My Boveda Story....

As you may or may not know, there is a pretty kewl product that will help maintain your MJ at the perfect 62% RH level...
Boveda packs... I thought I'd try... Instant correct RH ?!!??

So I sent away got me a ten pack of Boveda sized small...
The small size is used to keep and regulate a one ounce or less amount.
I was thinking long term dry of one zip with a Boveda pack Vac sealed would be kept fresh in theory forever at 62%...

Anyway, curing a small amount with a RH gauge in jar...
Keeps going above 65% so I take a couple of the large nugs that seem more wet out, and put gauge back in...
Gauge again tops to 65 % RH...

up down... too wet... FUKK too dry... lets try something new...

So I put larger wetter nugs back in, and drop in a Boveda pack....
Drops to 62% RH... Stays....
Goes up to 63% drops back to 62%...

I think I am going to like these things...

Oh yea, a ten pack, enough for 10 oz... about $10.00...

So Far... I am a believer....

I have had no issues with them as of yet and have used them for a few harvests now. You still have to burp the jars now and then, but it is important to make sure you get the right size packs for the jars you are using. Once you have things stable, the jars stay consistent for months! I've had some buds in my jar since Oct. 19. 2013 and they are perfect for smoking.
Enjoy, they are absolutely amazing and I would definitely recommend them.

Okay so before I buy these, the small size is for an ounce? I was about to pull the trigger on a medium sized, 8 gram 10 pack. Also, since I have not had a harvest yet... do the pint sized jars keep about an ounce? How much bud can be kept in a quart sized jar?

I like them.

I got Size 2 1/2x 2 3/4 inches, I used one per a 24 ounce mason jar.

I over dried my first plant, dry weight was just over 6 ounces.

I spread the bud out in 8 jars and added Boveda 62 packets.

Burped once a day for two weeks.

the Great Part!

I dumped all the Bud put and re weighed and the bud was 7 ounces!

overall weight went up by almost a full ounce!

This is really good to hear. I've had my buds jarred with the packs for about three months and plan on storing some for a year or more. They are stable now so I was wondering how often do you open up your jars now? Every 2, 3 months? Thanks.

I plan on long term "seal a meal" packed MJ that is dried to proper 62-63% RH... and then a Boveda inside vac sealed with just a little air pocket...

Boveda inside a Vac Sealed 1 oz pack... I doubt anyone has tried that....
Would it work?
I'm planning on a long term test-- One year sealed:
Oz A- Sealed in a "Seal a Meal"
Oz B- Sealed in a Jar with Boveda Pack
Oz C- Sealed in a Seal a Meal pack, with Boveda inside...

I know... who keeps MJ for a year....

i got a bunch of them a few days ago and some new trimming scissors. my jars are at 66% and as soon as i get them closer to 62, i'll pop in the boveda.

i'm lazy and anything that helps me out is a good thing.

I thought about vac sealing with BP's so I called Boveda. I was told that it wasn't advisable, they've done no testing yet but intend to soon. They said there is a chance of the packs bursting. I'm still curious about doing this, if you decide to try please post your results. Thanks.

I imagine if you put a thick cardboard piece between the weed and the pack to avoid having a stem poke through should work. Also maybe a non vac sealed seal.. I mean seal the one side, then squeeze the air out and seal with the seal option, not the vac seal option. That way there is some air to move around. Just my thoughts.

I sealed a Boveda Pack inside with an Oz.... I left a small air pocket. ... I did not suck all the air out... and it was in 62-63% RH ballprk when it was sealed...
There is no way this pack will explode or do anything different than if it was sitting in a jar with an oz...

My Zip Lock sealer has a "Pause" seal button... so I paused... sucked air...paused... then sealed...
Nice little air pocket... should be fine....

Dark area... maybe around 55-60 f... IDK... I am thinking storage bin in basement...
What would be better ?
I thought this as well but I've been thinking now more at 35-40F. You almost have to have something dedicated to it. I've had well cured pot stored for 18-20 months in basement, but was not impressed with it..too much CBN? I turn whatever excess I have to ISO hash. Maybe it's time to revisit the long term storage issue. I've got mountains of research and anecdotal stuff saved, just have to wade thru it, and nothing on the subject newer than 5 years or so. Haven't searched this site at all.

Old Fart Story: used a seal a meal back in late 70's early 80's? Worked OK, had to suck the air out manually and remember storing pot for 6 months or so. Was a novel marketing idea at the time more than anything.

Well.... I have froze a bunch before, and after a 'few' months... it seemed fine...
My woman doesn't like the idea of frozen pot...
So I was thinking about a sealed tote, filled with Boveda vac sealed packs...
Or jars...
A freezer in basement?
Long term... who has kept MJ for longer than a year?

A fuckin tote son? You growing tons? Your gonna need a few extra large boveda packs for that.. What were you thinking, a 17gal/68l Rubbermaid tote? Lol I'm just imagining the harvest from that, man that would take a week or two to trim by yourself.

Naw... weekly harvest... Clones of clones...
The buds not at the top go into storage...
We only smoke my top buds...
Every bud smokes the same.... and at 62% almost seems too damp after a week with a boveda...
Every week... I have a zip or so... Extra...
So the extra is packed for long term...
My hedge against inflation... If you will....
