaller wattage HPS from a friend, but he's only got the bulbs, no ballasts or anything.

And soo....Thanks for the title change SomeB :joint:

It should be noted to anyone cruising this thread that:

The plants were grown up to this point, entirely with CFLs. Mainly 23w CFLs.
(8 out of every 10 were 23w CFLs)

EVERYTHING from this point forward changes as I've added (2)150w HPS systems to the mix of CFLs.

Good advice man, I had to move from my country cause I wasn't able to afford living there after finishing my 18 years spent in schools. Now...I'm living in a robot-ant type of country, people don't know how to live. Working like a slave from 7:30 up to sometimes 23 pm. From 2-2 weekends I have to work...work...work...Money is good, but the bills are nasty, electricity is killing me, internet, phone etc.
And time is passing fast, my biggest fear is time and how life is passing by and due to a rotten society who is transforming people into slaves and it's de-humanizing us, living us without feelings and full of fear and brain washed by the media.
I had a huge passion for music, art in general...when to do all this things when I am spending most of my time at work? and when I have free time, I don't have the energy to do it, I just want to sleep and rest. I've noticed how I've changed and what I have become, and I don't like it, but I don't have a choice at the moment...and the moment is now, it's the present and it will transform in future and with the future, things will be forgotten...my passions, my dreams. So I'm growing a plant to feel that I am alive...and hope for a better tomorrow and hope I'll have the strength to be what I was and forgive myself for what I become.

Thought that it was IMPORTANT that I should add that after 2 days of using these 150w HPS systems, there's a NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE in growth.
The branches seems to be stretching out more, and they're def. getting taller and more bushier, FASTER. I've read that this should happen with light around the 2700k color spectrum. So, so far SO GOOD. I'm prob gonna switch to flower after this 5th week of Veg..We'll see.

"edit"-Just went in for some "auxin management". It's turning out really cool. Pretty much like a scrog without the net. I pulled all the branches w/budsites down again, and pulled the apical branch parallel to the soil it. I did this about 4 days ago and it was standing straight up again today.
When you see this Seeds man White Widow...Pfff it's crazy. Branching out in every direction, with bud sites.

Also the seedlings....At this point
-They've all been knocked over.
-Out of 6 cups I planted in, 2cups ended up sprouting 2 seedlings(1 of which I pulled up and repotted). 2cups ended up empty after the confusion of knocking them over and putting the soil and seedlings back in the cups, 1 ended up sprouting along the side of the cup(I pulled up and repotted in the middle), and 1cup was left unaltered after everything.

All of the Widow seedling are GOOD & On their ways. The two bagseed and the Critical jack have some kinks to work out, but I see it happening so I should be good!
With everything said, I'd say that seedlings can take some stress to haha. I had to pull a couple taproots up and repot them, and so far it's working. I'll update per change.
I'm still 100% EVER on seeds I've germinated...Via wet-paper towel method..
-I went a papertowel, fold it a few times so it's nice and thickened...
-Put it on a plate, pour water over it BUT NOT dowsing it, just getting it wet all the way thru...
-Open it up, pt the seed in between a fold, fold it over the seed and put it into a ziploc bag.
Blow a little air into the ziplock bag(so it's like a little bubble), and put it in your closet for a couple days.
No need to check it until about 48hr..Some will crack after 24, but the taproot won't be too long after a couple days...It shouldn't be too short either.

Learn from my mistakes haha!
:joint:

Sounding like they're loving the HPS! Hopefully you can start flowering them soon! Putting the CFLs back in during flowering is a great idea (the more light the better, right?). Excited to see the buds :blsmoke:. As always take it easy bro!

Not sure what country your from lad, but sounds to me like your describing my home sweet home.
America. The land of many things good and bad, and great and awful.
I was fortunate enough to get outta the country for about a year and a half myself and live, and work, and play football in Holland(Amersfoort if any of you are Dutch).
People who worked at McDonalds and Burgerking made enough money to support themselves comfortably. The government supports you between jobs(which in their case is a good and a bad thing as many people immigrate there take advantage of the system but yeah...
It's little simple things man, that make all the difference.
They work and accrue vacation time and paid holiday time. Part time employers give holiday Christmas gifts..
And don't even get me started on Weed being legal and it NOT being a problem...The only prob is the weed being trafficked throughtout Europe...
From within I didn't notice a problem..

But after a while I changed too...Got a little more comfortable..Not that I didn't work as hard, but for one I smoked joint after joint, day after day, but didn't grow a plant and it (was at the time) legal to grow up to 5 plants without a prob...But i spent relentlessly instead..

Well a couple years removed and back in my home state, I'm back to innovating. Creating. Working hard(at whatever I'm doing), and clearly understanding that ain't nothing gonna be easy over here...
But I noticed seriously...We're different here...
The "go getter" thing, that's American bred!
Sure we gotta work so hard to get anything accomplished, but we play hard too!
Being American I know now is really a privledge. And that ANYTHING is possible if you correctly plan it.
Dreams are meant to be realized! And the path to that realization is fueled by a passion that you manifest.

Hopefully my outcome of all this will be OUTSTANDING WEED, like I smoked the entire time abroad!
Cheers for the vibes by Perk. I appreciate ya

And I already added some back into the mix. 8-10 weeks from now give or take bro. :joint:

Just found this thread/journal browsing. Very nice setup. I'll be following. I'm on my 2nd grow using cfls running 2 flower tents w/20+ lights in each one (link below). Us cfl guys must stick together lol.

perkele, I'm 53 and just spent the last 3 years taking care of my Dad who had Alzheimers and recently passed. During the last 6 months (when his mind and quality of life were all but gone) my grow has given me a reason to stay focused and something to look forward to each day during some rather bleak times. I'm starting my life over now from scratch....it's never too late.

Thanks Sincerely420 for making us CFL growers proud. Burn One.

@StusG, thank you for taking the time to open up a little. You didn't have to....
But speaking to both you guys, I can't believe I've made it to 24. Physically I'm healthy(no sickness or anything), but emotionally i'm SCORNED. Big time.
My mom did January 18, 2007 and I'm still not ever here. Her b-day just passed(12/22/52) also. I haven't celebrated my birthday...Or a birthday since....Or really any holidays since...These are the days that I feel empty somewhat alone...Even tho I've got a beautiful girl sleeping beside me every night..As well as a roof over my head and no worries really..These are the day that posts like your StusG, make just enough difference.

Seems like our grows serve somewhat the same purpose tho, and thanks again for bringing attention to that. I am firm believe that it's NEVER TOO LATE as well.
I don't know that I'll make it to 51 and 53, but God willing I do, hopefully I can still influence ppl half my age, as you guys have done.
It's be great to smoke one with the two of you. I could only imagine the power in that convo!

You right tho..It's never too late to be who you want to be.
Cheers to life for all of us aye! Now sow that hemp seed! :leaf:
