My First Grow

My step dad has finally agreed to let me cultivate marijuana for us to toke after a couple of months of him introducing me to the delicious herb. After going out to get an 8th, we found some a lot of seeds and considering the weed was pretty good stuff we decided we might as well grow.

I had been doing research into this for a while and found this forum and I'm real happy. I think this forum will help contribute to getting me high everyday, lulz. I have already germinated 3 seeds and have planted them in these water bottles in my custom High Humidity Dome.

The bulb is a 100 watt incandescent light bulb and is only temporary. Later today I plan on going to Home Depot to pick up some Fluorescents as I'm planning on doing this whole thing using Fluorescent lights. I'm going to start with 6x 26 watt GE Daylight 6500k CFL's for the vegetative and add on as the plants grow in size. If I get lucky, once the plants are large enough to impress my step dad, he'll put the money into an HPS Lamp, but I doubt it and will probably just have to add more CFL bulbs. Here are some pictures of my "ghetto" setup. As you can see below, I will be re-potting them in the larger pots after they have sprouted and roots have spread out a little.

^^^Lulz, this is my "Poor Man's Pipe", my step dad dropped our bong and it shattered everywhere!!! Gross bong water....

I am not sure if you can use an incandescent bulb to grow at all, those clfs should work great as soon as you get those. For like $20 i know a website the you can order like a 85-105 (true wattage) Cfl bulb that fits into any regular fixtue that can support its wattage for about $20...... but the 26 watter are ok too, get as many as you can and make sure your are using your warm whites and cool whites at the correct times... i cant remember which is for flower and which is for veg, i can find out if you need.... to me germing is kinda hard, if you throw them in the dirt and dont bury them too deep about 1/4 to 1/2 inch the plants will pop in 1-3 days depending on your seeds.... How does that pipe work, were do you suck??

Good luck and keep us posted!!

lol hav a good day,

Alright, so Daylight and Red and Orange.... I know they sell Daylight bulbs, but does Home Depot sell Red and Orange CFL's? Also, 1puff2puff, thanks but every time I order something off the computer something screwed up happens.

Also, I'm trying to remember that this is more of an experiment than a project
and all the mistakes I make with these plants I will learn for my next crop. I'm not exactly worried about these seedlings as I have 10 more seeds. I''m not sure what strain it is nor my step dad, he just gets it from his friend. I'd show you a bud, but my step dad has started to like joints, which no offense to those who love the ole joint, but I'm more of a bong person myself....

Anyways, I'll make sure to get about as many Daylight CFL's today. My only worries are the fixtures.... I'm not sure if Home Depot has the y-splitters or sets for 5-6.... but they should.

Lastly, I'm going to let the seeds sit on my window for some extra sunlight.

EDIT: I have another question, what are the orange/red light bulbs called? Do they have a specific name?

Fluorescent lights: Fluorescents are a lot more useful than incandescents. Their efficient enough, and cheaper than HID lights. Compact fluorescent tubes are popular with growers because of their good output to size ratio. Compared to standard 4' tubes, compact fluorescent bulbs are smaller, and more can fit into a given area. Fluorescents are good for small grows on a tight budget, and for novice growers, since they do not require any special sort of wiring or understanding of the necessary bulbs for a given fixture, and are very widely available.
Fluorescent lights come in many different Kelvin ratings; often the spectrums are labeled on packaging as being 'cool white' or 'warm white.' Cool white is more blue, and is good for the vegetative stages of growth, and warm white light is more orange or reddish, and is best for the flowering stage.

Thanks you guys, this was my main confusion I think. Although, I can't seem to find Warm White, just Bright White or Soft White??? Or should I just buy based on Spectrum's?

Yeah, that would be the time where I would get real impatient.

Well, surely my step dad came home with more and I think I smoked a whole gram I may have more... not sure, I'm kind of dieing here so.... yeah, but anyways you guys should all came your cool cause it's all good.

Oh yeah, I found a couple seeds, but the problem was I decided to test the shells to see if they would even grow since they were from the weed and instead of using my pointing finger to test their strength I used my thumb and I broke some.... but I still have like 6,7 or 8.... but of course there's still all the other weed we have soooo I think I'm set straight.

Well, right now I don't think I'll be able to get the lights until Monday because our car broke down today.... coincidental, I think not. For now there I'm placing that little custom dome on our deck so they can get some real sunlight and hopefully all of them will sprout by Monday.

I'll put some pictures of stuff later... lulz, I don't really have anything too exciting yet... I'm just curious as to when they will sprout and I can meet my little plants man to little ladies(hopefully).

sniper i will definetly be following this thread its been quite intersting so far
anyway as far as lighting to save on the aount of y sockets you have to buy i hight suggest getting high watt cfl a 200 wt cfl can produce 14,000 lumens and you need about 4,000 lumens per plant so if your growing 6 or seven plants two of these should do. also the warm orange spectrum lights were looking for about 1,000-3,000 kelvins is a reddish orang and is best for the flowering stage but for the best veggitive growth you want a kelvin rating of a bout 4,000-7,000 wich is more of alue spectrum and is recomended for vegative growth thanks for the thread and i hope been of some assistance good luck till the end

Thanks man. I'm only growing 3 this time, next time it will be 2 at most. Anyways, once I find out all of their sex I plan to only keep 1 or 2 females if I get that lucky.

I'm thinking 4x 26 watt or 2x 42 watt 6500k spectrum for vegging and then add 2x 42 watt 2500k spectrum for the flowering. Here's some pictures of that went on today... nothing important, I was just bored enough to upload.

^^^I put the little dome on my deck to get some real sunshine.

The two above is my home made bong that works ok, when it was brought up how horribly poor the soda pipe was and that my loved bong broke because of a clumsy night so.... yeah.

I'm going to go smoke more cuz I feel the effect going away.... or I may wait till later.

2 x 42 will produce just under 6,000 lumens wich should be enough if its a small grow room an you put alot of tin foil or mylar up but also remember when it comes to cfl's you can never have to many .
good luck
