Need a lil Qb rig design help!

Hello peoples!

Thought I'd start a thread to see if it helps get some ideas tossed my way.
I purchased 8 Qb120's and 2 Hlg 240-2100 drivers. These will go in a 4'x4'x6' tent.
I need some rig frame ideas. I'd like a 2 frame system with 4 boards per. Don't have a lux meter at the moment or I would do as advised by humple and temprarily string them up in the tent and map out a design.
What I need suggestions, help or ideas with are-
What size/dimensions should the frames be?
What layout/s would you use.
Not knowing the footprint of the boards, how should theybe spaced?
How far should they be (frames) from the wall of the tent?(I THINK I read 6")

I have some 1x1x1/8" angle aluminum. Buddy gave me 32' feet of it cut into 4' pieces.
I've built a few cob rigs, so I'm not a total noob to diy.Just the qb's I'm new to. I've perused a many of qb threads believe me. Just couldn't find anyone with 8 boards in a 4'x4' to get ideas from,or brainstorm with if you will. I know I've asked this in afew QB threads, please forgive my persistence. Figuered I'd make my own thread as I only have this weekend as free time to complete thiese builds or I'll have to shelf them for a while.

I did try a mock up of the frame with Notebook paper sized to the dimensions of the qb120's. Every configuration on a 42" frame seemed off. Too large of gaps between Qb's. I'm guessing the single frame H pattern fixture might be my best bet. 3-2-3.

Thank you for the reply @verticalgrow. That is a 3-2-3 with the center qb's on the outside edges as opposed to the inside like an H? No concerns for a dark spot in the middle or will there be enuff overlap to compensate in your opinion?
I am not trying to be difficult and question ortear down your suggestion. Just curious.

Yea should be perfect amount of light to overlap the middle.
Are u spacing the boards a few inches apart?

I haven't even finished the frame/s for them. I didn't know how far apart to space them, not knowing the footprint of them.

Thank you Vert! Last question for now.....I promise lol. Frame dimensions. What size frame? From your configuration It lt would be a single frame. Initially I planned on 2x 42"x 24-26" frames, which would leave me 6" all sides fm tent walls. Lookin at the paper mock-up I did,it left a gap big enouf to fit another board for a total of 6 in it.
I was really liking the idea of two frames for the adjustability and modularity.
At times I have different strains running in the same spot and let 'em go au natural when first running them.
Also, I should note, the space these boards are going in is currently in use, or else I would've just been in the empty tent figuering it out.
Just hung the lights, fire 'em up and built a frame around the configuration I deemed best suited for my needs. That is until I get a lux or par meter and I then I can get knee deep!

I do appreciate the feedback @verticalgrow. Thank you. I'm off to do that mock-up now. If I can get pics to post I'll do so.

*edit...after reading I didn't ask the damn question.

Three 40 x 10 inch frames = 25ft of angle approx

Dammit I keep getting a "dns error" or some shit and can't load the pics. I did the mock-up you suggested. Frame(single) came out to roughly a 36"-38"x36"x38". I did the first mock-up with the boards running long wise(< is that a word? lol) eh.. the 11" sides vertical.
After checking the notifications, I went back and turned them sideways with the 9.5" sides stacked.
40"x10"? The boards are 11"x9.5". ahhhh I see it now. Boards turned inwards makes the frame 10" tall and 3 boards together = 33" with a few " in between them.

Lol thanks @verticalgrow .. back to the mock up lab(kitchen floor).

Dammit I wish I could upload the pics. I'm sure it'll help someone like me(brain dead when it comes to design/engineering).
Maybe I should try a different browswer

image.jpeg image.jpeg Different browser seems to work. 1st mock-up boards running length-wise. Second pic is them turned inwards.
Well they uploaded bass ackwards.

View attachment 4195196 Here is the 40"x10 " mock up. It's rough I know. The outer angle aluminum represents the 4'x4' tent.
I like it. I don't know how it would ultimately shake out against the 3x2x3 pattern, but I think I like this better anyway - that empty space in the middle is just begging for one of those GrowMau5 far red pucks, or some other flower-initiation lighting.

That gap in the middle rail will be cover by overlap correct? Also,it seems a nice space to mount the drivers. Although they won't be modular unless I remote mount the drivers so I can adjust fixture heights. individually when/if need be.
I was responding when you were I think Ahh yes! A far red puck eh? Lol I was wondering what I cod put there.

I'll be back with the 3-2-3 mock up. Eh...what size frame/s would you put it/them in?

Actually is the 3-2-3 you speak of similar to the first 2 pics. or should the middle boards be a tad bit closer?

Sorry, I meant the idea of the two in the middle being closer, sort of like an H (not the best way to describe that, I know).

For the frame, I think two lengths of aluminum for each row, so 3xQB120 on two rails (left), 2xQB120s on two rails (center), and 3xQB120 on two rails (right).

As for the drivers - I keep mine in the tent, but I'm in a basement, so I need the heat. If you do keep them in with the boards, maybe attach them in that center section, but on some kind of riser, so you have space beneath them if you want to add anything to the fixture (like that far red puck).

It's coming together, bro!

Edit: you could keep the three sections completely separate so you can raise and lower them individually. More hangers, but it simplifies the build a little, and gives you adjustability in case some plants decide to go gangbusters and outgrow the others.

Thank you @Humple. Slowly but surely it is coming together with the help of the RIU Fam! I'm gonna go mock that up right quick and let my device charge.
So, the 40"x10" rails are a go in your opinion? Don't want to start a beef between the differing suggestions...lol...I want them all! Going to do the 3-2-3 mock-up with the center boards closer. Yea I'm partial to the modular approach with the 3 separate fixtures.Thank you
Bruh! Now more research to do as I look into that far red puck. Lol sheesh!
