How about buying soil never again?! Lol.
Why?! Because when you don't use chemicals on your soil, like we don't, it only gets better with time!
Just do a Google search on soil fertility if you wanna make yourself a little more familiar with what I'm thinking along the lines of!
Anyways, we're one step closer to going live and being able to growth something in this recycled soil!
All I've got to do now is water it down with an AACT to jumpstart the soils cooking process!

I've gone ahead and mixed in some new organic matter(18cups forest compost & 18cups EWCS),
some new nutritional amendments(1 cup kelp meal, 1/2 cup Tomato Tone, and 1/2 cup Hi-P Bat Guano), and some new mineral amendments(1 cup lime, 1/2 cup Azomite, 1 cup Greensand), and I inoculated the soil with 11tsp Mycos(1per gal approx).
All this I've added to the soil that I recovered from beating the rootballs of my first 3 plants to death! They finished in roughly 3 1/2 gals of soil each.

But here's the finished product! Everything all mixed up and waiting to be started!
Gonna chronicle everything later in the soil thread, but this just to let me ppl I been keeping up with about it know!

There's already a guy over in Organics whose started his own little soil re-amending project if you wanna see another way to do it!
It's quite different than what I've done, but should achieve equally impressive results.

Anywayss, some pics...

Still "hot" technically as I haven't cycled it, but this is what a finished soil mix should look like! I kept adding little by little and turning and turning until I couldn't see any remnants of anything that I added

i like the whole mixing your own soil went with ffof for my first few grows just for the rep and stability of it. plus it was winter when i got around to building a grow room. just bought a house in the fall and have started an organic compost and have 5000 red wriggle worms in the mail now to make organic worm castings. grew up on a farm so have access to 50 year old rotten cow/horse/chicken manure piles rotted down to a fine black dirt. we have mixed it in with our vegetable gardens and man does it make the weeds grow. was wondering how the smoke was from your blue widow i have a freebie i received with my lib haze seeds. also a g13 fem pinneapple express freebie.

Well damn Hits! Sounds like your in the drivers seat on the road to success given the face that you've got compost around and gonna be making castings!
I'm gonna get to making castings here in the next couple months! Gonna go ahead and get this Soil mix outta the way.
Hopefully by the time i'm ready to recycle the soil from my second crop, I'll be making my own EWCs too!

And as far as that Blue Widow goes bro, it's smokes and smells so good that I'll buy another when I make my next order on 4/20.
It WREAKED I mean absolutely WREAKED of Blueburries during flowering, and when you grind the bud up or even break a nug apart, it's so obvious that you're hold blueberry based on the smell alone!
It yielded just over 2 ounces and could have went a week longer than I let it go but it's certainly connoiseur grade bud bossman!
Not so much for the high, but the aroma that you get during flower and in the finished product. The high is def. a lazy high. It's a good "I don't have shit to do today weed haha". Taste is evident in EVERY PULL bro!

Please grow it lol! And I'll be growing PE here in the next month or so bro, so I'll def. keep yas posted in regards. :joint:
I'm down to my last 6 grams of it and have put it away for the long cure.

There are some beautiful bud shots of it a couple pages back bro
It's a MUST GROW bro. Mine was a freebie too!

Stopping by for a quick hey fellaz. The mix looks nice S420, but I would be prepared to add perlite. Its looking pretty dense now and will only get more compact when you get the castings in. No better way to approach it than trial and error though, so you'll know soon enough by doing what you do :bigjoint:

I recycled a cpl times and it worked pretty ok, it was just a lot of effort for recycling a large batch of soil. Its easier to chuck it to the lawn and start over. I still count it as recycling because, well..... You should see my lawn, it needs help LOL.

I love pics of dirt! Almost if not better than I like pics of dank, weird I know lol.

Haha wassup bossman?!

I'm the same with the pics lol. We're a couple of dirt nerds lol!
But I was thinking about adding the perlite and I thought to myself, why add more perlite for aeration, when I'm growing in airpots ya know?!
The pots dry out a lot more evenly so I feel like adding more perlite might be a bit counterproductive in this instance.

Now had I been growing in pots I'd def. add more ya know?! But we'll get a chance o see how it works in the one gallon grow bags before the pots.
I just wet her down tho, and am about to post the first of the update in regards to the reamending process and my thoughts behind what I'm doing.
I know your only looking out tho giving me the heads up bro! We're gonna work it out for sure :joint:

And it is hard work breaking the rootballs down and everything but I'd say that breaking x3 3 1/2gal rootballs down is worth about $22 labor lol.
The cost of a new bag of Ocean Forest! And I love money too much to kick out when I ain't gotta lol. I'm trying to figure out what you can do to make breaking the rootball down easier...So far the best I've got it just letting it sit outta pot for a few days before you break it up and then beat the shit out of it lol.

What's going on in the garden over that way tho boss?? And how's that AK smoking right now?!

The AK is decent!

Honestly I think I let my PH drift a bit out of range. I've had some plants turn out not so great recently. One of the AK's I just hit down was not so frosty (yielded ok though) and I have a cpl in flower currently that just aren't of satisfactory health and are not stacking weight like they should be. Remember the Killing Fields with her early yellowing? I supplemented her with nutrients and I've concluded that something has caused her to fall out of range, its the only explanation I can find for her and the others not looking well as I haven't really changed much.

My water comes out of the tap pretty high, and I have applied straight water without adjusting the PH in recent weeks due to time constraints. I know better than to do that, but I've definitely done some damage to the crops. I've made the adjustments and we'll run her course, hopefully things will be better out of there in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Well bro, I've read the the pH can tend to rise a bit towards the end of the cycle, so maybe a peat top dressing might do you some justice...
Anything you think you could be missing or off on in regards to your mix?
I do remember what happened with the KF because we were going thru what looked to be the same thing..

My second crop is holding up strong tho, so I'm convinced that my issue came with too much Molasses, but still, I've read that the pHs can creep towards the end.
I'll see if I can find the literature for you homie.
And do you still have probs with the water pH after you let it sit out for a few days and/or bubble it? :joint:

i was thinking about doing my blue widow outside hoping to bring out more of the purple color also with the PE outside. was thinking of vegging inside for about a month and put it out right about may 20th then hopefully harvest late september early october. think that is doable or take longer to finish.

If you get that f1 that takes after the Blueberry, you're gonna want it inside because it smells sooo damn good lol!
Your lass will me you keep it inside! Watch haha! But sounds like a plan to let her go outdoor too.
I need to have a round 2 against the Blue Widow for sure tho :joint:

well nothing is set in stone yet. i may reorder short day seeds so i make sure they finish.
i am growing indoor and out this summer but would def like something besides bag seed for outdoor have around 70 of those.
not that i dislike them the male i grew seemed to grow better than alot of peoples good seeds. so i think its more the farmer than the seeds.

EVERYTHING is still nice and green even tho they've all had a rough start(being knocked over and re-potted as seedlings), and have all been transplanted in the middle and late stages of flowering! I've read that roots don't grow much in flowering which is one of the reason not to transplant late. Also risking damaging the root balls blablabla....Not gonna comment why all that is irrelavant unless someone wants to go there lol. Everything's happy and was transplanted late so that's that for now!

:joint:
Bubbling or letting my water sit doesn't typically effect the PH. I usually bubble 8-10 gallons 24 hours before using it though, its well water. For now I'm PH adjusting to 6.0 so I'll wait and see what happens. One issue I have is that I usually run a combination of both hot and cold water to fill my tubs to 8 gallons. I've found that the PH of the hot water vs the cold water is significantly different. I'm just going straight cold water from now on and let it come to temp in my room. This should at least provide me a constant to work from.

I'm switching to a peat based SS shortly (LC's Mix). Subcool's mix is a bit too dense for me at this point. The coco base might be pushing the PH up as well, another reason I like the idea of peat. Either way, its all my fault due to laziness, and now I'm paying for it pretty severely. Its been hard finding time to be in there lately and watering without checking solution PH is really dumb lol. It only takes a minute or two to dial in an 8 gallon tub.

I know there's nothing missing from my mix, especially since I started using more teas. I follow Sub's recipe to the T (for base), and typically use more additives that he uses. I should easily be able to finish plants this size in regular roots soil in 8 gallon containers. Another reason I'm going to simplify my mix. If I'm going to use teas, I won't need a complicated mix. Before I was using the just add water approach which was working fine until I got lazy

Word up brother!

Well I know that the hot water has lots more sediments and other things in it then the cold whatever. And that's gotta be pretty much whever you are ya know?!
You can look at the hot water most times and see that there shit in it ya know?! I've ALWAYS used cold and let it come up to room temp.
Gotta stay diligent lol! This is what we do bro! Lol

And coir isn't as stable as compost or even peat it bro! Soiless mediums are less forgiving and you know they don't come with a buffer...So it's pretty much like hydro in having to pay attention the the pH. That's the reason I stuck with Ocean Forest instead of Happy Frog.

And IMO, your still gonna need a complicated mix if you wanna use AACT's because the AACTs prob gonna wild ranging pHs(ask Beech about it).
And as far as I've learned, I know tht the more organic matter I have in the soil(compost/ewcs), the less the pH of anything I put into it will matter.
But without the compost and EWCs, I got no buffer. Or barely on if anything...Also gonna be lacking lots of microbial action minus those two things.

But if anything, subs mix seems a little heavy....It seems like it'd be idea for an outdoor plants given all that it's made of.
The AACTs can be more nutrient rich than we thought I say, but I don't know that they're capable of sustaining a plants life...
I think they're more of an inoculate for the soil(like the mycos) and a provide a quick nutriotional boost yeah, but more then anything, the deliverance of new microbes into the soil ecosystem.
Prob even using more compost in your AACTs might help?! Just a suggestion boss.

I know you got everyhin on smash tho...Just trying to think outside of the box for ya.
Later homie :leaf:

Ps, i don't wanna see the words, "I got lazy" from you ANYMORE lol. You gotta money growing on trees and you ain't looking after it like your newborn child?!!!! lol :joint:

Appreciate ya bro! This really ain't hard haha. You jsut gotta put the work in to get the general idea lol, and then RUN WITH IT from there boss! We'll see sure that you succeed lol! Just gotta be disciplined in the things ya do! :joint:

Good suggestions thanks S420! Lazy is dumb!

When I say I don't need a complicated mix, I mean I don't need 20 different amendments like I'm doing currently. Six or eight basic amendments in conjunction with a fairly basic compost tea including micro nutrients should be plenty. I'm considering several possibilities to lighten my mix up and peat seems to be the best option for my base. The more I use peat, the more I like it compared to any and every bagged mix I've used in the past, which is probably up to about 10-12 different kinds. The thing I like about it is that its relatively inert, but loaded with inoculants. It seems like the perfect base to building a custom mix for me personally, rather than starting with a mix someone else made and adding to it.

Basically my logic tells me I don't need a "super soil" if I'm going to use tea, because a quality soil has more than enough macro and micro to run a cycle right from the bag using that method. The super soil method was more or less a just add water approach without using nutrient teas or chemical ferts, which made sense to add extra amendments that were not being supplemented in a tea.

For instance my first grow was with straight FFOF using Roots Organics Buddha Bloom (essentially a 100% organic tea mixture). The only thing I had to add to the mix was lime. The tea and soil provided everything else. I PH adjusted the tea mixture and crushed with it. I just feel like my interest in soil and organics has deviated me from simplicity. Every time I find a new additive I want to use it! lol I went from your tomato tone to all of the other epsoma tones and wanted those too! I already have everything I need in abundance, but that's how I roll lol.

I put the AK in vermifire into flower. I will share her results as she starts to bud in my thread. Later peeps!

Sincerely420

New Member
I def. feel ya bro. I use three different amendment man! And between those three you get EVERYTHING that you need and some!
1.The Tomato Tone is a concauction of goodness(like 5 different meals in it)
2.Kelp Meal as you already know has EVERYTHING in it except a high P account, but brew fungi it AACT's so it serves as an all around amendment as well.
3.The Hi-P Bat Guano and that's good for all of the P as well as lots of minerals and beneficial nematodes for the soil!

Everything else I use it just to condition the soil pretty much and not for any nutritional value.

And personally bro, given all the time I've put in learning about soil and everything, I think peat is a great start for the soil mix, but I believe that compost and ewcs would be better bro. Simply because the EWCs and compost could account for the life in the soil alone ya know?! And it's more life means a more stable pH as you've got more "fertilizer packs" in your soil, to hold the stuff you add to it

But I know what you mean about wanting to try stuff haha! Def. man. I've got money piling up ATM. I haven't bought any bud in about a month now lol.
That's $400-500 more to pockets from just that fact haha. But I just keep the discipline lol as everything working. So I'll wait till I run out, get my usual things again and pick up one or two new things ya know?!

I got gotta get up on my foliar game tho! Like some Alfalfa Mean and Comfrey and Nettle...But other than those things and compost and EWCs(until I make my worm bin), that's all I plan on ever buying again bro!

And with the super soil, it seems a bit heavy given that he puts so much in it.
The things he used can be compounded in a few products ya know?! Which I tried my best to do...
But with that said, Subs super soil shouldn't require anything to be recycled....Since it so nutrient rich from the start.
Unless your growing subcool size plants outdoor, I think that much soil food it overkill how about you??

But a few ppl on the soil thread just use plain FFOF and transplant, so I know what you mean in saying it works by itself.
I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible too lol but still be a complex as possible ya know lol?!

Cheers homie :joint:
