My NEW tent *Help*

Greetings RUI'ers...

I set up a new tent downstairs with the following:

4' x 4' x 6.5' Tent
Yield Master 2 Air Cooled Hood
Galaxy Switchable Ballast ( 400/600/100w HPS/MH )
Hydrofarm 6" Inline fan 400cfm
2 Fans (1 clip on)

I have my fan pulling heat from air cooled hood and blowing out via the dryer ducting hole .. Y ducting splitter that leads outside. My downstairs still feels like a Sauna even with the heat ducting outside.

My temps vary from 75 - 85 - 90 on a bad day
( I'm not sure why I'm dealing with such high temps in the PCNW? )

Does anyone have any suggestions why I'm dealing with higher temps? ( I have plenty of air movement )

Also I should mention I'm running 1000w MH about to flip to 1000w HPS but I also have 400w and 600w HPS bulbs in my storage.

I'm also planting 5 more clones that will be vegging in place of the ones today that are ready for flowering. I'm using Fox Farms Ocean Forest Mix currently I would like to save some money if at all possible a friend told me he mixes 50/50 COCO/PERLITE/ does anyone know if this is cheaper and a better mix then store bought FFOF mix? my nutrient line I'm using is Botanicare Pureblend Pro !

Thanks in advance!

Hey buddy, I can't really help about hps but Im sure someone else will respond about this. What I can say though is that if heat is an issue for you then you should consider LED - nowadays there just as effective as hps if not better, but without all the heat issues & a lot more forgiving on your elec bill. Ebay your hps & get LED ;) Good luck

well considering i have been able to get my tent down to 75 which is ideal and anywhere from 85 to 90 on a bad day i know I dont need to caugh up 400$ for an led system.. plus my power bill is already payed for so I'm not going to switch over to LED... can anyone take the time to shed some light on my questions?

I agree!

A 300w LED is lest than 150$ if you think it about it saves on a lot of cost
you get an HPS with ballast that's around 150-200$ plus most people with heat issues will buy a cool tube so that's another 50-70$, not to mention about 60-70$ more for the vents an the fans needed to cool an HPS. That's about damn near 400$ you can buy 2-3 LED panels an have near 600-800w grow with no heat issues.

To answer your question tho, your most likely having heat issues because the HPS is running hot, it doesn't matter how much air movement you have, when the air moving is hot air!

My suggestion would be get an A/C, an put it in the room where the tent is, or use a vent to direct the A/C air to your LIGHTS

first all your ducting with heat in it needs to be in insulted ducting (this helps alot )

second increase the intake on the tent .............here is a how to make a filter box ............it will add about 210cfms make u a powered intake

now if those 2 do not help
u can redneck jerry rig (just learned this myself)

to cool it even more u can add frozen water jugs in the middle

the last choice is to get a AC atleast a 10000 btu (i have a 5000 btu it is barly holding the temp to where i want it running alomst 24/7 )

as soon as i swapped out my 1000w mh bulb to 400w mh my temps dropped to 85 high 73 lows with the light on... im thinking about switching to 600w hps when i flip to 12/12

Air cooled hood needs to be on it's OWN fan, then you need a fan just for exhaust, and a fan for your intake. Everything should be on speed controllers. I'm not sure where your 'y' splitter is coming into the picture? I'm having a hard time visualizing how your using 1 fan and a y splitter to do anything, picture would help.

comparing coco to FFOF is comparing hydro to soil. Coco/perlite will out perform soil everytime. Coco/perlite needs to be FED at least once a day until you get about 20% run-off. FFoF soil need to be fed SOMETIMES and watered on wet/dry cycles. It depends on how much time you have. You will be mixing nutes everyday or have to find a resevior to store nutrient solution in if you go the coco route, you'll also use WAY more nutrients. If your planning on treating coco like soil(watering when dry)-just stick to the soil. If you have the time(and money) to fed your plants AT LEAST once a day in flower, coco will blow soil out of the water.

blow air through the lights....sucking air puts ware on your fan..plus which side of the fan do you feel more air pressure...high air pressure pushes the hot air out quicker but to be honest
exhausting air and cooling lights are totally diff..
to be effective you still need to exhaust the hot stale air...

"top of tent"
I use two 200cfm booster fans to exhale the air out of the tent
<--- booster fan out tent booster fan out tent--->

Carbon scrubber--->inline fan sucking through ---> ducting--->then the lights--->then ducting----> then out of the tent

"bottom tent"
fresh air in...I use two 200cfm booster fans to breath fresh air into my 7x7x7 flower tent.

or add co2 like I did..it is costly but effective!
